If you are looking to do newborn photos, Laura is the one to go with. There are enough things to worry about and getting some nice newborn photos shouldn't be part of that during this period of your life. I found out about LJ studios through the moms group on FB. I submitted an inquiry on line and pretty much did all communications via emails. Since there is some uncertainty to dates, Laura did a great job of keeping in contact to lock down a day after delivery. Day of, we showed up on time to her studio, which is in a house in the Lindberg park area if you are familiar with Culver City. So lots of parking all over in residential area. She gave us some options for color schemes and looks and whisked the baby away for her shoot. Then before you know if, it's done! She is really good with communicating ETAs and sending previews. Being a (mostly frazzled but let's just say) busy mother of two, I'm writing this review in the dark while my children are asleep. Let's hope they stay snoozing, so I can finally post this review. Truly belated, considering that we booked Laura FOUR times, twice in 2015, then 2017, and once more in 2018. Laura is absolutely the best, truly gifted. With newborn photography, it's not just point and snap snap snap. There's a lot more that goes with it, and somehow Laura does it and then some. Just scroll through the photos here, her website, or other social media. The images just speak for themselves. The sweetest snooze, that dream smile and silly smirk. She photographed my baby's personality even before I knew what it was. Here's the thing though, Laura herself is the gem. She's so easy to communicate with, and she really helps prepare you and the baby for the shoot. She's flexible in scheduling, and really puts the effort to get to know you better. It reflects in her photos. She has an array of blankets, wraps, vintage bowls and crates, and then the cutest little hats and hair accessories. Everything perfectly fuzzy and dreamy. Nothing obnoxious. She has that eye for what works for the baby, and what will make you happy. A little history here, I've booked her initially for a newborn session for my first. It was back in 2015, and she captured amazing shots of my baby girl. Is there no 6 star option?? When my little man was five days old someone asked me, "You're sending out birth announcements, right?" Seeing as this is my first baby, my initial reaction was, "Um, WHAT? That's a thing?!?" This set in motion a panicked search to find a baby photographer who could fit us in at the last minute--the best time to shoot newborns is in the first couple weeks and most [prepared] women book their sessions while they are still pregnant so I was really worried that I'd have to settle for some "Glamour Shots" place at the mall. Laura Jane was fully booked that week (of course), but she gave me some very good advice about picking a photographer and even offered some recommendations--this was very nice of her to spend time to do considering I was not a client. I continued my quest to find another photographer but even after hours of searching none compared to the photos I had seen on Laura Jane's website... Laura responded promptly to our request for information even during the busy holidays and provided us with detailed information on the various packages and options available. She was patient with us as we went back and forth on which photo options would be best to capture our first baby pictures while fitting in our budget. The scheduling flexibility she offered was amazing as she requested we text her when the baby was coming and she fit us in five days later. At first I was nervous about taking our newborn out so young as opposed to an in-home photographer but discovered it was well worth the trip!! They heat the studio to very comfortable temperature for babies in their "birthday suits", successfully keeping them sleepy which absolutely made for the most amazing shots. Additionally, the studio is stocked with hundreds of selections of "props" which the stylist uses to match the decor of your house and the skin tone of your baby. These props are not the kind you would find in a mall photo studio so don't even ask for those cheesy things. Check out their portfolio to see what I'm talking about. Very classy stuff. The stylist and photographer work together amazingly to get the best shots of your little one. Finally, the editing was not something I would have given any thought to until I saw what they can do. Our baby had jaundice and extremely purple extremities when we brought her in, in addition to a nasty scratch on her nose. The labor and delivery was everything I didn't want, starting from the hospital being full (had to go to one I didn't like), the medications I was hoping to avoid, to the surgery that left me weak and drained. We hired Laura to do our newborn baby photography, and it was the best decision we could have made! I had made arrangements to use Laura when I was about 30 weeks pregnant, but then I ended up going into labor at 33 weeks. Even though I had made arrangements for working with Laura in early October, she was graciously flexible and we did the shoot in early September instead. Pros of working with Laura: 1. She is fantastic with communication. Photography with your newborn can be stressful (for us, it was the first time our baby was out of the house for non-doctor appointments), and working with Laura made me feel like we were in good hands, which we were. She was very prompt with email communication and phone communication as well. 2. Her photography is GORGEOUS. Just look at her website yourself. Her pictures are amazing, and everyone I shared them with has absolutely loved the work. She is a true professional and her shots are amazing. 3. She knows newborns and how to handle them as photography subjects. Our baby was not quite a newborn, being 3 weeks already when we took him for pictures, and that day he was extra fussy. That said, Laura's studio was made for newborns. It's warm and cozy and she has a lot of white noise machines to soothe her subjects. Our son miraculously calmed down and she got some great shots. 