As time went on we decided that we would like to stay and have dinner here but indoors as it was getting cold. There were 14 of us and they managed to fit us into the restaurant area on the proviso we ordered quickly before the 6:30pm booking arrived and one table had to vacate by 8pm. The staff were great and we did not feel that we were being rushed even though some people had starters. A lot of us picked from the specials board and the food came out devine and the service was outstanding. The place was busy as it was the jazz/fringe festival weekend so the clientelle was of all ages (a bit annoying having babies/kids screaming thoughout the meal) including elderly who came in through the fire door for easy access. I would definitely recommend this place which is also dog friendly. This place is soo good that Seasick Steve was playing there that evening and eating his dinner in the pub part as we left.

Love this place and wish we'd found it earlier in our stay in Brecon…read more Genuine pub, genuine people, genuinely funny landlord and landlady and two of the friendliest dogs I've ever met! Oh, and the beer and ale's not bad as well! We visited on a Saturday and had missed the Friday night live music, which we were gutted about because it sounded like a good night had been had by all. The barman was hilarious; he was sneaking a half a lager before his wife came back from walking the dogs. I put it to him that half a lager wouldn't hurt, to which he replied 'it's my fifth half and what the wife'll do to me if she finds out will definitely hurt'. Priceless. They had a guest beer on tap, though I've forgotten it's name. I do remember that it tasted great, though. If we're in Brecon again and fancying a wee tipple, we'll head straight for The Bull's Head and its warm welcome.

Bf not overly impressed with either ale he tried, which is not great for a tap, but my cider was very nice. Fairly reasonably priced at £5.30 ish for 3 halves. Very friendly staff and regulars. I just don't like this place and I'm not entirely sure why…read more Have visited Brecon a couple of times and tried the Puzzle Tree on both occasions and, though the staff were friendly (if a little disinterested and distracted) and the beer was good, I couldn't warm to it. It looks great from the outside, especially with the massive monkey puzzle tree outside the front door, and is smartly decorated on the inside, with deep reds and yellows and golds. There is a small bar area and the rest of the downstairs is tables and chairs, restaurant style. There is an upstairs, but I haven't ventured that far (last time, upstairs seemed to have been turned into a mexican restaurant while downstairs had a big push on steaks). There were plenty of people having dinner and they looked and sounded like they were enjoying it, but it has that contrived edge that comes when a place is trying too hard and the patrons are all pretending to be having a wonderful time. I guess that the problem with the Puzzle Tree for me is that it doesn't feel genuine. I much prefer the Sarah Siddons Inn or The Bull's Head.

Nice bar off the centre of Brecon, with two floor levels, and bars on each floor. It has a modern…read morelook, comfortable arm chairs and smart decor. There are big television screens on each floor showing major sport events. There's not usually many loud parties unless on a theme night. If there's nothing advertised it's fairly quiet. he pub quiq night is good fun, and is usually well attended. Normal range of drinks on offer. Its a minute away from the town centre so its also easy to get to. A good choice for visitors to the town, unless you want to be in a more traditional country pub.
