Last week no one was at the drop off so I left them at the drop off rear door (it was opened), I couldn't get a receipt because no one was there. Today I went again with 8 large bags of gently used clothing. There was a white car van at the entrance putting bags into the vehicle, the car in front of me pulled up, and I guess they knew each other, the large suv had about 15 bags of items and the woman in the white van was helping taking the bags out and putting them in the white van, 15 minutes later the suv finished and I pulled in her spot, again, no one there to help me with my 8 bags, the woman in the white van was still sorting items and putting them into her van. I'm not sure if she was an employee for the salvation army but I asked if anyone was available and she said no just put your items on the table inside. The problem was that many bags were very heavy, I had my grandson help me so I needed help, no help was available. After I finished I went into the store to speak to a manager, david was an assistant manager and I told him what happened, he basically said they were short handed, David was at the register so I didn't want to interfere too much with the sales. My point to the above is that people like myself donate for several reasons, like to give good clothing to people who can't afford retail and two, to employ people of the salvation army. To be treated with utter disrespect is absolutely unacceptable. I will go to goodwill next time. Don't go to this establishment....

There are weekly color tag 50% off deals like at the other stores. The rewards program is superb. I subscribe to their email newsletters and get often coupons to use. Today, I was there with my parents. The clerk was so patient and kind as their technology was not working well at time of purchase. I hope they get their issue fixed. Prices are generally good here. Great prices on t-shirts, jeans, books, and bags. There is a great selection of shoes but prices are kind of high considering the shoes are used. I would not pay $20 or more for a pair of sneakers usually unless they are in perfect like new condition, a designer brand and are made of leather. I saw some non designer fabric shoes that were priced kind of high. I have paid about $20 for a new pair of shoes on clearance at discount stores like Ross and Marshalls. I am more willing to pay about $20 and up for a pair of brand new shoes on clearance at a store that sells only new merchandise. I am aware that the bottom tread on the soles on used shoes can have been worn down or perhaps some other flaw which would explain why the shoes were donated to the thrift store in the first place. This store used to carry jewelry but I guess just like Goodwill, sell all of their jewelry online now except for the occasional jar of mixed costume jewelry. I do miss being able to purchase individual jewelry here like the other thrift stores.

Wow, corporate mentality has finally hit Grey Bears. Went there today as I do weekly, found a few…read moreitems I wanted and went to pay the prices as labeled on each item. Cashier then balked at the prices and said she couldn't sell them to me because she hadn't approved the prices, as the "guys" in the back, don't know how to.....even though Grey bears employees them to do so? WTF........... So if you find an item for a deal, they now have the unposted right to refuse the sale because someone thinks the price isn't reflective of it's true "give to us for free" value. Sad, but I have been slowly noticing this trend lately, just not as blatant as today.

I used to really love this place. They took away the donation incentive. They added signs…read moreeverywhere about watching your kids and don't touch anything. Took the play area away as well as the bathroom/changing table. This is a family story. With so many littles and pregnant moms. I understand saying customers only on the bathroom. My daughter needed the toilet and they told me to walk down a few buildings to the pizza place....they are also not friendly in store. Such a shame it used to be so nice and inviting.

The process was fast as all I had to do is place my bag of items in a bin. I can see there are advantages in donating this way. First, it is not an actual store so I will not be tempted to shop. Second, I do not know anyone and do not know where my donations will go as Goodwill is a huge thrift store chain. I most likely will not see any of the items I donated so no regrets. Third, I am giving to their cause which supposedly is for helping people get employment. And fourth, all items go directly in their stores (in store or online) to purchase- I do not think employers are allowed to keep or buy the merchandise ...only the customers who purchase can do that. I like that... and did I state how convenient it was to donate? Within 5 minutes! Oh, and fifth, unlike some horror stories I have heard online of people donating bags of items and the employees open the bags right then and tell the person what they will accept and not accept, I did not see any of that here. I liked that. Personally, I think thrift stores (no matter what their preference of types of merchandise are) should just be grateful that a person donates their items to them. After all, the store is getting the items for free. The employees can later go through the bags and decide what they can sell and what they can't. The person has decided to donate their items voluntarily to the store, that is alone kind.

Because 82% of their money goes directly to operational aid, 1.64 of the $2 electric toothbrush is going to directly help people. Meanwhile, Savers is for-profit (lame), even though I might go there for the bigger selection of costumes and games. Salvation Army often has less overhead and doesn't make their exclusive items available for auction, so everything from those pacifiers to those brown and yellow boxer shorts are a little cheaper, plus their CEOs make less money. On God. I don't think there's a dedicated drop-off spot in the back, but at least the doors open automatically, so it's easy to carry in those broken VCRs, CD players, landline phones, typewriters, encyclopedias, and Puff Daddy Bad Boy Reunion Tour 2016 shirts.

**October 2025: Saturday Morning Visit**…read more I was on a search for a couple of pieces for an upcoming outfit that I was building and found this Salvation Army on my Yelp search. I think this branch is new as they had a balloon arch at the front door on my visit. The shop itself is clean and organized. They had a good selection of pretty much everything - shoes, dresses, pants for both men and women. I was actually successful in finding a few base pieces for my outfits and the prices were reasonable. I believe I spent $12.99 for a jumpsuit and $8.99 for a long sleeved dress. They unfortunately do not have a dressing room but I did see a long full length mirror if you want to put garments over your clothes. Service is warm and overall I was satisfied with this visit and would definitely come back again for future treasure.

I had a lovely experience shopping at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop today. All the…read moreproceeds support the American Cancer Society. So I felt that purchasing something from here goes to a good cause. I love that. They have a lot of clothing items, shoes, jewelry, books and household items for sale. I found a section of old cookbooks that peaked my interest. I found two really neat cookbooks from 1929 and 1949 that I had to get. I love old cookbooks and forgotten recipes from the past. I also found a set of 4 appetizer plate that had different images of cheeses on them. I thought they would be great to have for a charcuterie board. The ladies that volunteer their time there, are all so friendly. I had a nice time chatting with them. They signed me up for their rewards program where you earn points with every purchase. They also let me know that they welcome volunteers. I'll have to keep that in mind. It's a very nice store and a great place to find treasures that are intriguing. I will definitely come back and go to some of their other locations in the South Bay.

Plenty of shoes, bags, and jewelry, too. They still have lots of vintage items and they didn't seem as overpriced as they did a year ago. Nice sets of dishes, collectibles, milk glass, knick knacks, and books. I found an Eileen Fisher sweater in my size for an excellent price. What a nice surprise. The cashier tipped me off to a second one in green on the rack, but it wasn't my style. I appreciated her thoughtfulness, though.
