We stayed at the Sandcastle in July 2009 We booked on the same morning we arrived, and drove down from Newark. We found a place to Park right outside the Guesthouse, which is in a row of similar properties. There is a Pay and Display Carpark Opposite, adjacent to a paved promenade and Blue Flag Beach. Our room was a top floor Dorma which had recently been re-fitted, and of which the owner was duly proud.. the Bathroom was enormous and tasefully fitted out with Roll top Bath, separate Shower and all the facilities, and has a west facing window which lets in beautiful light in the evenings. The view from the front was stunning straight over the road to the beach. The flying fifteens tea room is over the road and is a must visit if you like your tea and cakes.. The owner was very pleasant and we were left to it after we had checked in, with a lovely bowl of kit kats and Mrs Grimbles Biscuits.. The Breakfast was in the Basement dining room, and was very very nice, there isn't much room in the dining room one large shared table and a smaller table at which we sat, I think this layout may change to suit the guests staying, as there aren't many rooms, so I wouldn't envisage strangers having to share, but that said it wouldn't be that unpleasant as the owner is not only the chef but plays host without being intrusive.. We visited Somerleyton Hall and Village this was our main reason for staying in Lowestoft, we bought Chips from the Pier which were excellent, and on the following day opted not to eat in the town as there is very little in the way of a wow factor food wise.. Maybe we were being picky, but you can have a pub lunch pretty much anywhere.. so we did just that and went to the broads on our way home near Acle.. If you are there in Summer and have a good camera, Set your alarm early.. the Sunrise coast isn't just a marketing ploy, it's the best sunrise you'll see in Britain, Bar none, especially under the derelict pier and Groynes.. I stayed there from Nov 2010 till Mar 2011 in room 1 on the first floor I had absolutely no problems with the room,cleaning,breakfasts etc.... The owners were in my opinion friendly & helpful at all times and did me a few favours in the duration of my stay My only regret is not being there in the summer months as I would imagine that the gardens back & front would be in pristine condition as is the interior of the guest house in all rooms read more
