A pet peeve of mine is oily curry, much of which I've encountered on the Curry Mile, so it was refreshing to see my dopiaza not swimming in ghee, as chunky and as slightly dry as I like my curries. And the rice didn't experience that stale, slightly chewy texture I find in a lot of restaurants. The ambience isn't altogether up to scratch as a little overlighting overwhelms the cosy slightly, but with attentive and friendly staff and such yummy dishes it's worth looking past. It'll easily match up to the best curry experiences you've had and it's certainly worth considering if you're an Indian food junkie.

The bread here is second to none - the very paragon of naan! The waiter was willing to offer recommendations, which was great, and the service was excellent. Drinks were cold, service was timely despite being busy, and everything was finished off with a Bailey's which came complimentary with the bill. We were asked if we wanted poppodoms and a pickle tray as soon as were seated, giving us something to munch on whilst perusing the (very large) menu. As another good mate had raved about Lamb Niharis for probably as long as I've known him, I chose that instead of my usual Saag. My friend chose a Chicken Bhuna and we shared rice and a peshwari naan. For drinks I was a renegade and ordered not a glass but a jug of Mango Lassi as I wanted to try something different. It was simply fantastic. How had I not discovered this refreshing and tasty beverage sooner? Our meals arrived after about 20 minutes, the peshwari glistening away and the curries smelling very appetising. Now the Nihari was good...there just wasn't a lot of it (only two chunks of lamb and a loose bone covered in sauce). It was very tender and the sauce was good for naan-dippage, but it just wasn't as enjoyable as my play-it-safe Saags. Service was great - attentive without being overly fussy. The final bill came to just over £40 between us which didn't seem unreasonable. A slick operation, decent food on the whole and friendly staff. However the service after that was a let down. The waiters are very dour and unfriendly so any advice on secection was not very forthcoming. I will not be rushing back although my food was good. When he said that he could handle spicy food, the waiter looked genuinely worried for the lad - a worry that turned out to be founded as he drank off several pints of iced water before he could properly talk afterwards). Secondly I very much enjoyed the dish I picked, a sweet prawn dhansak with delicately flavoured rice, which was a world away from the claggy, creamy versions I had eaten on Manchester's Curry Mile. Followed with masala fish for starters absolutely yummy. 2 dishes in and I can't find fault. This might just be a 5 star report :). For main course I went for the chicken tikka not too hot.
