The quality of these shades are far superior than the other ones I looked at. We have had ours remote controlled and manual pull for the past 7 years and have absolutely no complaints. Still very smooth and in very great shape. The last time we bought blinds was 26 yrs. ago, so yeah the technology wasn't there. Our contractor referred us here, my husband wanted motorized screens ... I had reservations but within just a few minutes of telling her what we needed, Morella was on it! I loved her incredible thoroughness with every detail, nothing too small, anticipating our questions and asking us questions we would not have known to ask. There customer service we got from her was incredible, tremendous, so precise. I've no doubt she deals with far huger home projects than our few windows but her attentiveness and warmth plus wealth of knowledge was everything! I also has a special request for the bedroom: a blackout option. I need to basically sleep in a cave, the tiniest sliver of light escaping from any crack or LED click light ... that damn light will demon-like haunt me no way will I sleep. Morella immediately got it. And presented a slew of options. Because this is a necessity and we don't have an entire multi-story house of window treatments to buy, we didn't inquire about prices. The shop is on the main drag, in Burlingame, in the midst of all the other shops and is fairly small inside. But she was able to show us live demonstrations of everything we needed, and thank God we didn't have to do something abstract like pick out of a catalog, which would've been too difficult. The interior is neat, clean, spartan, all the options laid out in front. Street parking on the Ave is difficult but side street is okay, as are the surrounding public garages. With so many store options for window treatments, what really sets businesses apart is the customer service--with Morella, we lucked out BIG time: her thorough organized efficiency was the spirit that literally sings to me :-) read more

5-stars for the staff and the shade itself. 2-stars for the motor... do NOT buy the motor. I plunked down several thousand dollars extra for a motorized shade. It worked great (for 5 years under warranty) until this year (year 6), and the motor burned out. Now I have to drop another $500+ for a replacement motor with no additional warranties on the new motor. AVOID the motorized shade. read more

INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING - Just schedule your own contractor to do the installation if you decide to order from this company. We had a very good experience with our sales person at the store and we placed the order for a big roller shade for our new huge window. However, it took quite a while to finally get the product as the fabric was on back order (that part is completely understandable and out of anyones control though). After a very long wait for the production, shipping and delivery, the product finally arrives a couple of months after placing the order. Now we have two huge boxes sitting in our living room and we are only allowed to book the installation after deliver is received, (makes sense). But here is where things get really FRUSTRATING...our installation day is finally here (5 weeks after delivery) and the installers are scheduled for arrival between 3pm and 5pm. But at 4:30pm, I get a voicemail that our installation has been canceled. So I call back and learn that there was an issue and the installers can't make it and that now I have to rebook my appointment. So I had to get in the back of the line and wait until the next available opening which was another month away. I find it INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING that I have to get in the back of the line after I have been waiting this long already. So people are getting their installation today that ordered their product months after I scheduled mine. Before you order with this company, consider the length of time it takes to schedule your installation, but really the biggest consideration should be that they do not care about their customer's time or about doing the right thing. I feel they should have prioritized our reschedule. read more

We ordered a big roller shade and waited a very long time for it to be produced and delivered. Once the shade was delivered, we then had to book our installation. We booked our installation but it was another 5 weeks out. Bummer. But then finally on our installation day, we got a call letting us know that our appointment had been canceled. They made us book another installation date which was another 5 weeks out. So it didn't matter that we had already waited a huge amount of time, we had to go through the wait again. We then got a few promises from different Shade Store employees telling us that they would prioritize us and we'd get a call when they could squeeze us in. They said we were now on the priority, 'expedited' list and so we ended up getting hopeful that the shade store would make things right... But, it's been complete silence ever since, and we haven't heard a peep from anyone. Now, our second 5 week installation date is finally approaching and I just find it a joke that they even bothered playing the pretend, "expedited" game with us. At the end of the day, we had to go through the entire waiting for installation period twice and no one could care less. read more

Very Knowledgeable and PATIENT sales staff (Audrey). Helped me get the effect I was aiming for in completing a remodel of my mid-century minimalist condo in San Mateo. Final tab was pricey, BUT the product and materials are first-rate, and the installation was a breeze, even when the tech had to return to fine-tune an issue with the operation of the panel tracks. Highly recommend these shades if you are "cleaning up/re-focusing" the look of a mid-century design: the shades are a perfect alternative to drapes and/or shutters because they add no visual weight to the room; they seem to disappear when opened and even when deployed to manage bright sunshine. read more

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE THE SHADE STORE. It is the worst They only care about getting your business but not customer service. Once they have your order it is impossible to get in touch with the sales reps (especially Campbell store) but even the regional manager. I have spent hours dealing with three small shades. They are expensive for what you get and it is a terribly run organization. I am now going on 4 months waiting to get the accurate install (3 times of mismeasuring) and zero follow up communication. Disappointing and frustrating experience working with The Shade Store. They are prompt in taking window measurements and designer consultants will quickly move with placing an order as they want your business. They would even give their selling pitch that we have a fast turnaround. The real problem arises in getting your shipped shades installed. They cancelled my appointment the day of installation with no reason and provided a link to schedule next available appointment which was a month later. We had shades sitting in our house for a month already. I went ahead and scheduled 2nd appointment thinking that this time installation will happen but again they cancelled on me just 30 mins prior to arrival window of technician and again shared the link for next appointment which was a month from now. Super frustrated, I decided to get installation cancelled from the Shade Store and it took numerous phone calls, number of days and constant emailing/ reminders to get installation price refunded which I had already paid upfront. I then hired another company who was super efficient and responsive and finally got shades installed. I won't recommend Shade Store if you are looking for an efficient service after paying $$$$ for window treatment. read more

