    Pint (after first sip)

Stopped for a pint after the Scilla- Fort Charles-lower cave walk. Bar is intimate. Head into the restaurant for a burger and chicken gaujons. Great food. Great people.

A rich Seafood Gratin, but the cheese, sauce and potatoes rreally overwhelmed the seafood.

I liked the atmosphere of this place a lot! It's like a rustic old log cabin in the woods! It was warm and roomy, so much so that I think our waitress got lost at times and was nowhere to be found. The food was decent, although my seafood gratin was completely overwhelmed by the cheese and potatoes and sauce. But it was hearty comfort food on a cold winter night, so all in all, not bad.

We are very picky American foodies and this pub has now outdone my fav burger ever (World wide)! Perfectly cooked burger by the chef with great flavor and not frozen meat. The diced bacon on it inside the melted cheese was to die for, as well as the melted cheese that was on both sides of the meat-I ate my burger with no condiments so as to not ruin the flavors. If the pics don't make you drool then you DO NOT love a good burger ;-) Hubby had mussels that were fresh and plentiful! He didn't leave a bite, they offered more bread than he could eat with them for sopping up the wine sauce. The pub/restaurant is very clean, service was spot on in every way. The decor is Irish, rustic and charming. Not sure if I should ever come this way again but if so, I hope to share a meal with you guys then! Cheers to the chef and the service staff! Lily was our waitress and I'm taking her home with me

We stopped by The Spaniard for a pint and busied ourselves with the puzzle of Carlsberg coasters. Sawdust on the floor; cool ambiance.

Great place to sit outside, have a beer and discuss stuff.

This is an easy walk from the center of the craziness of Kinsale. Walk up the hill and have a beer, play some darts, sit outside and forget your cares. This is one of the best places we stopped on our Ireland trip.

What a neat pub! Talk about stepping back into yesteryear. 1690 to be exact!…read more We stopped in for our very first pint of Guinness in Ireland right after our walking tour of Kinsale. We were the first folks of the day and the bar staff were just setting up but welcomed us in anyway and gave us loads of interesting information about the pub itself and it's history. The ancient floors are truly wonky and they say 'if they ever straighten out, then you should stop drinking, you've reached your limit.' :P We learned how the 'snug' was originally used for the women to sneak in and enjoy a tipple without anyone knowing they were doing so. The 'snug' is still in place although no longer used as such. The rooms are all very small but feel cozy rather than tight and they seem as if they would be the perfect place for a group of friends to enjoy themselves either on holiday or just after work. The atmosphere was terrific when it was empty, so I can only imagine what it's like at full steam. The pub actually joins with the building on the corner and both are owned by the same folks. They do a great job of preserving the history of this fine establishment and we really appreciate them doing so - not to mention it was one fine pint of Guinness they poured.

Wanting a healthier lunch we got just one order of fish & chips this time and one of beet salad and…read moresplit them between the two of us. Both were excellent. The fish was hake. This was easily the best of the four fish&chips we've tried so far in Ireland. Outstanding actually. The batter had the most perfect crunchy texture, wasn't too thick, and it adhered well. The fish was just-off-the-boat fresh, flaky and cooked just right. The portion was enormous - two fillets, one large and one medium, with a relatively small portion of good fries. The tartar sauce was tangy with tiny chopped pickles. Vinegar was available at the table. This was served with a small salad of lettuces, spinach, scallions, and onions. Price was surprisingly low given the portion, right around average for fish&chips in our experience so far. We ordered the entree salad with the locally made goat cheese add-on for a small extra charge. More excellent leafy greens, beets in small cubes, pomegranate seeds, picked onions, candied nuts and plenty of chèvre in large pieces. It was pre-dressed with vinaigrette and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. Very good, a far better choice for us than two orders of fried fish. Also on the menu were 3 other kinds of fish (monkfish, black sole, and plaice), each prepared differently. Shrimp scampi, seafood au gratin, and steamed mussels rounded out the seafood section. Oysters are on the menu but they weren't available that day. Other than seafood there were also burgers (beef and veggie), chicken wings, soup of the day, chowder, a steak, lasagna, pan roasted duck breast, cannelloni, liver paté, spring roll, and more. So a very extensive menu here, and not just the same things found everywhere. Sadly we didn't have room to try their desserts, which included sticky toffee pudding, banoffi pie, flourless chocolate cake, and meringue pie with raspberries and ice cream. They were hard to pass up.

I liked my lasagna and merlot. My husband thought the burger portion was bigger than most…read morerestaurants here. Funnily enough - we accidentally spilled a drink on a couple and paid for their drink and then in return, after they found out it was our honeymoon, the couple covered our meal!
