I have been to Shack in the Back many times for company events and they have always done a great job. Having events here is always a good time since there are options between chatting in the bar area, hanging outside by the water, playing cornhole on the grass area, etc. There are three bar areas, 2 in the main building and one towards the back where the grass area is. Drinks have always been well-made and service was always quick and friendly. Nothing to complain about there. I do wish that they had a bigger bathroom or more bathrooms. The one right by the main building is tiny (the men's bathroom has 1 stall and 2 urinals). They do have portable bathrooms there too but who wants to use those... I recommend checking this place out either on Wednesdays when it is open to the public or book it on any other day for a private event. read more

This place is not a very good place when renting for a venue . The owner April never answers your text messages or call. They make u have 2 security guards with only 30 people . And the clean up that says it's included is not . You have to clean all the things off the tables yourself. So no the cleaning is not included as they claim it is. read more

I came for their Wednesday night party. It's the type of place you go to once in a while for the ambiance. I was skeptical of the $10 cover charge... Especially in West Texas, it seems particularly unjustified for an outdoor bar. I suppose they are trying to screen for particular patrons. I had been sitting there for over an hour when a woman who I presume works there tried to kick me and a couple friends out of our table. She was apologetic, but explained that a particular customer reserves this specific table every week and pays a considerable sum to do so. She said sorry, she "has to" ask us to move, because "he paid for it." She said she had placed a bucket on the table to mark it as reserved, but the table was completely clear when we sat down. I really doubt that any customers would have moved that bucket, and in any case why not invest in a "Reserved" sign? Overall pretty unprofessional. Ultimately the guy who wanted the table decided to sit somewhere else so we weren't displaced. It can get pretty packed, so I recommend getting there early, probably before midnight. There's live music, the setting is pretty, so I recommend the experience. read more

A once in a lifetime experience. When I say that, I mean if you live in West Texas (Midland/Odessa area), you should go to experience it ONCE and that is it. It's only opened Wednesdays to the public due to special events occurring on the other days aka the weekend. If you go early, there is happy hour from 5-7 PM but the special is only on beers, a bucket of 6 beers for $20. It's a great deal except it limits you to only beer so if you aren't a beer drinker then the HH is not for you. During the summer, it's hot so if you get there when the sun hasn't quite set yet, you're going to sweat so consider yourself warned. Also, even when you come early, finding a table might be difficult because a lot of people reserve the tables and they don't come until it feels good out so you're surrounded by reserved empty tables for quite awhile. We came here during HH and right when you get to the parking area, they collect an entry fee for each person. It's $5 during HH and after 7 PM, it's $10. If you aren't interested in the beer, you can get other drinks. They put the drinks in a styrofoam cup (super classy) which makes it easier for them to clean up, I guess. One shot drink is about $6 and two shot drink is $12. If you get hungry, there are food trucks in the same parking lot so you can make your way over and grab a bite. I think they sell food there too because I saw some people munching on a loaded potato or something. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice change of scenery. If you haven't gone, I suggest you go at least once. It's something you don't see anywhere really. There is a live band located near the restrooms and the night we went, they took requests which was fun. There's a lot of greenery, which is something we don't get to see too often in West Texas, but it's expensive. I would be okay if it was cheap drinks and we had an entry fee coming in or expensive drinks with no entry fee. It's outdoors for goodness sakes! They're not even spending on AC in the summer. They don't have games either for an outdoor area. You literally just sit and chill with your friends, which is something I can do for free outside my apartment complex. read more

Takes FOREVER to get drinks! Be prepared to go up and order three rounds at a time, because you will not want to go wait in line each time you want a drink. Cool setting and atmosphere, but totally not worth the wait for drinks that are also CRAZY overpriced. read more

Ive only been to Shack in the Back on Wednesday evenings for their Party on the Patio. It's $10 cover (cash only) and drinks are around $12. Despite that it's a great chill atmosphere and it gets pretty crowded. There are 2 food trucks there: one with bbq and tacos and one with woodfired oven pizza. If you want a place to sit you need to get there before 9 for sure. And be sure to bring mosquito repellant. read more

First time I have ever come to this place for a girls night out. Thought it was a very cool place to chill and listen to music. After trying to close my tab, the waitress comes back and tells me my card was declined. I gave her another one not thinking anything about it. After realizing I had plenty of money in my account, I get on my phone to check it out. This place had charged me multiple times for drinks I never had or ordered. $400 worth!! I only had a bucket of beers!!! After calling the manager over to fix this he first asked me if I bought the round for the other women at the table?!? Seriously???? When my second card came back it was for $69 (just for a bucket of beers). Manager finally goes to look it up and there were 5 charges on my first card and they charged me twice for the $69 on both cards. Ridiculous!!! Knowing that sometimes people make mistakes I let it go after the manager showed me he deleted all the charges and refunded my money. And bought my bucket of beers for me. Nice, right??? I week later still no refund and when I called I now have to provide my bank statement thru email to prove I haven't been refunded. After seeing the comment before mine about what happened to them on the same night I'm furious. They really need to get their crap together!!! I will never go back to this place. This place ripped me off $129.75. I had a tab going and at the end of the night I signed off on my tab which was only $14.25 plus tip. The next day I noticed an additional charge on my account in the amount of $129.75 from shack in the back. I called up there and explained what happen and I was told they would look into it. When they got back to me about it they told me they had a signed copy of the ticket in the amount of $129.75. I asked to see the signed copy and it was sent to me but the signature was not mine and the hand writing for the tip and total weren't my hand writing either. When explained this to them I was told all I could do was dispute it with my bank. The ticket had the name Eric P. on it as the person who ran the transaction. This person works there behind the bar and got me for $129.75. I guess this is the type of employs this place hires and allows customers to get ripped off.
