Small, fun fact about me, I'm organized to the point of OCD. When there's a mess, you can bet I'm internally panicking. Why am I writing a review for Kat then if I "got this?" I don't need a professional organizer. Or at least, that's what I told myself over a three-year period as I cleaned and organized our garage again and again only to see it fill back up with the same clutter and slowly become unusable for myself and my family. Because I love organizing and decorating, and I'm pretty good at it. So why hire someone for something I could do myself? Then a new remote work gig made it necessary to turn our garage into a double office by day and a kid play space by night and on the weekends. If I had 10 stars to give, I would. A dear friend of mine referred me to Kat last August. I can honestly say, this is the BEST referral I have ever gotten from a friend. Kat is a Gold Mine. I contacted her and she contacted me within the 24 hr. period, (per what it says on her voice mail and I believe her website as well). Her website is very straight forward with various options current clients and new clients can purchase, which are very well explained and beyond reasonably priced. So let me outline my process a little bit: When she contacted me she asked me questions about what my needs were and what my goals were in wanting to get organized. I was in a panic because I had to move away for at least 6 months to help a terminally ill parent. Upon my return, my house was a disaster! My husband tried, but really missed the mark on maintaining it, and it was just something that I no longer had the capacity to deal with while grieving the loss of my dad. Connecting with Kat was the BEST decision. When she came over, we sat and talked. She didn't rush me into the process, as she knew I was a bit fragile with things going on in my life. But she had us methodically tackle room by room, pile by pile. She keeps you on point. You do the work together, which is important. My mother passed away, and I was left with the task of clearing out her home. I am thankful for the understanding the stuff does not define us, it is us who place value in it. This review has been a long time coming. I can't tell you how wonderful Kat is, as a person and a professional organizer. I've requested her help at least 3 separate times. She helped me organize my garage so I could park my car in there - and I still can! She helped me organize my linen closet to where I smile every time I see it. I recently had Kat in my home to help with kitchen organization. I don't have a huge kitchen but it is of decent size for a townhouse kitchen. My husband and I are avid cooks and bakers so we have a lot of stuff in the kitchen: mixers, blender, food processor. You name the small appliance and we have it! Plus dishes, sheet pans, stock pots...the list could go on for days. After living in our home for the last five years the volume of stuff had reached maximum capacity and it was no longer enjoyable to have all the things we wanted in our kitchen. The best and sometimes the worst part of home organization with The Simplified Life is that Kat makes you do the work. It would be so easy if she came in and just took over but that isn't the way it happens. I've worked with several organizers who did nice work, but I often felt like they were doing an excellent job tidying up but didn't create a sustainable approach to why things got cluttered to begin with.
