If you are able local in town, you might know this old gathering place. If you are comic fan, you probably love this hole in the wall store. Being that is place resides within the ultimate setting. Man, I want to gives this a better review, cuz the owner is such an awesome, helpful, and chill dude. But the condition of his space and organization of his inventory prevents it. I was just in browsing while I was on vacation. They had very few current issues, and no back issues, but he did have a lot of long and short boxes laying around the floor that were not organized in anyway to be gone through. The stuff he did have on display, was very cool. In the horror corner he had vintage issues of magazines like Fangoria, rue morgue, and some other titles I can't remember the name of. Part of his "store" he has improv shows in, put on by locals and broadcast on the internet. And is doing game of thrones final season episode premieres with the same space for customers to come in and watch. Solid dude, solid customer service, he just doesn't have the typical things I look for when I'm out at comic shops. If I was back in town I would stop in again to see what his space looks like when he isn't using it as a movie theatre or performance stage. I may have just popped in on an off day (but my instincts tell me I didn't). read more

This was kinda scary. It's in total disrepair. There was a sign saying excuse our mess or something but it didn't look like this was a new situation. He blocked off the sci-fi stuff with a moving dolly and the comic section was a mess. I didn't see a stage. Very little was open and he seemed concerned we came in even though his open sign was flashing open. It was not a pleasant experience. I hope it is just temporary. read more

I came to the Sci-Fi Center to see a play in the small theatre in the back of the store. While I was waiting for the house to open, I looked at some of the things they sold. A fair number of DVDs of various sci-fi movies, sci-fi comic books, and many figures from the Walking Dead. I had no idea who the characters are but they have them. The theatre in the back is less than 50 seats so, yes, you would call it an intimate theatre. No bells and whistles--just some theatre style seats, five rows deep and four on each side of an aisle. The seats are mounted on some risers so there's a good view of the stage. For this performance, a curtain was drawn across the front to cover the white screen used for showing sci-fi movies. For this play, that was more than adequate. Periodically there are small plays mounted here and now that I've been here, I won't hesitate to come back! Some reviewers mentioned a stage and screenings. That doesn't appear to exist anymore. This is mostly a book/comic book store. There may be toys and some other pop-culture stuff. The reason I say that there may be toys and other stuff is because, as other reviews mentioned, this store is a bit of a mess as of this writing. Parts of it are inaccessible do to remodeling. The reason I give it such a good review is that the owner is super nice and very knowledgeable. He is working hard to improve the place. I am a comic book reader and he has a very nice selection of comics at fair prices. He also has a good selection of Star Wars and Star Trek books. Great selection of Blade Runner merchandise. He is expanding his selection of independent comics. It is a small store but if you are in the area it is definitely worth visiting or giving him a call to see if he has what you need. read more

I went here for the first time to watch a premier that was offered as an "event" for free. There is a small foyer area that has a comic book display to the right and a button wall to the left, along with a long counter island with more merchandise and it serves as a check out counter as well. There is a large back room that upon entering to the right consists of a makeshift staging area with a sheet backdrop and about five rows of chairs, and to the left more comic books and misc. merchandise. It looks as if he is still in the process of organizing and setting up shop at this location. Being it's my first time here I don't want to presume anything. I would hope however that the place will get better organized and presentable to the public. I'm not into comic books so I cannot comment on the merch or prices. I simply went for the premier. About a dozen people were at the premier as well. After looking at other pictures posted, he occasionally has some sci fi "guest stars" at his store for book signings. It is small and in need of some decorating and organization TLC. I hope him the best of luck getting his business in order at this new"ish" location. read more

