    Iced chestnut latte
    Natalie D.

Loved the waffles that I had - it came with cream, candy floss, drizzle of chocolate, hash brown. I also got bacon - which wasn't part of my order as they wrongly put it in - but the taste made up for the mishap. At least they didn't charge me extra for that. The iced latte was delicious, it was creamy and rich and good to drink. Price is reasonable for both the food and drinks, this cafe is highly recommended to anyone in downtown Auckland.

Ambiance and service was great and friendly. Everything looked yummy. I had the kimchi pork belly egg breakfast. Was a little disappointed. My fried egg was way overcooked. Kimchi was good.

French toast's presentation was unique, and the cappuccino tasted great and came with a cute spoon! Would go again

Auckland Yelpers, you have not let me down yet! Was wandering around one morning while visiting, looking for some good food and coffee with my husband. We were sans children for the weekend, feeling laid back and carefree. We walked past The Shelf and I thought, "That one looks cute." A quick look on Yelp and I made us turn around to check it out. What a good decision, thanks to all of you who came before us :) The decor is cute and intimate, light-hearted and clever, including the carved wood covers on the menus that hang on the wall and spell out the word S-H-E-L-F. I had the simple eggs on toast, but it was awesome. I don't usually get all that excited for eggs and toast, but they were both done so perfectly tasty. And then the coffee. We both had vanilla flat whites. The vanilla came as a shot on the side, so you can add as much or as little as you like. The coffee was just plain amazing. I know a lot of folks have already remarked on this, but it was so good I felt compelled to put in my own applause as well. Will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

I'm giving 5 stars because this place serves the best coffee I've ever had in Auckland. I ordered a soy flat white and it was creamy, full bodied and bold all at the same time. Also, it was an actual, proper, real deal flat white (ie: no fluffy foam, just crema on top) which is something I really yearn for as a former barista. I've started coming here regularly on my morning tea break - often opting for my soy flat white and a different muffin depending on my mood. I've so far tried the berry banana muffin and the blueberry, both of which were very tasty, and had a lovely buttery consistency that makes them crumble deliciously in the mouth. When opting for takeaway I am always given a wooden knife, which I much prefer to plastic alternatives, and then dining in they serve your food on cute round boards with adorable animal utensils that really suit the playful atmosphere. The interior decor is like a modern playhouse, very energetic and bright while managing to still come across as stylish. I love it! In addition to all of this, the staff are vibrant and incredibly friendly - be sure to pay them a visit.

    Delicious coffee and almond croissant

Each time I walk into this beautiful cosy cafe you are greeted with a smile and a warm welcome. A fine selection of drinks, hot and cold food and delicious treats like the almond croissant. The team at The Shelf are friendly, helpful and with lots of seating options, free WiFi you can enjoy your time here, perfect for remote workers, catch ups with friends or a little treat yo'self with tasty food and drink, it's worth a stop, Thank You Team Shelf.

From inside. Definitely a nice place to hang out for a bit.

I popped in here not knowing what to expect aside from hoping they'd have tea. It's a little hard to tell from the outside what kind of a place it is. They do have several different tea varieties as well as some herbal iced ones. Since Earl Grey is my poison I asked if I could get it iced. I was given a tea pot of very good tea and a big cup of ice. Perfect as that makes a lot of iced tea! There is free wifi -- whoo hoo! I didn't offer any food but the cakes and such in the case looked scrumptious.

    Deconstructed Iced Latte

This place is a treat for my husband and I when we're craving good coffee and something sweet. It's located on High Street in Auckland CBD at the base of the Metropolis building. We love to come for brunch on the weekends. The staff are super friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is nice and homey, the music is always good and the decor is sooo cute! The deconstructed iced mocha is creatively presented to you with the chocolate, espresso, milk, etc. in separate cups for you to prepare yourself. It is absolutely delicious! I also love the affogato as you can never go wrong with coffee and ice cream. It's delightful every time. :) The waffles are my absolute favorite. They are thin and perfectly crispy with just the right amount of maple syrup, chocolate and powdered sugar. Yum!!!

Came here for a drink before going to a game on a Sunday, around 4pm and this place is almost full house! My partner had a fresh juice. Taste great but it's the smallest juice I see...I can finish it in one sip. I prefer my ice latte which comes in 4 components, a shot of coffee, milk, syrup, and coffee ice!! I had fun putting this coffee together and taste great too.

Cozy shop with fast WiFi and good service. We needed a spot to get some work done and crash with our luggage before hopping on a ferry. This was perfect. A few more outlets near the tables would be nice.

A very quaint but cute hidden gem in the city... The Shelf provides an awesome experience every time. As bagel lovers, my bestie and I ordered the bagel with cream cheese and jam. She (my bestie) branched out and got a long black.. I, being a tea lover, had the English Breakfast tea. Everything was super fresh and the tea actually came with an egg timer. The decor is very cute and while the music can be quite loud on occasion, the atmosphere is great and the staff really care about their customers.

They have an impressive stock of board and card games--for adults and for families--the nicest, friendliest staff you could ask for, and a comfy interior setup for your hours of board gaming pleasure. The coffee is pretty decent as well, although none of my friends nor I have tried the food menu just yet. Here's how it works: you walk in, you pick a table, and the staff start your timer. Then you can either pick a game or have one recommended to you based on pretty much whatever criteria you want, and if it's a new game to you, the (again, wonderfully friendly) staff explain the rules and setup to you. Then you play--for hours, if you want. At $2.50 an hour, it's a steal. (Also, they're currently awaiting their liquor license, so although there's no alcohol there yet, just you wait. Craft beers are on their way!) They close at 10pm, I believe, at least on the weekends, but once the booze arrives, I'm hoping they stay open a wee bit later. I'm definitely going back, often.

They have a specific shelf full of games that require only 2 players. A great way to spend an afternoon or evening. Can get noisey but adds to the fun.
