The Shahzaad is our favourite Indian restaurant in the city of Preston. Located centrally on…read moreFriargate, close to some of the city's best pubs, the restaurant offers top quality food with some interesting options available. It should be pointed out that The Shahzaad offers more of a casual dining experience than fine dining and the decor and ambience of the restaurant reflects this. However the restaurant is very clean, comfortable and always warm during the winter months-perhaps too warm some times so avoid sitting too close to the radiators if you get warm easily. The staff are very friendly and the owner is usually on hand to look after customers and talk them through the option available on the menu. The restaurant offers Becks Vier on draught as well as cider and bottled lager in addition to a full range of spirits and wines. The toilet facilities are on the first floor and you have to navigate very steep stairs so be careful especially if you have had a few beers! After many visits there has only been one occasion where the order was taken incorrectly for one of our group that we were dining with but a replacement meal was offered-other than on this occasion the service has always been quick and efficient with an appropriate amount of time allowed between courses. Sometimes when visiting late on a Friday/Saturday night some the restaurant can attract guests and the management always try to sit people appropriately and deal with any customers that may get too loud but I hope that the management continue to keep the restaurant at a standard that doesn't put off folk from avoiding dining there later in the evenings! As well as welcoming new customers regular guests are well looked after with a basket of poppadoms and an amazing pickle tray usually whisked to the table before you can sit down! Of particular interest is the unusual garlic/chilli sauce which is home made daily but be warned-while very tasty it is extremely hot! A range of starters are available if you are hungry and the main meals are of an excellent standard. The Pele Pele curry is particularly unusual and is a hot but tasty curry which is recommended-rice/naan bread portions are a little on the small side. The prices are also very reasonable with £ 25 been the average for starters, main courses with 3 sides and beers as an example price for 2 people dining together. Overall an excellent Indian restaurant worth visiting for good value, traditional food.

Bangla Spice - The dining room, nicely decorated to appear high end but the dress code is very casual.

The a la carte menu has a wide choice and there is something for the novice to seasoned Indian diner to choose from. Bangla Spice give generous portions so you'll not go hungry!! The Sunday buffet is also good with rotating weekly menu. Advanced publication of this can be found each weekend on their Facebook page. The currently have 5 different menus which always offer a mild, medium and hot main dish choice. This is in our opinion the best Indian restaurant in leyland and Chorley and one of the best in south ribble.

We had a couple of beers in two local pubs first (look for those reviews) and then to here for dinner. Its a large place by Indian standards probably about 100 covers or so. We were seated as soon as we arrived which isn't my favourite but they dont really have a bar area to have a drink and check out the menu. The service was good but too quick and that's why they lost a star. Don't take away the papads plate whilst we are still chewing the last bite, don't pounce on me the split second I finish my beer to see if I want another. I'm sure the guys meant well but somebody needs to train them a little better. However they are still 4 stars for an outstanding meal of chicken madras, Lamb masala, dhall, rice and bread. Came to the princely sum of 35 quid, I'm sure that's great value. Try it , you will be glad you did, just slow down guys!!

No one else came in during the hour or so I was there. I arrived and was immediately offered poppadoms with chutneys and pickles, which I accepted. The bread was hot and crisp, with little taste, and the chutneys were unremarkable. I did not care for the pickles. I did not know what to order and accepted the waiter/owner/maitre 'd's suggestion: a "medium" spicy dish. I had asked for spicy Indian about a week ago at Oxford and suffered the entire next day, so I decided medium would be OK. He said the dish was one of their best. It came and I was unimpressed. It was fairly spicy without being very tasty, There were a few chunks of chicken, but it was mostly a pretty lame sauce. I asked for chips instead of rice and they were freshly fried, crispy, frozen pre-cut potatoes. They had probably frozen for quite a while since most of them stuck to each other. To this point the review would probably be 3 stars, but this place lost every ounce of credibility when they presented me the check. It had a charge for £2.80 for the poppadoms, etc. When I asked about it, the sleazy guy said "I asked you and you said you wanted it, that is what we charge for it." Well, this is the kind of stuff that is typically included with a meal for free, as it was in the restaurant in Oxford, and I told him so. Finally, he offered to take if off my bill and presented me with another version where he rounded my £9.25 meal up to £10. I let him have the 75p. And also let him have this review. Just say no to King Karai. You'll be glad you did.

Which is great on the whole, although I could also hear the stomach grumblings of my fellow diners (accusatory groanings making me feel wholly responsible). My partner gave me a prep talk before I came in here - DON'T embarass me in front of my friends, we're already late because of you Suitably chastised, and plastering on a fake smile and a dollop of charm we went in, and made our way to the table. Despite such ominous beginnings, this place helped soothe any piqued ego's with it's calming atmosphere and massaged our palates with it's incredible food. I know it sounds slightly patronising but it really does feel like you're eating authentic Indian food here. The kind that Indians would want to eat. We went for a mixed grill starter to share and the meat was succulent and cooked well. For mains we ordered a selection of vegetarian and meat dishes and were beguiled by the simpleness of each dish, freshly prepared and intoxicatingly delicious. The prices stared at the higher end of the spectrum, but somehow the whole bill still came in at just over £40 for 4 of us, which I believe is very affordable. This place, it would appear, is full of nice surprises. Take your date here if you wish to see them again.
