Great experience at my first time at The Selftape Creative Studios! James was efficient, helpful, punctual, and supportive. Parking was available in the back. We had 4 scenes - 7 pages, and was able to get through it in 50 minutes for our hour session, which left some room for editing to be done. Felt comfortable and was able to get into character at my pace. I highly recommend. The studio was able to see me in a 48 hour notice which was a great cushion. Just had a great session here today! I used to record here all the time and am back after a long break. The nice gentleman, who helped me with my audition, was very professional, helpful, resourceful, friendly, efficient and supportive! And an excellent reader as well, really helped the energy flow. The entire process was very quick and easy, not a second of my time was wasted. He did all the editing for me on the spot and sent me the materials right away. The only thing I wish was different is to have a chance to wait in the waiting room, practice my lines, fix hair/makeup and generally prep. It used to be this way before but now the policy has changed and I had to wait outside. Aside from that - I had an time and got great results. I know I sound like a commercial, but I'm speaking facts. THE SELFTAPE Creative Studios is owned by Jason Montgomery who is fantastic. Jason use to be a casting director, so he understands what casting is looking for, but he also understands the craft of acting very well. I have literally gone to every self tape place in LA (I'm not kidding) and hands down this is the best place. And of course THE SELFTAPE has copy cats out there so watch out, they're not the same. There are two locations, one in WeHo and one location in The Valley, and both locations are fantastic with industry PROFESSIONALS to work with you, that know what they are doing, in an actual studios space and not someone's apartment. Okay I'm almost done. Working with The SELFTAPE is honestly like taking a private acting class. You will learn so so so much. Your work will really develop. Where do I start?!? This has to have been by far my greatest self tape! As oppose to always self taping with a friend, for this important career changing project, I made the decision to step up my game and have my tape professionally done! Well worth the investment! Jason, the owner who I just met for the first time makes you feel like you've been friends for years! Walks me through the material.. respects my choices however, gave the most amazing feedback to hit blind spots I couldn't see (in a very diplomatic manor.) Did several takes.. allowed me to review... we tackled certain weaknesses that were showing up in my acting (being vulnerable here, lol.) The environment was conducive to a perfect audition space! The equipment was very professional! Used high-end camera not an ipad (lol), lighting was perfect, no distractions, you're own private quiet studio with more than enough space to work. Back drop as well. Jason with massive experience in the casting room knew exactly how to recreate the experience while making you feel beyond comfortable. Didn't rush me and allowed me to take my time. Once we shot a few takes he allowed me to explore several choices and we picked the best take. He slated me once we were done with the scene and even added some tips for that. Finally walked me through exactly what he was editing including the slate. Lastly, took the time to help me upload to casting directly vs rushing home to download and try and upload myself. Not one to leave an extensive review but after this experience it was warranted. I will NEVER self tape on my own again! For those out there serious about booking, it's worth the investment. Don't make the same mistake I've made for years and try to save money by doing it yourself. Once you go through this process you'll never do it yourself again unless you have no choice. I've taped many auditions for TV/Film jobs at this location & I honestly appreciate the quality of service that I'm given each & every time I book an appointment. Michael Galante is easily my fave person to work with when I need to submit a self tape. I've taped with him 7 times. He's a fantastic trained actor with some killer instincts (as far as working the scene is concerned & identifying what's right for you in those moments). He's also a stellar editor with a great eye for what Casting Directors are looking for. Overall, I can't recommend The SELFTAPE Creative Studios enough. I cannot rate the SELFTAPE CREATIVE STUDIO high enough!! The prices charged at The SELFTAPE Creative are totally reasonable. Jason and his staff are not about just running a business. They truly care about the people they work with. They want to see their actors succeed. My son has booked network and lead roles out of The SELFTAPE studio. My first impression of Jason and his studio was when I was in a pinch. My son needed to do a tape and we were in the airport leaving NYC to fly to LA. Jason made arrangements to open his studio for us special and did not charge us more for doing so. I have been to a number of studios who have charged us if they even agreed to open up early or stay a little later. The fact that I had called 7 other studios and Jason was the only one who called me right back said A LOT! There was no question I was going to take my son anywhere else going forward. The SELFTAPE Creative studio has gone above and beyond in more than that one circumstance. The staff have met with my son via phone and skype to rehearse before an audition as early as 7AM and have also figured out ways to make it so we can record across coasts and the tape is as high quality as if we were in the same room. The coaching my son receives at the SELFTAPE is the best. They are real professionals; They know how to coach, act and they know what casting directors are looking for. The studios available at the SELFTAPE have everything you need. They have VR, sound studios and multiple recording studios. The post-production set up has multiple monitors and the tapes are sent directly to casting. I live in NYC and often am in LA with my son. We have been to over 15 self-tape studios and The SELFTAPE is by far the MOST professional. The rates are actually better than most others because there are no additional costs for rush jobs, coaching, etc. How can any complain about this??? I will give this place a 5 star because I love the office a lot and been there for many years now, but I do have a little feedback for small changes that I've been hoping to happen for a long time. The positives is that the selftape room is spacious and you don't feel suffocated as you do at some other selftape studios. The (big) con is that the backdrop is really boring and bleak compared to some other places. Tbh even the lighting and camera can probably get better, but for the love of God change that boring backdrop to something else. And I could be wrong but the camera doesn't seem as sharp and bright as other places I've been too? Or perhaps the camera and lighting is great but it's the backdrop ruining it. If you compare this backdrop to Intrepids backdrop and lighting for instance it's night and day. And it's a pity it's not been changed for so many years, because it's just small adjustments like that that's needed at this point for this already great place. But again, this is a really good place, the staff is very friendly and I still go there over other selftape studios all the time. So I really recommend you do too! read more

THE SELFTAPE is hands down the best self tape service in Los Angeles. Because it is owned and run by a casting director, you will either be reading with Jason himself, or one of his associates--these are not just 'actors' reading with you--every reader/camera operator has worked in casting, so you will have a better opportunity to get the product casting is looking for. I have acted in Los Angeles for 9 years, taped at literally every self tape studio(wanting to explore the options for pricing), own my own taping equipment, and THE SELF TAPE is still my 'go to' when I receive a tape request. Jason and his associates have saved my audition tapes and helped me book work--if you so chose, your 'reader/camera operator' can help direct you with eyelines/actions that can be very challenging to execute in regards of how it reads on camera(the studio does not charge for this help, when other studios do). There are a few self tape studios that have a slightly lower price rate, but it is not worth the few dollars saved--THE SELFTAPE gives you the best product and creates a STRESS FREE environment--there is easily accessible free parking, you don't feel pressured with time in the room and if you have a question/need to communicate, in my experience, their team has always responded to emails within 30 minutes. I've been to Self Tape twice. The first time I went, I taped for a series recurring, and got a callback! So, when I had to tape last minute for a pilot yesterday, I knew exactly where I wanted to go. I had two scenes and was out of there with an awesome tape in about 30mins. I didn't feel rushed at all, I came in prepared and knocked it out. Jason is so kind and makes you feel incredibly comfortable. I was unsure if I was off book but Jason encouraged me to put my sides down and I felt good about it.
