Best rock 'n' roll joint in Asbury Park. Small club great for up-and-coming bands. Not sure if they're still open but give them a call. I saw the Churchill there, Matthew Sweet, the Lemonheads, even Bruce Springsteen stopped by there. I I saw Ron Haney, I killed me, and the outcry there. That's all I remember. I'll start off by saying that this bar can be a good time if you fit in with the crowd. Very dimly lit atmosphere with a grungy/hipster aesthetic. Poster-covered walls and rainbow lights strung across the room. Enter through the side door with all the stickers on it (not the door that says "The Saint" in big lettering; ironic I know lol). There's a cover fee when you enter. Cost varies depending on the band playing that night. My friends and I paid $10 per person. Pros: live band and cheap booze. Two ciders and a Yuengling were only $17. Cons: place was tiny, and very little seating. You can quickly feel out of place if you don't like the type of music or vibe. I definitely stuck out like a sore thumb in this bar. I think its more suited toward the middle age folks and those who like indie/rock. Huge hipster vibe in here. Cover charges to get in were low, the music was good, and the drinks were well made. I came in at 9pm and they stayed open all night with music going. A lot of fun, and great people working there. If you are traveling to the Jersey shore, I would highly recommend stopping by this music venue. Came here for a live performance. Place reminds me of a college bar, dim lighting, sticky floors, and music posters of the acts that has come and gone. The positives here are the live music and some cool decorations that bring back nostalgia. The negatives, are the smallness of the space, the bar itself is dated and doesn't make you feel good drinking there. The drinks are dilute and pricey. There isn't a menu so you need to have an idea of what to drink and will be surprised on how much you will owe. Just come here for the acts and enjoy your company. The stage is at the other end of the bar. When there is no performance, there is a curtain separating the stage. FYI - There is a cover charge to enter to see the performances. The charge is cheaper if ordering online, but they tack on a processing fee on top of it, so making it not worth it if cost is an issue. I guess you order online if you know it is possible you won't be able to get in to see the act. read more

I came in last night because I was in the mood for some live music. All I can say is WOW did I choose the right venue. It was eight dollars to get in which was a bargain, and I arrived just as the opening band, Jasper and the Kids, were getting on stage. So, I grabbed a delicious cold beer and got ready for the show. The mood and feel of the room were great. I always feel a fun, vibrant energy when I walk into the saint. I've been here a few times before and the talent has always been better than expected. Tonight was no exception. If I'm being totally honest, I liked the opening duet the most out of the three bands that played. The singer's voice was actually incredible and the guy on the guitar reminded me of Messi on the pitch, perfectly in his element and clinical. I would probably pay $25-30 to see them again. Needless to say I'll be back frequently over the summer to enjoy some sweet tunes, especially if I see jasper and the kids on the bill. read more

One of my recent favorite venues in NJ if not overall. This was my first time going to Asbury Park as far as I remember and I must say I do like the town. The Saint stands out as a great bar and music venue. Friendly staff, great beer selection. They don't serve food but they are pretty cool about ordering take-out and getting it delivered there. They even keep take-out menus on hand. The sound system was top notch and they have Al running the sound board when the bands are on. The place has character like a Lower East Side bar but way cleaner and better maintained. I can't wait to go back. read more

I really like how on a summer night, if you cross the street twice from the Saint, and stand cattycorner, you can still catch a glimmer of live music through the ventilation system. The place exudes so much energy on show nights they can hardly contain it. It does not ever offer much in the way of drink specials (no tap, just bottle service?) but there's a reasonable cover for the music and not a bad seat in the house. I enjoy how there's a TV projection of the stage next to the stage. It's like a reminder why we're here, which is not to watch ESPN but to take a break from that and enjoy local music. Top off your excursion with a hot dog from Randy's cart outside. In all sorts of weather he makes sure the rock fans' stomachs are replenished after their faces melt. I've had the pleasure of visiting the Saint on a few occasions, all of them included seeing a show! The other reviewers got this place described spot on - the experience at the Saint is very intimate filled with good people, great sound, and cheap beer! You can find parking by the railroad tracks and there are empty lots in the surrounding blocks - never a problem. Tickets to see shows are usually pocket friendly at $15-20 a ticket. Inside there is literally no bad spot to see the show - if you can get up front right by the bar you are essentially good for the rest of the night! :) I will be coming here again and again to see some of my favorite reggae rock bands entertain the crowd! read more

