This place is not worth the trip. The wait on line is like 3 hours long. It seems as though they could do a better job moving people through the attractions but they just don't. I'm standing in the hayride line now because it's been too long to leave and the kids want to hang in there. I could have done without this place. The chamber wasn't all that great. I got here at 7 and 3.5 hours later still here tired waiting in line. Never again nor would I recommend to anyone. read more

Yes! This was so fun! And get fast pass, if it is in your budget. I mean, I could take off a star because I wish it was larger, but they sold it as having 3 major attractions and they have 3 great attractions, so my wishing they had more is just a wish. The frightening things are real people in character and some loud noises, smells, and non-organic things (think air compressor) touching you. I would recommend going in the same order we did. Start with the hayride. If you're braver, sit closer to the back of the trailer. Expect to be startled several times. One note I would say here is that the ride "back" is long and uneventful and a nice touch would be to fake breaking down and have characters slowly surround the vehicle but then they wouldn't be able to process as many people through the long line. The fast pass is super helpful here. After the hayride, go to the Karnevil, which is an inside maze where you'll be repeated startled and frightened. It is dark in places and some flashing lights, so if that isn't your jam, go enjoy a funnel cake and don't get a ticket for this. After Karnevil, go to House of Horrors, which is similar to Karnevil, but larger and more intense. The characters get very much in your personal space. Some startle you and others are creepy and you know they're coming and you don't want them to and yikes! We went on a Thursday night and with the fast pass, we wanted no more than 30 minutes in total in all three of the lines. (of course, if EVERYONE buys fast passes, that will no longer be the case) There isn't a lot of food from which to select. Think the same types of small buildings that the fair has: one with funnel cakes and ice cream, another with hot dogs, burgers, sausages and fries, and another with beer and liquor. For little kids, there isn't much to do. There is a puzzle room which is like an enclosed trailer and there is a merchandise trailer with masks and things. The scream zone was a total let down this year. Rather than lots of awesome theme rooms, like every year in the past, there were mostly just dark hallways with people jumping out and grunting in your face and following you. The lines were painfully long and slow. Even the midway was a let down. It was very small, and there were no games or vendors, except for one with a few cheesy souvenirs, not to mention a small cup of coors light for $13! I'm not sure if there are new owners, but I'm VERY sad to say that after going every year for 10 years, I won't be going back, it was terribly disappointing and not worth the drive or the money. read more

This place is amazing. I honestly like these small attractions better then the bigger name one (knotts, universal, or six flags). I like these because the lines are a lot smaller. everything is cheaper and the groups in which you go in with to the maze are a lot smaller then the big name attraction. This is the perfect spot for Halloween fun! I love the variety of experiences here. Hayride was my favorite! Either I had the best seat on that ride or the actors are THAT good! After being on our feet all night long, it was a great change of pace! The staff was super friendly all night long which goes a long way in my book! RUDEST STAFF OF ALL TIME. Could not believe this place. Told me I had to throw away my Donald trump mask I was wearing. Told my friend she had to do the same thing with her baby mask. Sadly, I have to agree with he previous two reviews. We had reservations for 8 and didn't get in until 10. We were in one line in the beginning and and a security guard started telling everyone that we could make two lines, so of course the people from behind rush forward, It was very frustrating to have people skip ahead after waiting for so long. Cars were arriving for a concert at the same time as we were and we literally got to watch and listen to the entire thing from our car. That's how long the wait was. I can forgive the less than awesome experience because you are in the car and its difficult to be scared in your own car. Is it entirely necessarily for the security guards to walk in front of the actors who are trying to scare you? Kind of kills the mood. All and all, I only spent $25 for opening night, so I can't be too mad. Having said that, they better step up their game fast if they expect people to start paying the big bucks tonight! read more

Just got through it and although the sets were really good, sound tracks were great, organized well....there weren't enough people coming out to scare you! One maybe two people jumping out at cars that's it. The few they had were good actors but please double the number or even triple it then it'll be fantastic. I won't go again. read more

My first haunt of the season was Savage House in La Mesa. Screamzone just doesn't compare. Screamzone wasn't scary at all... It was rather cheesy. All of the actors just get in your face and either blow in your ear or breathe their hot breath in your face. It's disgusting. One screamed in my face and my face got showered with spit. The sets had random decorations and beasts in places that made no sense. The hayride had maybe 3 actors until you get to the doll row where there were tons of them. Overall, super cheesy. Good for small children maybe. I would definitely recommend Savage House in La Mesa over Screamzone. Super scary and far cheaper. read more