We worked with Morella on selecting shades for our entire house after doing a full renovation. We previously had shutters and the only thing I knew was I didn't want them again. Morella was so patient as we went through all the options (sometimes more than once) and we never felt pressured. She replied to our questions at all hours of the day/weekends and was so considerate with her answers. Like others, it took a while to get the shades and get them installed, but at the end of the day it was worth it. The final bill for my roller blinds was over a thousand dollars more that was originally quoted. Alarmed I immediately contacted my sales representative Morella at the store. She could not provide me an explanation for the price discrepancy, but said she would look into it and get back to me. To make a long story short she spoke with her supervisor and it was determined that the price increase was the result of a small increase in the width of the blind, which for some reason was not factored into the original quotes. With Morella's help and advocacy I was credited back the cost over the original quote and made well. Excellent customer service from her and her lead in resolving this issue. The first time I went to The Shade Store in Burlingame I met Natalia. I didn't have an appointment yet she welcomed me in. I told her that I wanted a shade for a 100" sliding door going out to the yard. She asked me pertinent questions and then began to show me samples. I spent quite a bit of time with her and she was very helpful. I was given samples to take home. I decided to order the shade and the process was flawless. The window was accurately measured by the kind man (I believe his name was Jeremy) that came to my house. The shade arrived much sooner than expected and Natalia was able to move up the installation date. I had a couple of questions after installation so I called the store. Natalia was off for a few days (around the holidays) so I spoke with Penny and she was very helpful and kind as well. After the installation I noticed one side of the shade was minimally lower than the other. I called Natalia and she immediately called the installation department to come back to my house. This is a disappointing experience as a first time user. Had a good store experience with sales staff, selected and measured for my order professionally, they arrived at my home within expected timeframe, but installation fell WAY short. After pre-paying for installation (as instructed by store), I paid $1700 for two blinds. Installers call and offer me ONE date between now and Sept 7! What kind of service is that? I was looking for some new window shades for the dining room and was given several referrals from Yelp. Our house was finishing up with some new construction, so although I had these referrals the dining room was not quite ready yet. However, one day we were in Burlingame and while walking on Burlingame Avenue we saw The Shade Store. I remembered it was one of the referrals on my list, so we decided to take a look. We were helped by Teri who showed us features on the different shades they had in their display room and gave us many samples to take home. She was very nice and helpful and answered all of our questions while we were in the store. After we got home, I tried the various samples on the windows. By this time construction had just completed in the room. After a week or so, I knew what color and style I wanted in a roller shade and called Teri and gave her an estimate of my window measurements. She sent me an initial quote to which I was agreeable. She arranged an appt. for a (free) professional measurement of my three windows. After the measurements were taken and sent to her, she provided a final quote on the shades and installation fee for my review and approval. After making payment, the order went in and two weeks later the shades were delivered to my house. The installer came on the day Teri scheduled for us and he arrived in the time frame promised. The shades were installed and I love them! I like the fact that the shades are made in the USA and the fabric/materials are of high quality. No problems, no hassles, no issues. We ordered custom roller shades and valances for our condo after having all of our windows and sliding doors replaced. I visited the Burlingame store and the in-store experience was fine and Terri was very helpful in my selection of shades, scheduling the appointment for my windows and doors to be measured, completing the order, and scheduling the installation. But the installation process has been, and continues to be, terrible. The Shade Store uses contract installers, not installers employed by The Shade Store. The Shade Store also requires pre-payment in full for the shades and the installation, so the customer has no real control over the quality of service provided after that point. And, the product is shipped to your home instead of the installer bringing the shades on the day of installation. This means we had to store very large and heavy boxes for 16 shades and valances for two weeks prior to our installation appointment. Finally, the day of our appointment arrives. I was told that the installation would take 3-4 hours to complete. Now, many of our window openings are not perfectly square, but I assumed that this would be taken into account when the "professional" installer came to my home to take measurements. Well, it was not. Most of my shades are not level. Two shades in my master bedroom where installed way out of level and the installer said that new shades would have to be ordered so that they would fit properly. He left the valance in one window not fully installed so that I can see about an inch of the screw between the window frame and valance. He didn't bother to install the valance in the other window. In our living room, he screwed the hardware directly into brand new wood trim around our sliding doors, didn't get the holes in the right place, then screwed new holes. So now I have holes in brand new wood trim, when I expected the hardware to be screwed into the wall above the trim. A week after this installation appointment, I had to contact The Shade Store for the status of the replacement shades and valances because I hadn't heard anything from them. It was clear to me that the installer never communicated to The Shade Store that replacement shades would need to be ordered. The Shade Store also reached out to that installer multiple times to get the measurements from him, but he never returned their messages. So they had to send out a second installer to take new measurements. It has now been 2 months since I placed my order, 5 weeks since the first unsuccessful installation, and almost 2 weeks since the second installer came to take new measurements. One replacement shade was shipped to me, but shipped to some random address in San Jose and I live in San Mateo. So they had to put in an order for a new remake. The second replacement shade has been remade (I think), but maybe not shipped yet. And, to top it all off, these shades were very expensive. We were willing to spend the money for good quality custom-sized shades, but this had definitely not been worth the money or time expense. Please think twice before ordering shades from The Shade Store. The first red flag was having to pre-pay in full for the product AND installation. I should have taken a pause at that... read more
