The sausage is conecuh which I could've gone without for that extra $5 and the snow crab legs had very little meat but everything overall was tasty. I would definitely recommend the Dungeness crabs because they had a lot of meat. They had my food ready and waiting for me after placing an online order. This is the Seafood King's second location. The original is on Lakeshore Parkway in Homewood, and this location is in Hoover. It is in the strip mall next to Shonos and Dale's. Same menu as the original, the Seafood King specializes in steamed seafood served in a bag of seasonings and spices. I usually get a 1/2 pound of shrimp and always order the King seasoning and medium spice. It a nice portion that comes with a potato and corn on the cob. One of my secrets is to order a side of rice. The rice is perfect for mixing with the delicious seasoning. I'm a fan of the King, and recommend you give it a try. read more

A group of us (6) decided to have lunch at this new location. We were seated immediately. Our waitress Keke came over and took our drink orders. I'd checked into Yelp and realized that I got a free app! Keke and I both encouraged thr other ladies to review with Yelp! #winning We got the lemon pepper chicken wings! They came out fresh from the grease and were well cooked and seasoned. Keke came to take our orders, she did a great job explaining to the newbies and answering questions that we had. While we waited, she brought out lots of condiments so that we'd be ready when the food arrived. I knew I would be trying the new Seafood King location in Hoover soon. Yesterday presented the perfect opportunity for me to go with my family. This location is in the shopping center with Hobby Lobby off HWY 31 in Hoover. There is plenty of parking so we found a spot easily. As we walked in, the hostess (Amber) greeted us very warmly! She made small talk with my kids and complimented my hair so things definitely got off to a good start. We were sat at a booth and our waiter (Carlos) greeted us and took our drink orders. I noticed right away that the napkin holder had a sign that said if Yelp Elite members write a review, they will receive a free appetizer and 10% off their meal. I will be taking advantage of that on my next visit. Also, if you check-in on Yelp, you get a free appetizer. We used that offer to try their calamari. It was good and it was hilarious to me that my youngest son thought they were onion rings. I decided on a 1/2 pound of Snow Crab Legs with double potatoes and boiled eggs. The heat level for my broil was hot and I decided on the King sauce. Our waiter brought out a bucket with our bibs, gloves, and wet napkins. After we ordered our food, we received it in a decent amount of time. My food was really good. The heat level was actually kind of spicy to me, which was great because at the other location, I ordered the same heat and sauce and it wasn't spicy. This place has been on my list for a while! My husband and I went in on Sunday. Facility: The restaurant is spacious - very relaxed, comfortable atmosphere (jeans are fine). The decor is colorful. Cool mirals. They have a bar in the center of the restaurant that seemed to have all the basics. The aroma is fishy but Duh! Lol! Food: I ordered the combination shrimp and crab legs, which came with a 1/2 ear of corn and 1 med sized red potatoes. I chose this sauce.. I think it was called king sauce. I really enjoyed my dinner here. I got combo B which was shrimp, crab legs, corn, hush puppies and a potato. The seafood was really fresh and I loved the taste. You got a good amount of both. I ate all the crab legs and even had some shrimp leftover to take home. In fact, so much seafood that I couldn't even eat my corn and potato. It arrived quickly but was lukewarm at best. They are big and meaty. I'm sure they would have been good had they been served fresh out the grease. Where to start, we came here on a Saturday night to meet friends for dinner. The first thing I noticed was there is no adult beverages. To start we ordered the calamari as our app, the came out in a decent amount of time. I actually only at 2 of the rings, the breading had absolutely no flavor at all. The dipping sauce they give you is good and I guess that is why there is no seasoning.. for those of us that like the food to stand on its own are not impressed with having to use sauce for any flavor. Now on to the main course, I usually do fried but since the app had no flavor I decided to go with the lobster and head off shrimp boil. I ordered it with garlic butter and should have told them that is all I wanted. I did say mild so they did put the Cajun seasoning in the bag. It was good but not really my cup of tea. The lobster was ok but cut very strange and hard to get out. The shrimp was cooked good and required a little work as the shell and some legs were on them. The corn in the bag is very soft and pretty good. I do not care for potatoes so I did not try that. Staff were very friendly and helpful The sauces were fantastic (and I suspect the only things that were actually made at the restaurant) That's it people. That's all that was great. The bad.... or maybe just unfortunate... The shrimp, oysters, and catfish were WAY over breaded. And not hand