ticket scanner last night 10/28 was extremely rude and ruining the whole experience for everyone. she was picking and choosing who to scream at and got mad i went under one rope to get to the group i was with (because we were separated in the process of walking though) cutting zero people might I add . She then makes me get out of line and go back to the start resulting in me walking through a bunch of empty lines to... get to the exact same spot in the back where i was before? Before this she was screaming and threatening to call security which I genuinely thought was a joke and part of the act because why would anyone act like that normally and be so angry for no reason. 10 minutes later while waiting in line security comes over and decides to go over all of the rules with my group as if we were a group of rowdy middle schoolers. I'm just really shocked that the workers here are lame fun sponges i always thought that the people that worked at these types of things were supposed to be cool. No idea why your staff is making everyone's experience awful from the very start. if you are gonna have someone working who is extremely rude and nasty then maybe have them be part of the attraction. With COVID ruining everything I have to admit the drive thru Scream Zone had me a bit skeptical. I was the driver to a full car and will admit it was really well done. The drivers are pretty much left alone (Don't want to panic someone and have them hit the gas). Watching these guys scare the hell out of my friends made my year. The beginning was really fun. A lot of the actors interacted with everyone. There was even a soundtrack to play in your car for each themed station. The animatronics were well done as well. The only down side was that the energy pretty much petered out at the end even though the sound track was pumping intense music. But over all I would definitely come again next year. read more

All things considered: they killed it. I visited the urban legends haunt up in Orange County and was very disappointed. But scream zone took drive thru to a whole new level. Getting to drive thru sets with live actors interacting with every car was awesome. Was a little bit of a wait to get in however it was worth it. This is my favorite haunt in San Diego county. There are 3 haunts and always at a reasonable price. The scares are great and fun! I always love coming every year. They also serve alcohol which is awesome. The alcohol is expensive but it is everywhere so I'm not complaining. The hayride is always full of laughs and the decorating is so awesome! Every year they change the theme so you never know what to expect. Then the two haunted houses are always scary and full of great classics as well as relevant scares. The spinning bridge at the end of one of the houses is so trippy. Love it! read more

Our group of 16 individuals attended Scream Zone last night...Never Again!! We waited 3 hours in line from 8:30pm to 10:45pm just to attend the hayride. Was it worth it? "No".... I agree with the previous comments...it is a nice size venue close to home that is family friendly , with free parking and moderately priced attractions. I can see returning when the lines are 30 minutes or less. Other than that, there is much opportunity to make the Hayride scarier, more themes carried throughout the ride to avoid "dead silences", and more actors walking around the grounds engaging the attendees that are just walking around or standing in lines. Karni Evil was a joke. It is a tiny maze that is over in 5 minutes or less. We ended up being able to go through the maze right after the hayride... because it was empty...and close to midnight! I was concerned that the lines were so long we would not be able to get in all the rides we paid for...we paid for 2 and got on 2.....I am confident that because of the long lines we would not have been able to do all 4 rides...is the fast pass probably worth it? I would say yes, in theory however, the content of the scare needs much more improvement. Do not compare this to Griffith Parks LA Hayride, or Universal Studios or Knotts Scary Farm.....you will be massively passed and disappointed. read more

HOUSE OF HORRORS IS GOOD... but I only experienced 20% of it. I took two 9 yr old boys, who INSISTED they knew that the monsters and ghouls would be regular people in makeup. Well, I should have listened to my intuition, and paid more attention to the "not recommended for children below 10" warning on their website. The boys ended up crying in fear, and insisted in using the first emergency exit. One boy ran about 100 yards before i could even find him. From the little bit of the house of horrors we got through, the House of Horrors seemed very well done, and actually a bit scary for this old dude (me). The 9 yr old girl that went before us did fine. (We all know that girls really are more mature than boys). I will go back sans kids, to see how it really goes for me. DO NOT TAKE kids under 10 in the House of Horrors. IMHO. read more