What a fun little spot for locals. I had been to there older location in commercial center years ago and came here for the Bad Alice play the other night. The play was crazy, ridiculous, and had me laughing at all their nonsense and bad acting. I loved it! You can buy snacks and sodas before you go in for a very reasonable prince. The Sci Fi center itself I feel needs a little work. It is extremely hard to find at night. I took an Uber and we all had trouble spotting it and almost missed the turn into the parking lot. They need a larger sign or something! When you walk in though you have an awesome collection of comics and other fun stuff to look at. I was late for the play so I rushed in and didn't get a chance to look at everything like I wanted. Next time! The one real complaint I have about the theatre is the seating. I'm 5'3 and my friend is 6ft and neither one of our feet touched the floor. We sat in the second row two on the last two seats. It made it extremely uncomfortable to sit in the chairs. My feet were dangling above the ground and when it was finally time to get up my back and legs were honestly killing me. Maybe the other seats were better if I go to another play I'll get there earlier to get a better spot. Overall it's a fun little spot and if you have never been there you should at least check it out once. read more

So much fun! The Sci-Fi Center is located in Commercial Center (in the back building called New Orleans Square), upstairs, and faces north towards the parking lot. Inside, they have a screening room/stage where they air movies, hold weekly screenings (such as Game of Thrones), have shows such as burlesque, and SO MUCH MORE! I had to follow their Facebook page to keep up with all the events they have going on. I love going here because conversations always pop up about the latest greatest, with staff AND other customers. They're always super friendly and knowledgeable about all things pop culture (comic books, movies, and more!). read more

Small nondescript storefront- other than the exterior signage, no indication of what was inside this place. They would probably get more traffic if they added some sort of window display, but they seem to get most of their visitors from various presentations and screenings. Storefront area is small, with a variety of books, art, DVDs, and action figures representing various TV and movie series- selection does not appear to be particularly curated or even specifically focused on science fiction. First, let me start off by saying, William is an awesome guy. His love of Science Fiction pales in comparison to his love of LA Kings hockey. We bought a few items including a piece by a local artist depicting my girl "Michonne" from The Walking Dead. They also sell comics, dvd's and action figures. They also have a small theater and they have screenings (like Game of Thrones episodes) which is awesome for tourists without certain chanels in their hotel. Cool place and cool guy running things, this place is definitely worth a visit. UPDATE: We drove off without my dog's water bowl. William called us to tell us that so we turned around and picked it up. He even came out to hand it off to us. Brandon D. and I were in town during the Red Viper vs. The Mountain That Rides match-up on "Game of Thrones." We figured, hey, this is a betting town known for having a place to watch just about any major televised event, so we looked into screenings. Unless there are bars that were just playing it, unadvertised, Sci-Fi Center was the only one we found showing the big fight that night. It was one of those events you want to see around a lot of people, getting their reactions at once, as it adds to the experience. Sci-Fi Center was a small comics shop with about half the space taken up by their black box theater. We watched the episode while sitting in the movie theater-style seats (some sat on couches) and what looked like sheet hanging on the far wall. It looked like it could stand an ironing. The episode was played off of someone's HBO Go account, and it kept arbitrarily stopping. I imagine this was from all the people out there watching the episode at the same time. Watching it with a room full of geeks in Vegas had the effect was I looking for with everyone getting amped up and excited at all the right parts. It was a good group. Once it was over, everyone flooded into the hall to discuss what they saw and how it fit with the book. Honestly, there wasn't much to the rest of the shop (at least, not while we were there). They had wire racks of magazines and a display case with collectibles that also served at the concession stand. The popcorn was pretty good. The guy behind the counter joked we should come out there more often for our Wednesday comics. It's the home-base for the a geek community in Vegas, and that's why it's worth a decent rating from me. It features a modest screening room, where you can see everything from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, to The Human Centipede, to even Blazing Saddles. It isn't meant to be an experience that is akin to a Regal Cinemas. It is meant to be a throwback to the Grindhouse days of yore. If you're looking for comics, graphic novels, toys, or even some obscure DVDs, you can find them here as well. The Sci-Fi Center has a fun and refreshing atmosphere that stands out from the rest of the valley. It's a great place to stop into if you have the misfortune of not having a gambling addiction here. If you miss watching movies as a kid at your best friend's house, this place is it. William is a considerate and nice guy who really cares about your experience. I am not a sci-fi buff but have come to learn much about the genre through the center. The viewing area is comfortable and the screen is theater size. I love the popcorn and there are other snacks available as well. Special events like Rocky Horror are awesome! The audience really gets into it and the cast takes its role seriously. They have JUST MOVED so, things are open and functioning, just pardon the dust. What a fun time!!! When reading past reviews, it's hard for me to tell which version of the Sci Fi center is being reviewed as it's had three locations that I know of. (2 on east Sahara and the current is off west Trop on Arville). I'm not nearly as knowledgable about these "geek" genres as most of the comic con attending crowd but I love film and that's why I attended...and boy am I glad that I did! The screen was surprisingly large and I was really surprised that theater style stadium seating was present as well! This definitely has a gritty indie/grindhouse type feel and that's exactly why I liked it so much! The proprietor, William, was really friendly and I'm glad that there are people like him putting on events like this. I attended the Italian horror double feature and will definitely be back! I'm pretty sure this is the closest thing to a grindhouse that exists in the valley...and even if not, I'll still come back here! read more