breaded. These were clearly frozen, but otherwise not too bad, but not great. This is one of the best seafood spots I've found in Birmingham. I normally order the same thing - boiled black mussels, sausages, and shrimp. You choose the seasoning/spiciness and it comes out in a clear bag that you pour onto a large bucket. We got gloves and a bib so we can dig in without making a mess. Seafood King's chocolate cake is the bomb too. I definitely didn't expect it but it was UNREAL. Fried oysters are super good. Just everything is perfect. My Crab Bag tour continues with a trip to The Seafood King. Good news: I was able to place my order online. Bad News: the Combo I wanted to order wasn't available for online order. Good news: When I picked up my food I was told that next time I could call in my order and ask for the combo I wanted. Good news: When I got to the Seafood King I waited only a couple of minutes when the cashier came out from the kitchen carrying two bag of food and one of them was mine. Bad news: the bag she handed me wasn't the bag that was mine, but I didn't find that out until I got home and discovered that instead of crab legs, shrimp potatoes, corn and sausage, it had crab legs, shrimp and hard*boiled eggs. No taters, no sausage. Good news: I don't always eat the corn anyway, and while I would miss the taters and sausage, I now had the chance to sample the hard-boiled eggs in the cajun sauce. Hard boiled eggs are pretty darn good in cajun sauce. Bad News: I ordered the King sauce (lemon pepper, plus cajun sauce, plus garlic butter plus King Sauce), all with MILD level of heat because I'm a big baby. I'm not 100% sure which sauce I got but I am one thousand percent sure that the heat level was off the charts. I finished eating half an hour ago and I'm still dying. Good News: I'm still dying, but it was good crab legs and shrimp. I wanted my taters and sausage tho, and the tasty, hard-boiled eggs don't change that. Next time I'll check the receipt before I life. Yeah, there'll be a next time. Most of the shrimp were cooked perfectly but a few were overdone. That, and the food mix-up costs them a couple stars, but I'm pretty sure my next visit up crank them back up to at least a 4, if not a 5 star review. I have had Door Dash deliver Seafood King from Hwy 31 multiple times now. As I'm sure many of you are, at first I was skeptical of getting crab legs delivered and them still tasting good. However, I am here to assure you that the boil bag keeps them hot for delivery. Seafood King also went a step above to give the whole experience with bibs and gloves. This most recent time I ordered was for my mom and I and it was her first experience with Seafood King. She was very impressed (she got the butter garlic flavor with no spice). In this case, the shrimps were not fresh to the extent that some of them were mushy.. and also the potato was pretty undercooked as well. I recognize that I have a high standard for restaurants. I don't eat at chains much and I have expectations of new restaurants when they open these days. I expect you to recognize that tastes in alcohol have changed. Miller and Coors just won't cut it. Neither will bottom shelf booze. You just opened, you should be bending over backwards to provide swift and courteous service. Our drinks took forever and were not great as I mentioned, then we waited 45 mins for our food only to ask and be told they forgot to put our check in. 15 mins more after that before food was delivered, on styrofoam plates... They offered us a free dessert that we did not want and then nothing further. I had the fried seafood sampler. I found the batter to be bland and lacking good texture. But my girlfriend got the steamed seafood platter and enjoyed it. That is the only thing keeping them from a 1 Star review. This was our first time eating here. It was me and my two kids. 13 & 22. We went on a Saturday night around 6:30 pm. We were seated right away. There was no waiting. Once seated we were brought the menus and the lady went over the menu with us and explained how the dinners came, which was helpful. Shortly after our waitress came and took our order. I ordered shrimp and black mussles (boiled) with mild seasons and garlic butter. My son ordered the same except with green mussles. My daughter had the snow crab (1lb) and we ordered fried calamari for an appetizers ( which you get for free if you do a review on yelp). The fried calamari was very good. But our dinners were just ok. My son and I both thought they were very heavy handed on the seasoning. It was kind of over powering. My daughter enjoyed the crab legs but they did not bring crab crackers with her meal. Waitress said that they didn't have any clean (??) I would think you would have the proper silverware to eat with( had to ask for forks as well as they did not bring them to the table before or with the meal). Needless to say we probably won't be back. Mainly because the food was just mediocre. We did get our appetizer for free for doing the review and also received 10% off our bill. The 10% off is supposed to be for posting a picture with the selfie wall (which we did not do). So if we would have paid full price and paid for the appetizer, it would have not been worth it in my opinion.
