Those who have visited The Sandrock in years gone by will remember a basic, unassuming, beer drinkers pub offering simply wel served beer and an opportunity for unpretentious surroundings for those pub conversations. No fancy food, in fact no food at all at lunchtime bar a few basic rolls. But that all changed when the long standing landlord hung up his bottleopeners and the pub passed into the hands of some would-be restauranteurs. I guess you would call the place a gastro-pub with a chic extension to provide a bigger seating area. The food selection is typically gastro with prices to match. That's a shame as it prices out most of the old customers who just enjoyed their pints with the occasional bar meal. I found the place almost unwelcoming if I'm honest. Also gone is the famous Sandrock Beer Festival an event which has been replaced by the nearby Bat and Ball Beer Festival. In fact The Bat and Ball, literally only 200 yards away, still provides the more laid back environment even though it's food can be pricey at times too. read more