Ok vibe for the music. Drove down from Brooklyn on Sunday night 12/10/2017 to see China Crisis. Sketchy bartender -- watch out for the skinny, dog-faced girl behind the bar. She tried to rip me off for $10 by taking two $5's I had put under my glass, thinking I wouldn't notice it. I confronted her and she gave me back my cash. Went to tell mgr/owner on duty and we stepped outside where I complained but he played dumb about the whole thing. Depending on what you are looking for when going out for some live music, this place rocks. The place is small so you are going to get raw, original live music almost every night of the week. One of those places you walk in not knowing the band and wind up making a friend or two. Many people have their humble beginnings in this place and you can see why. I came here to support a friend as she hosted a comedy night. I will say this is certainly not my scene. Alright, here's the deal. My dad and I are on a summer tour and this is our first gig that we played at. We have played here before and liked it and we liked it again this time. I can't talk about the beer because neither of us drink that (obviously) but the actual venue and how it treats it's customers and the musicians. Great. They treat you great. The people there ARE quiet, I guess it's one of the rules at The Saint. The venue is also really cool, big lights all around, a cool red curtain on the stage and a dangling SpongeBob in the middle of the floor. It is a little small, but it's got a bar, chairs and tables, a dressing room and bathrooms of course. My father played great and everyone was paying attention and the sound guy was really informative and helpful. This is a great place to have a quick gig at or just to hang out and listen to music. Is this the best original music venue in NJ? A lot of people think so. Scott and Adam have been presenting the best local and touring bands for many years. It's not easy to keep a club going, so they must be doing something right. The Saint is a small club, the walls covered with stickers and graffiti. It's dark, and even a little dingy. Everything a real rock club should be. The crowd is friendly, the sound is great, and the drinks are reasonably priced. Add the best music around, and you've got a great night out. read more

A two, due to it's credible music history...it is what it is. The atmosphere & music were great. This place, however, has THE worst bartender's we have ever seen...and we're 51 years old. If these chicks kept people's cups filled, this place could be a gold mine. We literally had to flag them over to get a refill...when you could get their attention. The one bartender served us a beer that was over half foam, and said, "we're changing the the keg, I'll come top you off". That never happened. There were only about 6 people at the bar to this point! This continued all night. Oh, also, check your bill before you sign off. The sign said $3.00 Pabst drafts. We had 9 all together...$27. The bill was $44.00. My boyfriend said the sign says $3.00, the bartender said "it's $4.00". Either way, overcharged. Bartender says, "well, there are worse things that can happen". Love the Saint. The owner and his wife worked the bar the night we were there to see The James Maddock Band. They really treated us well and made us feel right at home. The place is quite small but perfect to see some of the best musicians in the Asbury Park area. To say we had a lot of fun would be an understatement. This place is cool, its a small rocker bar, with great live music. We drove up and there was a biker gang outside. I went on Wednesday night to see Chris Skel and the Hudson Falcons it was an awesome show! I also wanted to check out Maybe Pete, but they played last and it was a school nite so i missed them cause I had to leave early. They had a $3 miller highlife special. The Saint has some great bands like the Stagger band. They sound pretty good. And the drinks are cheap.

So my first trip to the Saint will also most likely be my last. I got to see the other side of the coin, and boy was I disappointed. My one trip to this place was accompanying an opening band of what was to be about five. When they arrived they were informed other bands had cancelled. While they were setting up, they were asked about how many tickets they sold for the show. Now I don't know the whole story, which involved a bit of email traffic, but evidently they were required to sell a number of tickets in order to play. Well these guys didn't so they were told they needed to come up with the cash for all the tickets or leave. (Of course these kids didn't have the cash on them.) I'm sure having other bands cancel influenced The Saint to push this issue. This was a business decision, and I get that. They wanted to cut their losses and go home. My problem with The Saint comes from them being very assertive in trying to collect the cash from the band for the tickets they did sell, even as they were asking them to leave. Now I'm one of the poor saps who's money I'm referring to. So basically I saw this as them trying to collect my money for a show I wasn't going to be able to see. This makes me view pre buying tickets to this place a gamble. On the other hand, it's a small place, so I wouldn't go there without a ticket in hand either. Too bad. My quick look around inside makes me think it could be a neat place. Perhaps they'll go out of business and reopen under better management. Let's hope. read more

to have an original music bar that has seen the likes of ben folds, kings of leon, deftones, black reberl motorcycle club, jon spencer and so many others, in the heart of the jersey shore cover band land and NOT in the cookman avenue district for 16 years, they're doing something right. small bar and gets crowded easily, but the best place to hear a band. plus thursdays they have weekly jam band shows that gives an outlet for the jam band crowd (and there's a big one, believe me) to do their thing. only complaint is the cover and beer cost. there might be a stronger original music scene if it didn't cost TEN BUCKS, even on weeknights-thursdays are usually 8 bucks. i don't mind paying a cover-actually when it's for a band i like paying one-as long as the band's getting paid. but to get people ino your place you might consider owering it just a bit!!!! read more

Let's start out with Scott being my lifesaver. I had an amazing time at the bar, great bands and good service. Of course I made the silly mistake of leaving my credit card at the bar...who does that. However, I was leaving town the next day and wasn't able to go back to the bar during their open hours. I called and spoke to Scott, who was super nice and offered to mail my card back to me! I was already prepping my speech to just cut the card and throw it away, but he offered and was super nice about it. Even sent me a confirmation text that it was on its way! The Saint is a cool place to go and hang out with some friends. it is in asbury, so its near some other nice places too. the place is a little bit small, but the bands are local, and there is a variety of them on most nights. the drinks are relatively priced, and the stickers all over the place of the other bands that played there give it an edge. The music can get a little loud if you are in there for too long (because of the size) but it was a fun night out. read more
