They have everything from bags of cheap shells to starfish to expensive collectibles for true beachcombers. We picked up a windchime made of shells, which was nicely packed and survived the drive home. Some of the stuff is so cheap that kids can purchase a souvenir or two with their pocket money. NOTE: They sell dried seahorses, but being somewhat eco-conscious these are only ones that are captured as the byproduct of commercial fishing. read more

They sell sea shells by the sea-shore!! Lots of seashells!! My family has been coming here ever since we moved to Cayucos when I was 1. It is a great place to go for ocean related gifts to hand out to those relatives who can only dream of living near the ocean. Their jewelry and home related items are priced pretty reasonably and they give great ideas for even creating your own gifts. I can a few hours in here just looking at the different shells from around the world, and trying to create unique decorative decor for friends and family. The Shell Shop will even try to order you exotic shells if you have a type in particular that you are looking for and they don't carry/have it in stock at the moment. read more

They really do "Excell in shells" !!! It's more like a shell museum than your run of the mill store that sells shells. I stop every time I'm in Morro Bay and I never leave empty handed or dissatisfied. Also, the workers there can tell you a lot about the shells you buy, very knowledgable! read more

I've been going to the Shell Shop since I was a little kid. I loved it then. I love it now. I took my fiance there and figured he'd be bored since all there are are shells. But boy, was I wrong. He was fascinated! My dad use to tell me random facts about history and geography that related to the shells, so I finally had someone to repeat them all to. I bought a bunch of random shells of different sizes, colors, textures, shapes, etc. and shared them with my preschool class. They were amazed! This is definitely a great place to take children if you want them to have a memorable experience. Prices are... okay, I guess. It's hard to compare. There aren't really many shell shops out there. The selection is enormous. I've always wanted to buy one of the puffer fish or shark jaws. Parking is usually okay. There is a private lot for Shell Shop parking only. It can get pretty busy during peak hours of the summer. If you're on the Embarcadero, take a peek in the Shell Shop. Even if you think you'll be bored to tear, you'll find a lot of interesting things. read more

I walked by thinking it was tourist trap, however I saw a puffer fish I HAD to buy for my teenager's up coming birthday, it was such a good price! I'm AMAZED at all the shells there were in this store. Amazing! Great for collectors. Great prices too! The owners were in there and said they'd been there for over 60 years. The Shell Shop is unlike any other- literally a must-sea!! All of their merchandise is so beautiful and unique, from all over the world. Their individual shells I believe are very affordable too. I absolutely love the shell night-lights, it's definitely a memorable souvenir. We give them out as Christmas presents because they are just so cool! A Shell of a good time! The Shell Shop has become quite the Morro Bay icon. Sitting on the Embaracadero for longer than I've been on this Earth, this shop has made it's mark as a "Can't Miss" local shop. You'll find shells of every kind; cheap to expensive, ugly to beautiful. Most of their items are local, but many things are from around the world. Need shells made into turtles? How about a doll? Really? Absolutely nobody has reviewed the Morro Bay Shell Shack yet??? The Shack was absolutely magical when I was younger. As soon as you enter the store you find yourself surrounded by hanging garlands of shells, tables and tables of every size and type of shell you could find from seashores of the world, and even shark jaws gaping at you from the eaves of the building. Although I don't find myself constantly looking upwards, as I used to when I entered the shop, the place hasn't lost some of its power over me. This has to be kitsch-gift central, and it really couldn't be more amazing. They have absolutely everything you could ever think of coated in shells here: boxes, picture frames, Christmas ornaments, earrings, nightlights, chandeliers, and I've even bought a couple beautiful mother-of-pearl rings here. The stuff makes great gifts for a reasonable price- and who do you know that hates seashells? Never bought anything here, but if I was looking for a hard to find, unique shell this would be the place to hit up. Beware though, some shells will cost you a pretty penny. They also have little placards that inform you of where the shells originate. It's almost like a shell museum, which is cool until you realize all of them used to be live creatures :( Things I would think about purchasing in the future: a shell nightlight or some Christmas ornaments (snowmen, angels, etc) made of shells. So cute. Obviously, these things are not necessary, but it's a neat store to peruse through nonetheless. read more

What a lovely shell shop! They have a very wide variety of shells, along with shell figures that they created, and other things (like nets, pearls, etc.) Some of the items they have for sale are beyond creative, and things that I have never thought of before! They also sell damaged shells, and starfish on discount if you plan to do a project that would allow this. There is plenty of parking nearby on the side streets with no meters! read more

Very interesting shop with shells from all over the world. The best part is that they are all priced very reasonably. They also have interesting things like fossilized ammonites and shark jaws. The staff was very patient with my children who kept changing their minds with what they wanted from the display shelves. There is a big section of smaller shells for very cheap prices and this was a big hit for my kids as they get to go around with a basket and pick whatever they want without breaking a bank. read more
