This is not my first time at Salty Caper but I always have a great experience. You go up and order at the bar then seat yourself. They have specials every week until it runs out that are so fun and creative but they also have some solid choices on their regular menu. We love it here! The pizzas are amazing from the wood fired pizza oven. We've never been disappointed here. It's counter service where you order your food and drink. They will bring the food out to you when it's ready. Outdoor seating in the back with plenty of room inside. Did I mention how good the pizzas are! And the sgabei (breadsticks) are out of this world. You can get them with pesto and a tomato sauce, or with powdered sugar and a drizzle of chocolate. We haven't tried the sugar because we are so full from the pizza . I recommend trying the Salty Caper! I promise you will keep returning for more. You can create your own or choose any of their creations on the menu. The Salty Caper was just okay for me, nothing outstanding. I ordered carry-out, so maybe eating there and having the pizza fresh out of the oven would make a difference. The crust is very thin and crunchy, but it seemed to lack flavor in some way that I couldn't exactly pinpoint. It felt like it was missing something. That said, it wasn't bad, it was definitely edible, but I've had better pizzas elsewhere. I'd consider dining in next time to see if the experience improves. I only get takeout, but the staff is always extremely thoughtful and professional. It's a friendly establishment & very clean. I think it has about 10 or so tables so it's not the largest places but I think every pizza I've had has been very very good. I haven't gotten a salad or any of the other dishes. This is the best pizza in Salisbury so that's a plus but Salisbury is a limited town with limited tastes. I would consider this equivalent to Mellow Mushroom in a larger town. It's tasty and has good beer. The pizza has a similar profile although it's a little thinner. They don't have any gluten free options which is a disappointment these days. The food is good and the service is friendly. They do bar service which I normally enjoy, however they don't seem equipped to handle a busy day. Overall the pizza and beer is good, not great. Once you order, you receive a number for your table and cups to get soda (Cheerwine & Coke products) at the machine. Pick a table and wait until your food arrives. Easy peasy. Yummy pizza spot! We were at a bar that did not have food so we ordered pizza to bring in. I called it in and the man on the phone was super nice. I ordered their white pizza and added pepperoni and fresh spinach. Thin crust, good toppings and nice crust. Their large was a good size. For a pizza place, the beer was damn good. The pizza wasn't as good as I was hoping for: the crust was great, but there wasn't much in terms of toppings (I got the four cheese topping pizza, and I liked the mix, but it maybe covered a third to two/fifths of the pizza). I'm not a big fan of the restaurant itself, either. It was claustrophobic, and the wooden chairs are not comfortable on - well - your butt. So, this is our dinner choice for tonight. My boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try. When we walked in, we were greeted by a counter in front of the menu. Everyone was very friendly, and location is centrally situated in downtown Salisbury, North Carolina. Parking was easily accessible. Inside, the bar area was relaxing, comfortable, and very spacious. The walls were adorned with knickknacks and various pictures. There was even a fountain where you could self-serve your drinks, ensuring a sanitary environment. And I noticed Fresh wood logs were available for burning. The pizza selection ranged from personal to medium and large sizes. They also offered beer and wine options. With over 25 different toppings to choose from, I ordered a personal pan pizza, which was about 8 inches in diameter, with a pesto base. I added bacon, pepperoni, and Canadian bacon as my toppings. Updated review. It has been a long time since I have been to The Salty Caper. I just don't get to Salisbury very often. So the pizza here is still damn good. This is one of my favorite pizza places. I just wish they had a place closer to me. Warning: This is NOT Pizza Hut or Papa Johns. If you are expecting this then you may get sticker shock from the menu. The Salty Caper is making craft pizzas using excellent ingredients. You can taste the difference. The differences between now and my last visit (2 plus years ago) is they have significantly increased their beer selection (tap and bottled). They also have a better wine selection. Before it was just red or white. Highlights - Nice craft beer selection - Excellent pizzas (all thin crust) - You order at the counter, still no wait service - Small indoor seating area which is my only pet peeve - Not good for large groups, but great if you have 2 to 4 people - Small outdoor seating area on the side and in the front of the restaurant - Street parking only - Highly recommend if you are visiting downtown Salisbury read more