4. She has good pricing. Even though we went with the high-end package (we couldn't help ourselves, the photos were just too good) her rates are reasonable for what you're receiving. Don't get me wrong, it's not cheap, but neither is the quality of her work, and it's good to know you'll get amazing results. It truly is an investment. Considerations: There really weren't any cons with working with Laura, so I'm calling this Considerations instead: 1. Allergies. Laura's studio is in her home and they do have a cat. This wasn't a problem for me since we also have a cat, but my mother in law came with us and she has really bad cat allergies. It's not like there was evidence of the cat everywhere and it wasn't super noticeable (I only knew because I could hear the cat in the back room) but it's going to be evident to anyone with allergies, so just a heads up! 2. Dress for warmth. Since the studio is kept warm to keep the newborns warm, you will also be very warm. Make sure to dress lightly so you're not toasty when waiting during the shoot. Overall, I highly recommend Laura's work. She's fantastic! read more

My family and I had a wonderful experience with Laura Jane Studios, and our baby pictures turned out beautifully! I initially reached out to her prior to the pandemic to sign up for a newborn shoot. Well, my son was born right at the beginning of the pandemic as things were shutting down, so we decided to postpone the shoot until things were safer. Laura Jane was very accommodating and flexible throughout this process, and helped us time our no-longer-newborn baby shoot so that he could be sitting independently for photos, but before he was too mobile (since crawling babies aren't the most compliant photo subjects!). We ended up getting his photos done just around the 7-month mark, and even though I wish we had Laura Jane's beautiful newborn shots, I love these pictures so much I'm almost glad we had to postpone! (Also, waiting 7 months made me realize that I actually wanted to add a couple of family shots to our package, which I didn't initially plan on. But it was *definitely* worth the upgrade -- like many moms, I do most of the household photo-taking, and as a result have many lovely pictures of my husband and baby but no decent ones with me in them ...) Also, I wanted to note that Laura Jane Studios felt about as COVID-safe as a photo studio possibly can. She moved her photo studio outdoors (under a tent), so we could hang around with much more ease. She also was thoughtful enough to wear both a mask and a face shield, which I imagine is no easy feat as a photographer! We first brought our newborn baby daughter in when she was less than a week old and got the most amazing photographs of her and our family. I highly recommend Laura for newborn photography! She is an extremely talented photographer. And she has a very calm and sweet personality which definitely is a must for this type of photography. She has a ton of different backgrounds/poses/props that you can choose from when you arrive for your session. Since we were completely exhausted at the time of the shoot (our baby girl was only 4 days old), she helped recommend different ones that are the most popular. And then we chose the types of colors that we want for backgrounds and props. This review is long overdue - simply put, Laura Jane is the best. I began researching newborn photographers while I was still pregnant. Expecting twins, I wanted to find someone who had experience photographing them. I fell in love with Laura's photos the moment I saw them. She is able to capture them in a way that is so natural - that is what drew me to her work. She doesn't use props as crutches like other photographers do... She makes babies look like babies, as they should. After contacting her, I let her know of my due date and she penciled me in. As the date got closer, we set up a time to discuss the shoot. We talked about what I liked, what I didn't like, and she took notes of everything so she wouldn't forget anything on the day of. She also made suggestions and asked questions so she could really get the feel for what I was looking for. As expected, my twins came early - 5 weeks early. Laura was still easy to work with, even with my son in the NICU without us knowing when he would be discharged. As soon as we brought him home we contacted Laura and set up a date for the shoot. On the day of, everything was perfect. Laura was professional, and her love for babies and her work really showed. She painstakingly set up each shot with an eye for detail I could never have. It was amazing to watch. I can't remember how long our shoot was set up for, but I do remember that she did stay longer than the allotment which was very kind of her. The consultation to pick out photos went just as smoothly. We sat down and she had put together a selection of photos that she thought we would like. Again, her eye for detail came in handy. She helped us pick out photos and pointed out the nuances between each one... all the way down to how the fingers and toes were positioned. Without her help I wouldn't have even been able to narrow it down. I couldn't be happier with our photos. They were more than I ever expected. I still go back to look at the all the time - she just captured them so beautifully. I think the best way to articulate how good she is is to say that not only would I recommend her to shoot my friends' newborns, but I have already done so. Laura is a wonderful newborn photographer! She took our first son's photos and we loved her work so much that we had to book her again when our second son was born. She made sure to reference the photographs of our first son and was thorough about making sure she incorporated any new poses or color schemes. Laura's newborn photography is beautiful. We purchased a package of 30 photographs and I honestly can't even pick my favorite one. Our experience at her studio was beyond pleasant. Once we arrived I nursed him (she made this very comfortable) and then after that she took it from there. My husband and I rested while she and her assistant did everything - even diaper changes during the shoot! We will definitely be back again when we have our next baby. read more
