They have SO many loose shells, shell decor, shells made into little animals, shell jewelry, & more! Many of the loose shells had a price range of a dime to under a dollar. It was all so organized with labels that identified names & where they were from. There was even a sign letting you know you could request a pencil & paper from the clerk to write down the names of the shells for your collection. Customer service was friendly & personable. The cashiers were very friendly and very helpful in finding what you needed. My only wish is that they had an online store to purchase more shells and other items. Such a quaint shop! So many shells, so many cool little trinkets, I was in heaven looking at everything. Our car was absolutely packed so I didn't get anything out of fear of crushing it in our luggage but the next time I'm here I'm bringing a whole separate bag just to shop. Staff was kind and help you get whatever you need, they give you a pen and paper if you want to write down the origin and type of shells you buy. If you're not too keen on getting smelly tar all over your feet and shoes by visiting the beach a little ways away from here, this is 100% the better option and you get so many options too! I think the prices were amazing, I'd slowly turn a tag praying for it to not be over a price only to see it was half the price I was already willing to pay for it. This store is probably one of the best souvenir gift shop to stop by if you ever find yourself in Morro Bay. Location: It is located at the intersections of Embarcadero St and Marina St. There is a giant sign in a shape of a shell, it is very hard to miss it. Parking: Street parking only. It can get very crowded on the weekend. I suggest going early or later or just park far away. Atmosphere: The store is like a shell museum. Inside you'll find all types of shells and from various international locations. The shop was so huge that I find myself to be at the store for literally an hour! The shells: They have everything from single pieces, to shell made animals, to shell night light, to decorative items. I was very fascinated by the variety. I also believe the best thing about this shell shop too is their pricing, I find their price to be extremely reasonable and they have all kinds of price range to fit your budget! There's no place in the whole state (or west coast) like the Shell Shop. Extremely unique. Every time I pass through Morro I have to take a stop even to look around. They have the widest selection of species in the entire west coast, ranging from all over the world. For collectors, this is the biggest selection you will find. They also have cute handmade trinkets (pictured below) and gifts. Extremely affordable and reasonable for having such high quality items from around the globe. Plenty of parking as well, the parking lot is reserved for the Shell Shop only. Great service from the staff, very careful packaging of fragile items. When planning my Morro Bay trip, I made this place a non-negotiable because I was dying to see what the hype was all about! I'm so glad I stopped by because not only did I see the cutest creations, but also found the best souvenirs and gifts I could possibly get my hands on. Their selections are also massive and they have everything from shells to sea stars and night lights and so much more. I bought a few pieces of cut shells for jewelry making and also some of the other things like the funny turtle and animal creations. This was my number one must do shopping in town when we visited. I had heard of the place from a friend and I am so glad I was able to stop in! This shop is so cute, I don't know if everything is handmade or mass produced but I was very surprised by the prices. I knew I was get one thing but when I saw how cheap shells are I was able to buy so much more. The chandeliers absolutely blow my mind, but I did get two dioramas, a coin purse and a shell magnet. I have been to the Shell Shop four separate times, 2008, 2013, 2017, and 2023. It is one of the most iconic spots in Morro Bay, 2nd to only Morro Rock itself. Not much has changed throughout the years, but it's always an incredible experience walking in and seeing the breadth of preserved sea life throughout the shop. Most shells are labeled with species name and city/country of origin (they import from marine areas all over Asia). In the cabinets surrounding the open area are more delicate/precious pieces, so make sure to take your time perusing if you are into this kind of thing (I ALWAYS walk around for at least an hour). It's quite the experience, and it's not for everyone, but it's definitely a place that is a must-see at least once for anyone visiting Morro Bay. read more

I was on a business trip (yes--business trip to Morro Bay!), and had to purchase a gift for my kids. My coworker suggested this shop that she remembered visiting as a kid. Not only was the shop easy to find on a main road near the water on Morro Bay, but it had its own parking lot! No hunting for street parking here! Near the door, there is a picture of the Shell Shop from a few decades ago, and one of today. Not much has changed. This probably explains why it is still in business--because it is awesome! Small, medium, large, smooth, shiny, glistening or matte... fragile or sturdy..you can find shells of all sizes, colors, and shapes. You can find boxes decorated with shells, shell jewelry, shell statues and nicknacks... My favorite find were fairly affordable shells (under a buck or so) in various boxes that told you where the shells were from. I left with two shell boxes filled with smaller shells for my kids to enjoy. (And they loved them, btw!). I hope this shop sticks around. I can't wait to visit again when I'm in town for vacation! How can you not love the store? I've been coming since I was a kid. They have magnificent shells and prices are quite fair. I gave my daughter a price limit, which of course she went over. There's enough little things that she was able to buy a couple of treasures. There is hand sanitizer on tables throughout and masks are required. I love this place. It's worth a visit. read more

We love shopping in the Morrow bay Shell Shop on Embarcadero Street. It has the largest assortment of shells from around the world for low prices! I have purchased sea shell jewelry, individual shells, and a shell air plant from the Shell shop. The have beautiful handcrafted patio or outdoor items made from natural materials. I also found dried starfish, sand dollars and a sea shell doll about 10" tall on a recent visit to the Shell Shop. Best abalone shell collection I have ever seen. The cashiers were helpful, very friendly, and they will carefully wrap your shells in tissue paper. You can ask for a box, for very fragile items. My shell collection is small, but each time we visit a beach, I purchase more shells. read more

A great place to show children the shells and sea creatures from the oceans. All kinds of shells and the store is very neat and organized. Oh my goodness, talk about a seashell wonderland!! If you find yourself in Morro Bay, you MUST stop into this incredible little shop. And if you collect seashells, it may even be worth planning a trip to Morro Bay just to come to this shop because it is seriously one of a kind and I believe one of the only few in the country. My husband insisted that we go in - I was a little eh. Like why do I need to look at a store full of seashells? WELL GUYS, I was wrong. This store is so awesome! From bins and bins of seashells, to hanging wall decor, PURSES, ornaments, figurines, jewelry, etc. There is surely something that will catch everyone's eye. It is a great place to get a souvenir for kiddos because the prices are right and it is so fun to pick something out! I walked out with a Morro Bay ornament and a VERY cool seashell PURSE!