I notice that most of the negative reviews on here have to do with the long wait times. That is taken care of easily by not going on a Friday or Saturday night. If you do choose those high traffic nights then you will be in line for the two major attractions for an hour or two. You can purchase a fast pass for $10 that sends you to the front of the line. We were told that the chamber had a two hour wait, but it was more like 45 minutes, but the hayride was an hour and a half. In terms of the attractions, they are very effective, frightening, inventive and well put together. Most of the actors deliver terror with great zeal. They can't touch you, but it certainly doesn't stop them from blowing on your neck (ewww) and targeting you if you act either too nonchalant or too frightened. The Chamber (the large walk through haunted house) was a very good value, and it felt like an eternity walking through. There was a good variety of scenes and an area of utter darkness, which is frightening all in itself. The hayride is lots of fun, and you can sneak into the middle of the tractor and be a bit safer from the scares and really be able to take everything in. They have everything from a zombie militarized zone to a demented hillbilly rife back water hicktown and a twisted carnival complete with clowns on stilted roller skates. The headless horseman on an actual horse is pretty darn awesome. The other plus about this place is that they have fair food and a bar, so that you can drink liquid courage as you wait in line. Waste of time and money. Took my girlfriend and parents here for the Haunted Hayride and it was really boring. I was literally left in shock when I found out it was over because it lasted like 15 minutes and half the time was crusing through stupid buildings. No fog, barely any strobe lights, poor decor. Do you remember that scene in Aladdin where Aladdin firsts asks Jasmine, "Do you trust me?" What would've happened if Jasmine hadn't trusted him??? Well, that movie may have ended quite differently. So I'm going to ask you, lovely but sheltered princess Jasmine, to figuratively jump off a roof with me, your favorite hardcore-parkour street rat, and trust that I have only your interests in mind. This place sucked. I know that's taking a giant gazelle-like leap, but the scariest part of this "haunted" fairground is the hole that's left in your wallet after you pay out your caboose for the full "experience". This place was FILLED with WTF moments: 1) If there is a hell, the line for the haunted hayride must at least be some form of purgatory. The line is filled to the brim with 12-15 year old Justin Beibers cat-clawing their way into a space in line; the beginning of the line is hell as you try to push your way through and insist that you have definitely been in line long enough to be in front of this person or that couple, etc. Then you stand uncomfortably between chatty Kathys or smooching Sara and Steve until you find yourself moving half an inch per half an hour. It's the perfect setup for the Scream Zone to promote further highway robbery: $10 per person for a letter of indulgence into the VIP line, thus detracting your time in purgatory. But the hayride is a complete letdown. WTF???? Honestly, it would be more worth your time and money to drive all the way to Griffith Park to experience the LA Haunted Hayride. At least LAHH isn't filled with awkward silences, lack of scenery, and zombies that couldn't scare a cat. 2) The Chamber takes two seconds. But you still pay at least 9 of your valuable dollars to go in it. WTF. 3) The House of Horrors was the best part of the experience. The line was much more alleviating on my body and my sanity, even at 11:30 at night. There were some good rooms set up, but nothing that I haven't seen before. Except for the ringmaster who thought I looked hot enough to get up on a pole in the middle of the circus-themed maze. And the gorilla that soon followed. WTF??????? I'm pretty sure John Murdy, creative director of Universal's HHN, would be laughing his ass off at the sight of such noob-ness. I want to start off saying that the mazes and hayride were amazing BUT this place could use some improvements. When you walk in, there's a DJ playing techno- but weird, old songs that seem to be playing in a loop. If they replaced the DJ with creepy music, smog machines everywhere and actors running around scaring people, the place would be so much better. And the line for the haunted hayride was ridiculously long. Waiting 45 minutes to sit on the hayride was not ideal, to say the least. However, once you actually get on, the themes, decorations and actors were amazing! However, the mazes were my favorite part. I'd recommend going in order from the Korn maze to the larger maze (forgot the name) because it goes from scary to ridiculously scary. The mazes included everything from mirrored rooms, to shaking grounds, graveyard themed rooms and more. I've been to nearly every scary maze in Los Angeles and I have to say this topped them all! Their website made it sound like the attractions were longer than they were and much spookier. SUCH A WASTE OF MONEY. Me and my boyfriend left thoroughly upset and disappointed. We had a lot of fun last night! It was incredibly short for the price we paid, but we laughed and screamed and had a good time. I am not writing this review about the entertainment, because even if it was a bit pricey, it was a good couple of hours of fun. What I'm writing about is our experience with the food. DO NOT EAT THE FOOD THERE. Out of four of us that ate at the place that was serving hot dogs and nachos, three of us are sick today. The fries were undercooked and served in a puddle of grease, the hot dogs were pre-cooked (warm only on the outside and cold on the inside on a cold bun), we ordered a serving of garlic fries which was literally just fries with a cup of chopped garlic dumped on top and threw it out because it was so disgusting that no one would eat it. My fiancé had the nachos, and they were just store-bought chips with watered down cheese poured on them. Absolutely terrible. And on top of it, the man at the window was incredibly rude. He kept turning away to watch TV while we were trying to order, and when time came to pay (25$ for terrible food that we ended up throwing out after eating half of it), he was so busy watching TV that I stood there for literally five minutes, waiting to give him the money. After taking it, he turned back to the tv, then looked back at us, and said, "What are you waiting for?". He hadn't given us half of the food that we'd ordered. Seriously the worst service and the worst food I have ever experienced, and the fact that I can't eat anything today because of it is just the cherry on the sundae. read more

So my boyfriend and I get to the Scream Zone at around 9pm. It closes at 12 and so we thought we had enough time to do the "triple haunt" but NO. There was not even enough time to do one haunt. So we go inside and wait in line for the hayride which was over 3 hours long. The people at the ticket booth did not tell us that there was over a 3 hour wait. Scream Zone is fun! I was a volunteer actor once and have gone through the attraction years since then. So I can say on both sides they do well at training their actors on boundary lines, telling them examples of what is going too far to be scary to ensure that everyone has the best experience.
