We walked down earlier in the day and spoke to the owner asking if we should book, she said yes as it can get quite busy. We arrived later on about 9pm to find the place completey empty... maybe we should have seen the warning signs but we thought meh this will be fun, they can't do a bad job if we're the only ones there, so we ignored the awkwardness and headed on in. Upon entering a few of the staff just stared at us, then the owner came out and showed us to a table by the window. The decoration in the place was really random, we were sat next to what seemed to be a pirate ship wooden rail with some tiger print nearby as well. The owner explained they were in the middle of a refit and that the walls had been thick with grease when she arrived.... nice just what we wanted to hear before eating... We ordered a variety of indian dishes, some starters and naans and waited whilst listening to some Indian music being play from tinny cheap speakers on the window next to us. The atmosphere was... lets say underwhelming. The starters were okay, but when the main tandoori dish came my girlfriend took a bite and bit into a stone... literally a stone! She promptly removed the stone and put it on the table. She hurt her tooth and was pretty put off from the rest of the meal. We told the staff and the owner seemed apologetic but that was as far as it went. We didn't even get the meal discounted even though we left it and my girlfriend nearly chipped her tooth. Let just say we weren't very happy and the way the staff dealt with situation and to still charge us for a meal that had a stone / grit in it... not impressed. So to sum Eastern Balti up --- WATCH OUT FOR GRIT IN YA FOOD --- This place is just to awkwardly decorated and quiet to be worth a visit when in Kendal.

The Sultan is one of the best Indian restaurants anywhere IMHO. The aroma of authentic Indian cuisine greats you as you enter the Sultan. My all-time favorite dish here is the Lamb Vindaloo (5/5 £13.35) -- a fiery, spicy curry with tender lamb. I enjoy it with a side of Corriander Naan (5/5 £3.85) and some Mango Lassi. Located in a former Methodist church, the Sultan has kept many of the church's features in the dining room, which contribute to the atmosphere. It also does not serve alcohol, but there's a pub nearby for a pint before dinner. The staff has always been welcoming, friendly and attentive.

In my opinion the prices were standard of modern restaurants (£7-10 for a main)(which is a little pricey, in my opinion). The staff were generally okay, but compared to other restaurants in Lancaster (see Imrans), they were pretty unfriendly. The food came within a decent time and was hot, which is always a positive sign especially as I was part of a large group. Overall, I wouldn't tell people not to visit Sultans. But rather, I would tell them there are better places in Lancaster if you want Indian/Pakistani food. But this is only my opinion, based on one dining.

The staff and atmosphere every one you go in is always friendly and laid back. The staff let you know whats what and then just leave you to it. Came here for a meal with my boyfriends mum and wanted just a quick salad and pizza before we headed back to Manchester. Got a massive meat feast and as much salad as we could stuff in our greedy little mouths. Service and food were all excellent would definitely come back here :)

This place is heaving with people on a Saturday night, all dressed up with somewhere to go. It's on the main road from Lancaster to Heysham, a massive building, easy to spot, but definitely is a cut above the hotel/motel next door, with one lonely holidaying couple dining in the old-school conservatory. Anyway, once we were seated, in no time there is a waiter to take our drinks orders. Next up, a waiter to take our food order, with enough time to make a decision between the two. Drinks and poppadoms appear, with interesting dips (mango, onion chutney, raita, as well as a tomatoey-chilli sauce and a pile of powdered coconut - lots of new taste sensations to check out). It's nice to have something unexpected with the expected. We split a prawn puree and onion bhajis. The latter, non-greasy, the former, a little underwhelming but looking like it was made with fresh ingredients, which is always warming to the soul. Our mains - the boy complained his wasn't particularly warm (a south Indian garlic chilli chicken, and garlic was in abundance), with the assumption that mine was late to the party as it was fresh-cooked hot. I had the seafood sizzler - prawns, king prawns and monk fish in lime and spices, accompanied by a vegetable curry. Lime was noticeably unnoticeable and overall the dish was rather salty, but the fish was immaculately cooked. We also shared a peshwari naan, and chapatti. I don't remember much about the chapatti, but the naan simply blew me away. To this date, I haven't had better - lighter and fluffier than any I have had before - my hat off to the chef. Overall - food was good, service was immaculate and a good example of efficiency - complete with checking that we were ready for the next course before serving. Barbar definitely deserves it's popularity in my opinion.

Driving in from Ulverston, we were cut off in the middle of the road by a huge herd of cows. And I mean cut off; surrounded on all sides and with no sign of a farmer. Luckily, there was a gap and we managed to drive on... We definitley deserved the pint and a large roast after that truly country experience! I went for the pork roast with potatoes and crackling, with seasonal vegetables serves 'family style' as we were all having a roast. Everything was nice enough, but not out of this world. The meat was a touch thin, and I'm not a fan of being served both mashed and roast potatoes. I went for a dessert of apple crumble (listed, quite mysteriously, just as crumble on the menu) which was nice and chunky, rounding the meal off well. Service was friendly, with the front of house - and, I assume, manager - taking the time to speak to everyone who entered the pub or restaurant area. They cut your steak open to see if it's done for a start (don't be a chef if you can't tell when a steak is done). On the first go around I was served a tactical missile instead of a steak, second time around I got medium rare as asked. The rubber bullets (king prawns) were vulgar, they are most likely the reason why I've had food poisoning (peeing out my butt and dealing with severe nausea the past 36 hours.) Additionally this place is extremely overpriced, over 20 quid for an 8oz rump steak and 3 prawns. Absolutely. Shocking. I cannot advise people enough to stay away from this place at all costs before they kill someone. They need to be shut down.
