Storytime... ;-) I had gifted my mother a Victorinox 8"…read morechef's knife back in the early '70s and she used it constantly, even as a cleaver on frozen foods. On her passing, I got it back and it was not in prime shape. Tip bent, damage to the blade, dents to the spine, etc. Not pretty at the last, but it was her workhorse of the kitchen and she loved it for decades. I took it to John and he did a fantastic job of removing damage to the blade, tip, and spine. Results - As sharp as it was when new, properly beveled, tip trimmed and belly curve well done, and most spine dents removed, but reminders of character remain. Now it's MY workhorse of the kitchen (along with a 10" Mercer and a 6" Vic paring knife). Done quickly, professionally, and with care. I told him the scissors were my mother's. He was very sweet and kind. Give this man your well-earned business. Not only is he an expert, but his prices are amazing!

Anyway, Eric is right in my neighborhood and took my super dull kitchen knives and sharpened them razor sharp. So happy with the results that I even purchased one of his knives. I love that he's an 8 minute drive from me in my old hood El Cerrito. Eric told me that he sharpens by hand which is something I totally suck at. He gave me some pointers on cutting boards & how to take better care of my knives going forward. He also has a booth at a couple of Berkeley farmers markets so check him out.

I was telling my wife "I wish someone could just come here and sharpen our knives." While looking to see if that was a thing I stumbled upon Jonathan, and he was exactly what I was looking for. I contacted him on Sunday, and although he was initially booked out for a few weeks, he managed to squeeze me in on Wednesday because he didn't want me to have to wait that long. I really appreciated that! Since I had a few days to plan, I rounded up knives from family members and ended up bringing him 20 knives to sharpen. He got through all of them in about an hour, and every single one came back incredibly sharp. We are very happy with the results. Jonathan is friendly, knowledgeable, hardworking, and clearly takes pride in what he does. His prices are also incredibly reasonable, and I honestly don't think they'll stay this low for long.