Whoot what a blast I had last Friday! It was Dr. Who night and with the exception of a theater goer who got a bit too comfortable (yeah lady Im talkin to YOO people aren't going to be too pleased when you carry on a conversation ACROSS THE ROOM. Yeesh this is a theater seriously) the show was great. I loved the awesome silliness of the 60's future vision and the storyline was still rock solid as ever. So what was showing was great and there wasn't a photographer in sight, even scored myself a floating angel cutout AND a sonic screwdriver. The guy running the Dr Who night was a delight, just a regular guy who loves his job. I was disappointed by the turn out, in all there was about a little over a half dozen folks I think, but it kinda added to that intimate private screening feel I love so much about this place. Hey and I even got me some awesome pupupas outside from a church Bbq going on a few doors down. Dont normally run into those people but every now and again the other tenants of the business center pop up. Nice folks all around. Cant WAIT for the Rocky Horror double feature, a wee bit bummed I missed out on Sugar Hill. If any of my kids liked Dr Who it would have been cool to bring them, its easy enough to slip out of the theater and address little kid needs without causing too much of a scene BUT BE AWARE if you're bringing kids pre-screen events by signing up for their newsletter or just check out the website. I hear they have some awesome burlesque nights and they obviously wont allow anyone not of age to enter if theres to be a performance in between shows. Finally found the time to stop by this place after spotting they were having a Dr Who Classic night. Going in gives you the impression you are hanging out in some friend's geek'd out basement;: stuff here and there, different genres and a place to just hang out and talk. Right off the bat I found an old collectible book I had to have. They have comics, magazines, toys, videos and other things for sale. They also have a viewing room where they screen movies and episodes scl fi and more. They even sell popcorn and drinks at reasonable prices. What struck me is how easily you got drawn into conversations with people you don't even know. I see this as it's greatest asset because I can easily see spending an afternoon there just chatting and meeting others. I think they should consider selling coffees and more snacks to generate more bucks from people like me, cause I think I'll be a regular. read more

Saw the Rocky Horror Picture Show there. In a word; horrid. Our MC warned us of cheap seats and he had Zero personality. It gave me the impression he was a last minute stand in that really didn't want to be there. The theater itself has shop lights clamped to nails jutting from cinder block walls. The movie failed three times, and since it's on DVD, that says a lot. There cast outnumbered the audience, which is always a bad sign. The cast did well, but the venue needs some serious help. read more

I have followed the changing spaces of the Sci-Fi Center and am glad to see the constant improvement . In a town where everything is new and newer and history is something to be torn down and forgotten by the next big thing I want thank the Sci-Fi Center. The S.F.C. was providing a space to watch classic sci fi movies and holding movie marathons when it was close to impossible to enjoy these events in Las Vegas. The S.F.C. is not sharp and shiny, it is not slick and overly ornate. What it is, is what a independent film house/comic shop should be, a geeky, gritty, audience driven local home to all fans of sci-fi, horror, animation and fantasy. read more
