I've been going to The Serpentarium for a while now, and it's one of those places my daughter and I keep coming back to. We're usually stopping in to grab crickets or worms for our reptiles, but it's never just a quick in-and-out. Oh, and they sell pinhead crickets, which is the only place I have found that sells these tiny guys for my baby jumpers. There's always something new to look at, and a lot of times they have a reptile out, which makes it even more fun. The staff is incredibly nice and really takes their time, especially with kids. They'll answer questions, explain things in a way that actually makes sense, and if there's a reptile that can be handled, they'll let you interact with it. One thing I really appreciate is how knowledgeable they are. They don't just sell animals, they actually care about proper care. I even noticed they carry jumping spiders with the correct habitats set up, which you don't always see at other places. Helpful tip: If you have kids who are curious about reptiles, ask questions while you're there. The staff is great about explaining things and making it a fun learning experience. It's one of those local spots that feels both fun and educational, and we've honestly never had a bad experience here. read more

I've been to this store a few times after a friend recommended it, especially because I was interested in investing a decent amount of money into reptiles and wanted to work with people who were knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. I want to start by saying the women who work here have consistently been great. They are friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and create a welcoming environment. They are the type of employees who make customers feel comfortable and respected. Unfortunately, my overall experience with this location has been disappointing from a customer service and business standpoint. On more than one occasion, I felt like I was not given the same level of attention or assistance as other customers. I felt overlooked and judged rather than welcomed, which is a terrible feeling to have when you are walking into a business ready to spend your money. During one visit, I also witnessed an interaction involving an older male employee with gauges that was very uncomfortable to watch. A customer was waiting for assistance at the counter, and instead of acknowledging her and helping her directly, he appeared to avoid assisting her and called another customer from behind her to help them first. Watching that interaction was frustrating because every customer deserves to be treated with basic respect and professionalism. I don't know the reason behind these interactions, and I won't assume someone's intentions. However, when customers repeatedly feel ignored, singled out, or treated differently, it creates an environment that does not feel welcoming. It can come across as unfair, and that is something a business should take seriously. I understand what it takes to run a business, and I know customer experience is everything. Customers are the foundation of any successful business, and every person who walks through the door should feel valued,not judged based on appearance, assumptions, or anything else. The women working here are a major positive and are the reason I still appreciate aspects of this store. However, based on my experiences, I cannot recommend this location. I would encourage people to visit other locations where the customer service and atmosphere are more consistently welcoming, respectful, and inclusive. I wish we had stepped in here sooner - Kyra was amazing and I feel so lucky to have had her help. We bought a beardie and a "kit" from the reptile show. Huge ripoff on price but we fell in love. Got home and the kit was nearly useless - the dual light lamp popped both bulbs of UVA and UVB immediately, it came with carpet which is not great, and was overall almost a waste. Kyra was so nice, like beyond nice and genuine about it, too. She took time to give us the rundown on what we'd need and was so patient. Not to mention KNOWLEDGEABLE. I cannot thank her enough. If we would have come here first, we'd of saved over $100 and had expert advice. We will 100% be regulars here and hope they stick around awhile. read more

Stopped in after being a few suites down, to check out The Serpentarium for the forst time. My girlfriend has stopped in ince before a couple days earlier so I figured we could check it out together. The Serpentarium has a good assortment of Reptiles and Amphibians, from beaded dragons to Dart Frogs, to snakes, to Gecko's. Also while having standard pricing and their livestock, they also discounted priced for store members which is pretty cool. read more

I asked for super meal worms. The guy gave me regular sized ones and when i said no i wanted super he said "oh these are normal super meal worms" .... they definitely are not. Pretty disappointed. Bought a avicularia juruensis sling and got home to find it was missing two legs. Immediately called and was told it was fine they'll grow back when it molts. Only to have it die a couple days later. Went in to grab crickets and told the staff who sold it to me and his response was simply oh yeah I don't remember. I'll buy crickets here but wouldn't buy a live animal again. I have 19 other tarantulas slings up to adults who are all fine in the same location (many are avicularia). read more

