Great place to stop by especially if you're coming from Starved Rock! Went with some friends and enjoyed the ice creams/ root beer float! Fries were on the soggy side but the Mac n cheese nuggets were good. Staff were super friendly and welcoming and the place was packed. Also cash only place! They do have an ATM though.

when you have the classic Papa Burger welcoming you in ... it's going to be a good day pull up and take a step back in time. It's like time stood still here and in this Crazy World it's a Great feeling

Root Beer And Lettuce Salad

Classic place for root beer. It also has basic food. The Rootbeer Stand is one of the more popular places to go in Oglesby. Has plenty of the drink, but also has things like slushies and some junk food that isn't impressive. Prices are thankfully good for the limited options because it's not like it's worth all that. A good place for a cold drink after a hike. It's not far from Matthiessen and Starved Rock. This was about the only place that wasn't a chain open in town. Came here and of course got root beer. Easy choice, because the only other drink they had available was water. Crappy but very easy choices. It's $3 for root beer in a frosty mug. They didn't charge us that much because of the limited options. Cool. We thought it was pretty good. Afterthought is how to describe the food. The only vegetarian option was the Lettuce Salad. It's about $2 for a small bowl. This was literally just iceberg lettuce and tomatoes. However the Italian dressing was good. This helped actually make it a pretty good salad for real. Certainly root beer is the main attraction. It can come just as it is in a mug or get it as a float. The food is pretty basic greasy fast food stuff like burgers but there's healthier options like salads.

Response from owner after messaging her

After waiting 45 minutes for our food it came out cold. Not just some of it, all of it- grilled cheese, burgers, fries, appetizers. When I told the food runner girl she rolled her eyes at me. None of this is acceptable for a business! Customer service is what keeps your business going, just remember that.

Pretty good burger! Love the onion ring and the root beer float! I would definitely return when I go hiking in Starved Rock.

It has nostalgia going for it and the food is probably OK if you're a teenager and don't care.

Great bartender took order of one extra pepperoni sans cheese and one traditional pepperoni and cheese. "I'll be back in 20. Should I pay before I leave? No thats fine." Back 20 mins later a bit more crowded and pizzas ready to go. Ambience of space is not my vibe because I dislike the electronic gaming. Coffee wasn't kept filled and had to grab silverware from another table so food wouldn't get cold. At one point the server filled one person's coffee cup at the table, left and never came back even though everyone else had empty cups as well. Didn't ask anyone, just poured it and left. Food and drinks were not good. Edible but wouldn't ever come back. We had a variety of meals because we had a large party. Not a single thing was remarkable in a good way. The two things that were exceptionally bad were the biscuits and gravy and veggie skillet. The gravy was bland and not creamy. The biscuit tasted and looked like it was a made from the freezer. The veggies in the skillet: undercooked onion, frozen spinach, canned mushrooms, ok fresh tomato. Just overall not good. Coffee tasted slightly above water and lukewarm. Decor was generic. I would equate this entire experience to an institutional meal at like a low grade retirement facility or something similar.

A bit pricey for a breakfast dish ($16) but I wanted to treat myself before going on my hike. One of them came out drenched in hollandaise sauce-- you couldn't hardly taste what was underneath it-- though I guess that's better than not enough hollandaise sauce, lol. My server was okay. Nothing good or bad. Really liked the ambiance inside the place. Lots of gleaming polished wood. Would've been even better if they'd had the fireplace going (though it was nearly 70 degrees out in November...), so I can understand why they didn't. But I hope they do in the winter months! Because I was early, I got a table right next to the window so I could look out. That said, the view facing the street isn't anything particularly special. But the sunlight streaming in was nice; it really made the place glow. I actually utilized Yelp to make an advance reservation the night before for the earliest 8am time slot, because they recommended reserving on the website. Turns out it really wasn't at all necessary on a Tuesday morning. They have A LOT of tables and only five were ever occupied while I was there. But I could see this place filling up on a Saturday evening during peak months. Can say with assurance I would eat here again, especially if I were staying at the lodge. A lot of their menu items looked quite tempting!