The name of this restaurant....lives up to the haughty arrogant salty pizza chef. When I've gone to restaurants in the past, they have been so happy for our patronship. At this time in my personal life...I am taking care of my mom with dementia. My days are challenging with her. My mothers favorite meal is pizza. I don't know how much longer I have with her. Last time we went to the "Salty Caper" We arrived a bit early at 4:40pm and even though they could see that my mother could not walk well they didn't care. They sent us away and told us to come back at 5pm instead of just letting us sit there for twenty mins. When we arrived, they had three spots right up front for "pick-ups" but no where for handicapped people to come in(except across the streets if you can't walk well....they definitely give priority to pick up orders over handicapped people.) There happened to be a spot that time in front of the next building. When we went in, we had to stand at the counter and order...I asked about the beers(because sometimes I need to take the edge off of my day,dealing with a mom with dementia.) I prefer a wheat beer and John gave me a sample. I liked it so I ordered one and sat down with mom who can't stand for very long. I did comment to John about the parking &asked if could they get a Handicapped spot up front?I ordered a fried calzone and a small four cheese pizza. both were very good. Since Covid is going on, we were given flimsy plastic forks that could not cut the calzone. I commented on it thinking they would appreciate the tip to make them better as a business ,by letting them know we could not cut the fried dough with our forks.It was very hard on my mom to eat the food. we asked them to cut the calzone with a pizza cutter. they did. but we could only eat the pieces with our hands. Calzone was good.I had commented on the pizza chef's tshirt since he is center stager all to see. I can't remember now what it said but the way I interpreted it, it reminded me of a memory...I tried to communicate with the chef and he just truly seemed salty and callous. He proceeded to make stink eye through our entire meal...and why? because I commented on the parking and the forks? A month later we return because the calzones are good and so is the beer.There was no where near the restaurant for my mom to get out without walking across the street to upper parking lot. She is 80....some might be callous& say 'don't bring her' but if I leave her at home alone I have no life, nor does she. So,here we are again, just trying to eat a meal and have a beer and chill. I sat mom down at the table and I went with my mask up to order. (which was five feet away.They could have just come over, were not busy at the time,asked us what we wanted,but they did not.)So I go to counter,5ft away, ordered a 4cheese pizza without mozzarella substitute ricotta,add basil and it was suppose to have gorgonzola/romano on it.) I asked about beer and wanted to try a sample of a new IPA,something new....but they would not give me a sample(like they did the last time we were there.) When I asked Why, he said" I was just being nice before".....I thought to myself....( so today you're NOT NICE?) ...and he refused to give me a sample, blaming it on covid 19, even though two other restaurants on that block had given samples over the last few months during covid. Even THEY had given me a sample a month prior....now,when the restrictions have lifted, would NOT give me a tiny little sample,ridiculous. So being a sport,I stuck with the beer that I had the last time since the manager remembered which one I had(brownie points). I ordered a fried calzone again and a large pizza with one side being the four cheese pizza no mozzarella extra ricotta(and suppose to have Romano and gorgonzola.) Now......gorgonzola is a very unique strong flavor not to be mistaken visually or tastewise.We got our pizza,it DID NOT have Romano or gorgonzola.Just having ricotta and sausage was not enough,it was dry and flavorless. I told John that they forgot the gorgonzola and Romano.The Salty arrogant chef,I saw him yell,"Just tell them to get the hell out!"I like to ignore the behavior of salty jerks like this and focus on the fact that we had just paid $50.00 for two beers a small calzone with just ricotta and basil and a Large Pizza that was made poorly without love. What type of chef would treat his own customer like this.Can I ask you... 1. What is wrong with wanting my mom to be able to easily get into the restaurant? 2.Why would you give us a beer sample one time but refuse us the next and blame it on a virus when we know alcohol kills germs?Two other restaurants on the same block offer samples of beer, BTW. 3.
