Wayyy too much fading and a weird point in the back when there wasn't any in the reference photo. If you're looking for a cheap haircut, try giving students the opportunity to hone their skills. If they aren't doing what you want, you just say something and their teacher will fix it... I've been here 3 times over the last couple years and the first two times I cried when I got back to my car (sad :/ ) but then the third time I spoke up and was way more satisfied with my cut. For $12, if you're a girl who wears your hair up a lot, it can't be beat! This is a generous 4 star rating from a girl who isn't picky about haircuts :) remember, it's a beauty SCHOOL. Of the 3 beauty schools in Appleton, this is the most expensive ($11 haircut, instead of $8...and other services are similarly more expensive). It's a Redken-using salon, and they sell Redken products. It's also the newest - it just got its accreditation (which the students are happy about - it allows them to apply for financial aid!). I think this place is kind of a hidden gem - it's lesser-known compared to Martin's/Gill-Tech, and seems to be much less busy. I found a recent haircut there to be really relaxing (not ever the case at Martin's or Gill-Tech), as my stylist had lots of space to maneuver around inside their relatively spacious salon. [Besides hair, they do other nail/spa services, too.] My stylist, Bonnie, was super-sweet and quite skilled with long hair - perfect, as I have long hair (and wanted to keep it long!). Bonnie gave me the perfect subtle layers, and framed my face nicely. She had a great "bedside manner," managing a nice conversation while simultaneously cutting and styling my hair. She also smartly asked me before we got started whether I wanted my naturally curly/often straightened hair to end up curly or straight that day - it affected her shampoo & other product choice. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place to others who are looking for a relatively inexpensive salon service and don't mind spending a bit more time to have it done by a student. read more

I've never had a bad experience with this place, until today. Extremely disappointed with my golden brown & patchy highlights. I spent 4.5 hours in the chair and $95 to leave the salon in tears. I brought my 16 year old daughter in for a color and a cut and she was quoted $220 or a little more but was told with the amount of hair being cut off it should lower the price. Over the phone I agree to that rate. A little over 5 hours later when the service was completed and time to pay they stated the bill as $370.00. At no point did they stop to tell my daughter or me by a text/call that we were looking at +60% increase above the quote. The hairstylist was wonderful and was tipped 60$ the place was clean however a quote is a quote and it should have been brought to our attention when the rate was increasing beyond a 10-15%. That evening they let me know it was retail theft to refuse to pay the new rate but allowed me to pay the quote rate of $220 and talk to the owner on Monday. I did that and the owner stated it was going to be a learning experience for the student teacher/staff. Fast forward 7 weeks when booking a new appointment I found out my family is blacklisted. This is not our first time to this place it had been the only solan that my daughter had her hair colored at for 3 years. It'a a shame to have to part ways. read more

As a former cosmetology student, I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone. I started with a class of nine including myself, and four of the girls left late in the year including myself. This school only cares if you are wearing the newest clothes and have the hottest new items, they don't genuinely care about their clients they care only about money. When I was going to school there, I honestly learned more from YouTube than the actual school itself. I remember walking into school everyday and just getting looks and petty comments, I felt judged and worthless. I didn't have a lot of money because all my money was going towards school at the time so I bought only what I could afford which made a lot of the girls pick on other girls who were in the same situations as I was. As a beauty school, everyone should be a team and care about others and their clients, but it was the exact opposite. If you're a client at Tspa most of the girls are only nice and give you the time of day, because if you buy enough product they can win a prize at the end of the month. This school isn't about teamwork it's about money and favoritism. So if you're looking for a school I would save yourself and not go here. read more

Would not recommend! I initially called to make an appointment and asked the price of what I wanted done. After the style was done the price was more than doubled from what I was told, and I was never informed of the price change. After I went home from my coloring and got a closer look at my hair I realized there was one piece of hair that was a completely different color than the rest of my head. I called to see if they would change this for me and they proceed to say that I would have to PAY MYSELF to have them fix it since I had left the salon already. They will not try to make the customer happy and fix their students mistakes. If you want my opinion, your money is better else where. read more

We have been going to The Salon Professional Academy for years and absolutely recommend to anyone. My daughter has very thick, long hair and they have recommended products and treatments to manage it. Recently I got a perm, which I haven't done in over 13 years as I was afraid it would be too curly, like my last one done but another salon. The student got the teacher and talked with me about how it could be done as to just add waves to the hair and not look like a poodle. IT LOOKS AWESOME! I was very impressed it was exactly what I was looking for. They are truly a professional academy in service and listening to your style for what you want for your hair! read more

"Just a trim" doesn't seem to be a term that they define at this school. A quater of an inch turned into 5 inches worth of layers. Sadly, my precious little locks on the floor couldn't be reattached. Make sure you are crystal clear with them about what you want because they certainly won't refund you if you aren't pleased. read more

Requested a specific hair style was told could be done. Was talked into extensions told they would last longer and would look the same as the picture I was shown. They charged me a lot of money for what I got. Looks nothing like what I requested and was assured I could get. Very disappointed. Made several attempts for resolution and they refuse will never go to again. Would highly recommend going to established hair stylist and paying a little extra especially if you have a specific look in mind. read more