Ok... this is disappointing for me to make this review since I've been going here for the past 2 years. The staff is very helpful and friendly, however I do not believe they take care of their feeder rats/mice at all. I've had multiple times where I would get a rat that was having diarrhea. And finally one time I said something cause I got a rat with diarrhea for the third time ! And of course my ball python didn't eat any of them probably cause they were sick. This time, I got a live rat, and opened the box, set the rat in my snake's enclosure, and realized inside the box there were crickets? EVERYWHERE !!! Jumping out of the box onto me! Wouldn't be surprised if they are somewhere in my house right now. At first I thought they were a bunch of spiders but I think they're actually crickets?? But they weren't making any noise so I have no clue what these bugs are. I quickly threw the box away outside but came back, and those bugs were all over that poor rat so they were now in my snake's enclosure!!! Been buying dubias here for 2 years for my bearded. Long story short, They sold me a mite infested ball python . He was also attacked by something as he had a huge healing gash below his head when I purchased him. He was in rough shape. He was a normal ball so I didn't notice anything until after a few days he wanted only to soak in his water bowl. We tried everything but the snake was a tiny hatchling and unfortunately just passed. I called and they seemed unbothered. They knew the snake's condition when they sold it to me. I have a heartbroken kid at home because this was her promotion gift. This didn't happen to me, but this location knowingly sold a sick leatherback bearded dragon to a friend of mine about a day ago. The bearded dragon was an adult in a 20 gallon enclosure that was both impacted with infertile eggs and suffered from a respiratory infection. They also had swallowed stones that were found when my friend took this reptile to the vet. Don't endorse this awful store. read more

Jasmyn was AMAZING! Over the top helpful, friendly, extremely knowledgeable, gracious and KIND! We were pet sitting for our daughter/granddaughter's white tree frog and she wasn't looking well. I don't know much about amphibians, but I knew enough to be concerned. I called and immediately Jasmyn said bring her in, and "we'll do a free health check". She was a rock star in helping us. She was actually an answer to prayer (thank you, Jesus) and a huge blessing, as our frog desperately needed the TLC that Jasmyn provided. We have a whole new healthy frog now (see below)! This is one of 3 companies run by Robert Coral. I also think it's important to note that this business has an F RATING with the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. I was attempting to place an order and their website was not working properly and I was unable to check out. I sent multiple emails asking for someone to resolve this. All of my emails were ignored. I then was trying to get basic information about a lamp fixture since they fail to provide the dimensions which are somewhat important when you are building an enclosure. Robert's response was to tell me to take my business elsewhere. I did not realize until later that in fact the same people responsible for ignoring my requests to fix my account to complete an order were the same people who failed to provide the basic information. Instead of apologizing for not having the most basic of information, the broken website or the failure to respond at all about not being able to complete a purchase the response I got was to take my business elsewhere. This is probably the most unprofessional and rude interaction I have ever encountered at anytime with a business that dropped the ball and took no responsibility. I can only say that as a nurse that has been out seeing covid patient's in the community for over a year I am a bit frazzled. Not that this should matter or the fact that I'm also a veteran which they knew but it does speak to the fact that this is not a business I would label as friendly to veterans or essential workers/nurses. I would hope that when my fellow veterans make decisions about purchasing supplies they take into account utilizing businesses that are friendly towards vets. I have honestly never received such a dismissive and unprofessional response from someone in a position of authority in my life. From frontline staff occasionally, but this guy is beyond the pale. Then he threatened to ban me from other businesses as well but they turned out to be 3 different businesses under the same umbrella. In my opinion he has a massive ego and elevated sense of importance to match his poor customer service skills. The other two companies he oversees which I will never do business with under any circumstances is Reptile Supply company and Lugarti. Both based out of Texas. When we do business with companies like this we allow them to feel they have no accountability for even basic customer service. I came in for a general health inspection for my veiled chameleon, they also helped me find the perfect lighting and calcium for my little guy. They have a big variety of feeders available. I am beyond livid. The climbing branch I bought was infested with wood mites--dozens and dozens of eggs embedded in the crevices--as seen in the photo included. I even baked this thing for about an hour beforehand (although I guess not at a high enough temperature) and I feel guilty that I didn't spot these right away, but the fact remains that I bought infected merchandise. This branch was only in my tank for a day before live wood mites were crawling all over my substrate and decor--I had to tear apart my enclosure and disinfect everything! The staff were friendly and helpful but this experience was horrific. I never expected to have an infestation after just shopping for decor :( read more

