I go to the sandbar every time I visit Tybee and it's always an extremely fun time that I barely remember.this time the man behind the bar (big ginger guy) was awesome. He put up with our shenanigans and had a good personality. Love playing pool in the back, you can't beat the vibe of this place. The only thing is when shift changed some little meth head looking brunette started working behind the bar and she was TERRIBLE. She was terrible and was straight up rude to everyone that was there having a good time. How the owner lets her work there is beyond me. Hubby got hungry and went on a late walk to find food near hotel. Right across the street was this place. He stated it was packed and plenty of people smoking (of course no masks)...he ordered himself a burger and me some wings. Food was ok nothing spectacular. Okay... I never give two stars... But this place was just... unremarkable. Our server was no good, which was the first unfortunate start to the evening. Guy clearly hated his job and was flipping tables. It's never fun when you feel like your server hates life... The food was not great. Oysters were funky so be careful. The other things we ordered were fine, bar food standard but not at bar food prices :/ Everyone seems to be so happy on these reviews so I hate to diminish that. I can't write enough good things about this place! My boyfriend and I were staying right around the corner from this bar, so we were here 6 nights out of 7. The bartenders were super nice, talkative and helpful. They told us where to go and what things to do. They recommended ordering a pizza from a place and having it taxi'd to us - which we never would have known was a thing. The drinks were made strong and weren't expensive at all. The music was great every night we were there. The games in the back were fun, we kept busy by playing ring toss, darts and pool. What a happy dive this is! A super intimate neighborhood pub, with happy patrons, down to earth bartenders, a kick ass signature drink (Grapefruit infused vodka FTW!), fantastic prices and a pool table out back. There was nothing not to love about this. It's cozy and not dirty, you will have to mind the smoke a tad, but if you can deal with that, you will be perfectly fine. There are a pool table and a shuffleboard in the back room to hang out and chill in case the locals are looking to dance you into the ground with early '00s jams. I just learned of the owner's selfless gesture to pull all the commemorative cash off of the walls to help her folks get through the challenging times this pandemic has thrown at us. Never been here. Surely will when the chance presents itself. Read about the owner, Jennifer Knox's generosity towards her employees. I've been to any number of bars whose walls were adorned with dollar bills. These bills are not only part of the decor , but a testament to the establishment and its staff. Never did it cross my mind that this money could be put to a higher good. Ms. Knox did! As a small business owner she is facing her own financial difficulties, yet instead of "cashing in" the decor for herself she selflessly carefully removed, collected, and distributed the money to her employees. This speaks volumes to the character, compassion, and empathy of Ms. Knox. Here's a suggestion: Send her a dollar bill with the date, your city, state, and a message, should you choose. She can use the ,only to keep her business alive, assist her employees, or both. I've already sent a fiver to get the ball rolling. It probably took a long time to cover the walls of the Sand Bar, but please take a moment to pay it forward. It was about 2:45 AM and there was a woman yelling at all of us to get out. I guess it was the owner's daughter is what I was told. She was rude and unwelcoming. At 2:50 she looked back in and yelled at me asking why I was looking at her like she was stupid. The bartenders were ok. This place is a cool dive bar but they dont have a good place for the band other than right next to the door and bar. The bartenders have always been chill. The food is a reminder of drunken dorm room munchies. the place smells like a deep fryer and an ashtray but you acclimate after a shot or two.
