Sadly a recent negative experience here has caused the need for me to downgrade Store Street Exchange, mainly down to the failure to deliver a safe dining environment for me as a coeliac, previously they had an industry-led system of giving me a dietary card where I'd fill in the information and be assured, but my recent experience was totally different.
This included being given gluten-containing bread with my chicken and sweetcorn soup, I had to check with the waitress that the bread was gluten-free, only for her to go to the kitchen and find out it wasn't. Due to my allergy, I then had to ask for a separate plate for my bowl of soup to avoid contamination, my server had no idea regarding cross-contamination.
My main course was again totally different, the steak I ordered was far too tough, not only was it hard to cut into but it was one of the worst steaks I've had, considering on previous visits I've had the best steak in the whole of Manchester I was shocked.
After sending it back, I ordered the rotisserie chicken dish, but again they had given me the gluten-containing gravy with it, I again had to inform the server that the gravy isn't gluten-free (as I was told previously), she again made no effort to replace this with something else or even apologise for making a mistake.
My recent experience really did feel like a totally different restauraunt, due to having exceptional dining experiences here in the past I will likely consider returning, but there is no excuse for serving gluten-containing ingredients on more than one occasion, which shows a lack of staff training on that matter. I would need assurance this training has been processed as my server did seem highly naive, before returning as a paying customer again.
2* - The extra star is for the really good management who I feel confident will address my requests by reminding staff about allergy procedures, to make me feel confident to return. read more
