Built in 1897 by Isabella Gregson in memory of her parents, it was constructed to accommodate lectures, an art gallery and a museum, things I doubt anybody would travel to Garmoyle Road to witness. The artifacts, all of which I doubt were life-changing, were moved to various locations across the city centre and the building was left to host whatever hotchpotch of activities the neighbourhood needed an open space for. Threats of demotion were dropped on the weary building's shoulders but following an enormous local outcry, it was upgraded to Grade II status and is now safe to continue doing whatever the hell it does. Saying that, this was the first place I voted in an election so, you know, get ready for that blue plaque to be nailed up here.

The hotel room was extremely clean and tidy, though my only concern was that we were unable to open the window as it had been locked shut for safety reasons, and there was no air con in the room. Other than this minor downfall, the rest of our stay was perfect! Bed was very comfortable, lots of channels on the TV, a hairdryer, a kettle with complementary tea and coffee, fresh towels, hangers & shelves, and dispenser body and hair wash in the shower. We paid £70 for 2 people for 1 night, which I thought was quite reasonable once I looked at it as though it was £35 each. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and made us feel very welcome.

It was pretty small for a 'large' around 3/4 of the size I'd get at Starbucks or so. The coffee quality was average/OK, worth the price as it was good value especially in a travel location (Starbucks inside the station is VERY expensive) A cool store which looks good, serving average coffee and even booze. Located right in the city centre, a couple of minutes walking away from St Peter's Square, on Windmill St, the biggest issue is parking, the closest car park is NCP Manchester Central, the rates are very high, so you might be best parking elsewhere in the city centre, or using public transport, with Metrolink services stopping at St Peter's Square. Husband ordered Halloumi fries and I ordered a slice of apple pie with ice cream. This was brought o to the table by the happy, chatty, Sophie. Another 15 minutes and they had buns. But it seems like they went 40 minutes before they even figured out that didn't have buns. So prices are average. Quality is average. Location is whatever.
