Title: Beautiful Store, Disappointing Quality, and Unacceptable Customer Service…read more
I was genuinely excited to visit The Witchery during my trip to Galveston. I love crystals, gemstones, and tarot cards, so I had high expectations for this store. Unfortunately, what should have been a wonderful experience turned into one of the most disappointing customer service encounters I've ever had.
I spent over $50 purchasing crystal bracelets, including Moonstone and Amethyst. Within just three days, the elastic on those two bracelets broke despite barely being worn. The elastic appeared old and deteriorated. I had planned to wear one and give the other to a friend, so having them fall apart almost immediately was both frustrating and embarrassing.
Since I live in Houston, returning to Galveston isn't convenient. I decided to call the store, hoping to explain what happened and ask whether anything could be done.
I wasn't even requesting a refund for my entire purchase, only for the two bracelets that broke.
Instead of listening or showing any understanding, the manager became defensive, rude, and unnecessarily aggressive. He repeatedly insisted that something like this was impossible, that it had never happened in his 50 years in business, and that they don't sell old merchandise.
He also addressed me as "young lady" in an extremely condescending tone, making me feel as though I was being unreasonable simply for raising a legitimate concern.
I wasn't accusing anyone of intentionally selling defective merchandise. I was explaining what happened to the products I purchased.
Even if the store had a strict no-return policy, I would have understood a polite explanation. A simple "I'm sorry that happened, but unfortunately we cannot accept returns" would have been far more professional than the hostility I experienced.
Instead, I received no apology, no explanation of a return policy, no alternative, and absolutely no attempt to resolve the situation.
As someone who also works in customer service, I understand that products can occasionally be defective. What I cannot understand or accept is treating a paying customer with aggression simply because they asked for help.
I felt attacked and dismissed for making a perfectly reasonable inquiry.
What makes this particularly disappointing is that I genuinely wanted to love this store. I appreciate crystals and their spiritual significance, and I was excited to support a small business that shares those interests.
Unfortunately, the manager's attitude completely overshadowed everything I initially liked about the place.
Customer service isn't about always saying yes. It's about treating people with dignity and respect, even when the answer is no.
I didn't expect special treatment. I expected basic professionalism and courtesy.
Sadly, I received neither.
I won't be returning, and I cannot recommend this business based on my experience.