He definitely has it no question about it. In fear of bringing MORE mites into their shop, I decided to not bring him in. What help would that do? MAKE SURE YOU EXAMINE YOUR REPTILES BEFORE LEAVING WITH THEM! Overall a bad reptile shop and a shop that gives the entire community a bad name(Roseville Location). Emaciated ball pythons morphs in a tank that I doubt now (couples months later) are still alive. Being the only reptile pet store within a 45min drive of me I really wanted them to be good. Most reviews online were good and the fact that they have multiple locations I thought it'd be great. For one nothing was priced as far as décor, bulbs, substrate etc. I did read that they had moved locations so that could've been part of the problem. I found out they also offer 5% off for a positive review so their inflated rating is most likely due to that. I believe at one point they were a quality reptile shop due to word of mouth from several friends years ago but the quality standards have since dropped. I made a lot of excuses for them because I didn't want to come to the realization that without them I'd be without a reptile shop within a reasonable driving distance. Ignored the overwhelmingly potent smell of death when I first walked in, I came in right when they opened. Having worked in a reptile only pet store I know things die, especially when your bringing in wild caught animals things happen. I overlooked the tank of emaciated ball pythons, thinking I know it can be hard to get ball pythons eating and sometimes force feeding is necessary. Even if that was the case they should've kept them out of the sight of the public and not have them available for sale. There was one snake there that I really wanted that looks reasonable healthy, I don't like to nit pick because I feel like that is so common in the reptile community but he was a little under weight nothing overwhelming. I really wanted him but it was close to xmas and didn't want to spend 550$ that close to the holidays. My wife went back and bought him for me. They sexed him and packed him up and she brought him home as a surprise. To my surprise he had mites. I've definitely seen worse but he had many mites imbedded in his scales near the cloaca (where the employee had to look to sex the snake). my wife isn't as into snakes as me so its not something that should be blamed on her. But when I posted my review on google the owner got defensive and came across extremely petty. "He basically said ya right the snake had mites", "why didn't you hold the snake and see the mites and if that was the case why I didn't return the snake" For one dummy unlike you I know how to treat mites and keep them away, two I would never bring an animal back to your hellish store to most likely go untreated and sold to someone who has less knowledge. I initially left a fair review in my opinion considering everything I saw but the childish petty, dummy of an owner got me heated and now I'm making sure my review goes on every site that has reviews for the serpentarium. After that I knew this place was a no go I thought hopefully at the very least the owner or a manager would see my review and do some quality control but all they did was deflect and act like child. Its sad when you can go across the street and find healthier ball pythons at the local petco that literally get there reptiles from snake/lizard mills. The ones there were of healthy weight and were mite free. (for the record I dont support petco) Wish I had the sense to pull my phone out to record some of this so I could show the owner undeniable proof that this was the case. Love this place! Came in for the first time on Tuesday with my juvenile ball python who was having a tough time shedding. I wasn't sure what they could do for me to help her out but when I came into the store, I was greeted and welcomed with open arms. First off these people are always happy as hell when you come in. They are always curious what kind of reptile you have and if you need any advice or anything for it. First time buying a snake I did all my research and they still told me a few tricks. They also helped me shed my snake for the first time And the proper way to do it. The price should have been $1.08, but it came out to $2.16. The cashier took the money from over the counter and when I called over there, it seems like this transaction was never recorded. So I've actually been coming to this location for awhile, but recently I got a python and needed feeder mice and that's where my issue started with this location. The first issue is them always telling me what to feed my snake when I know what my snake will eat since he's still a baby. I don't want mice or rats dying because they keep insisting on what I feed my snake this is a pet store not a clinic for animals reptiles etc. Second issue is I never feel welcomed when people of certain minority walk in or are in the store I hear how they are spoken too versus when I'm their no conversation or care just a unwelcoming attitude to where I feel uncomfortable . Third issue is the state of their mice the last two I got one was sick and dying and had once eye so infected it was swollen shut I am not going to feed that to my snake. I will never go again I'm gonna stick to where I normally go I've never had issues or been questioned like a child or felt uncomfortable and their way too over priced anyways and don't use your credit card they'll check your id like your a criminal with a attitude at that. The store has been going downhill for the last 18 months. Instead of helping customers who are there to purchase items, they chat with people who are just there to talk about their own reptiles. Their feeder selection has gone down dramatically, and they are always out of items. Today my husband bought live feeders and they put a much larger rat in with smaller rats. In the 10 minutes it took to get home, the larger rat had already killed 2 small rats and was attacking the 3rd. Kinda defeats the purpose of LIVE feeders, and now my snakes won't eat.
