The Rock Shed - The Rock Shed, Keystone, SD - Jewelry Near Me - Keystone, South Dakota

If you live in Canada stay away from The Rock Shed. I ordered $33 worth of supplies and was ok to pay $55 shipping as it was still cheaper that local competitors. Disappointed how that they used FedEx who sent me a bill, 2 months later, for another $30 in clearance fees. Even worse, I tried calling The Rock Shed but no one ever answers. I sent an email inquiry and 3 weeks later(and counting) they can't be bothered to reply. Based on their lack of customer care honestly, no matter where you live, I would NOT recommend. read more

I'm not one to write many reviews but this place definitely warrants one. I do want to make it clear that I've never been to the actual shop I'm writing this review based solely on my online orders experiences. I recently got into rock tumbling a few months ago and didn't really know where to start. Everything kept leading me back to the Rock shed website. I won't lie it was a bit weird because they're online pages very outdated but I said what the heck. My first order round is spent about $170 I bought Brazilian agates, Mexican moss agates, Montana moss and a few others. I also bought some rocks from other websites. And comparing the quality that I got from the rockshed to the other websites was astronomical. With the rock said it looked like someone went in there and hand picked a great batch for each bag. It didn't look like bottom of the barrel stuff. Whereas to other websites it literally look like they went to their backyard and just threw rocks in the bag. Since then I have ordered grits and even a pendant and have been super happy with all my orders. I not only recommend this store for rocks but also the grits and anything rock related. They give you tons of information about the rocks. Where it comes from and just background information that is super useful, no other website that I have seen offers that amount of information the way the The Rock Shed does. The prices are super reasonable compared to other stores online. The shipping isn't much higher than other places and for the quality you're getting it's worth it. Also, you know where your rocks are coming from. I ordered a couple bags from Amazon and nowhere does it tell you where they're actually coming from until you get them and they were all from China! My only recommendation would be that maybe update the website a little bit but it does add to its charm. I hope to one day visit The Rock Shed and it's awesome staff. read more

WELL ROUNDED RARE ROCKS! Keystone SD is where everybody goes to reserve hotels during tourist season to go see Mount Rushmore. It's also a great place to buy a multitude of rare rocks at "The Rock Shed." This is where I bought my perfectly round cut "pet rock" for $65 (+ tax) in October 2020. That's right, they will round out your rocks for you, or otherwise cut to fit, any reasonable(sorry, Mt Rushmore not for sale) size or shape you want. In my case, my 2 lb "fullyspherical" Utah sandstone was pre-cut. Their precut items are on display in their store. Or if you wish, you could buy a whole rock, uncut, from their backyard, or their sideyard. HUGE SELECTION BELIES SMALL STOREFRONT It is a small little shop. Yet you will be amazed at the selection they have! They not only have rocks, but also gems, minerals, fossils and rose quartz, according to their sign in their backyard, where they have many big box loads of uncut rocks and other hard places for all you rockhounders out there! They also have books, cutting tools, and other rockhound related paraphernalia. Who knows, they may even have rare igneous rocks. If they do, Howard Bannister (played by Ryan O'Neal from the movie "What's Up Doc?"...1972") may be calling, or rather clicking, to place an online order at www.therockshed.com. JANELLE = ROCK OF GIBRALTER OF RESELLERS OF GEMS, SHAWN SHOWED KINDNESS But for those of you who are in the Mount Rushmore area, it's worth it to come in, as the kindly late middle aged sales lady Janelle, was extraordinarily helpful. She knows her rocks, and therefore she rocks! Also, kudos to the owner of The Rock Shed, Shawn, whom I just spoke on the phone a few minutes ago to get info for this edited review. read more

My son the rock hound (nerd), loved this place. We spent about 30-45 mins lookin around and finding the best rocks. We found Geods and it was excellent. They helped my son, break it open so he could take it with him. The service was amazing, the selection was great and the folks were all very friendly. We look forward to going back on our next visit. read more

The web site is easy to navigate, product shipped in a reasonable amount of time. Great selection, great prices. Highly recommend!

Visited after panning for gold and gems down the street at a gold mine. Love the vast selection of large stones and the pricing is phenomenal! Can't wait to order and visit upon my return with my husband. Friendly and helpful staff! read more

What a FABULOUS rock shop! They have an amazing selection of beautiful crystals and stones. The people running it were so nice. I felt amazing being there. I will be going back for sure! There are crystals for ANY budget. We got a few small things and spent less than $3. Perfect! Could spend so much more money in there if we would have had the time and means. Amazing place. read more

I am in Illinois and I love rocks. I'm addicted and I have searched the internet. I have bought from many different sources. Never has there been the quality of rocks from The Rock Shed. I wish I could visit this store but as least I can buy and hide from my husband. If we went to store I'd be limited! They also have the best prices, although I do wish their shipping was cheaper, "what are you getting shipped to you rocks?" That's what the mailman asked me. Ha! Actually I am. Anyway, I love this place. Beautiful rocks, never disappointed and best prices. Keep up the quality and your rocks make people happy! Thank you read more

These guys have some great stuff. I know my father in law, a rock hound, always stopped by here when he passed through. Some great agates, fossils and beautiful rocks and stones. We were happy with the prices of what we bought too. Woman who worked there was very nice and helpful. There is a larger yard that has many large samples for sale. Go inside the small shop on the right. Some beautiful fossils well worth the visit even if you don't buy anything. read more

I bought some relatively expensive ($175) Labradorite bookends from The Rock Shed by mail. Before I bought them, I called in and a woman employee (who's name I cannot recall) spend a good deal of time discussing various pieces with me. The bookends were shipped by 2 day mail, and got here perfectly wrapped. They are beautiful. I would not hesitate to do business with this company again. read more

It was a pleasure doing business with Shawn at the Rock Shed! I ordered a 10 inch Lortone Lapidary saw from them after a very bad experience with a wholesale company. Right off the bat, The Rock Shed was a far cry above that other place. It was delivered within the week from South Dakota to San Diego! I have called a couple of times and they are always available if you have questions. As a huge plus, my order came with a nice 10 inch blade that I was not expecting! I will definitely be placing future orders with them. I may even have to drive to South Dakota just to see The Rock Shed! read more

Best example of rocks of every kind here. Super friendly staff and some monumental pieces I have on my wish list!

I'm new to rock polishing and the selection of abrasives are at a great price, a nice selection of rocks and minerals are available with terrific instruction on the proper "recipe" to tumble. Although I'm not ready to buy a rock saw or other equipment, there's a great selection if I do decide to take the plunge. I also appreciate the hardness rating included on each specimen on the Website; helps to understand how to tumble so I can buy the right supplies. I've placed two orders with Shawn, received the first very quickly and am awaiting the arrival of my next order. I highly recommend The Rock Shed for anyone that is a novice or experienced Rock Hound. read more

This place ROCKS!! Best prices online, excellent selection and amazing staff!! In other words they r perfect!!

I'm not one to write reviews, but had to because these guys really shocked us with their selection and service. They had the exact rock tumbler we wanted in stock (that no one else had) at the lowest price by far, and an incredible selection of crushed rock. We've got a budding rock hound kiddo that's been cooped up thanks to this pandemic, and these guys shipped us almost 60 pounds of awesome for 40 bucks in less than 2 business days to Nevada. Everything arrived in great order, and the rocks were truly above average. I made the (great) mistake of calling my shots on ordering a selection of rocks that I knew my kid was interested in assuming that their "medium mix" assorted rocks that I bought with our tumbler would be subpar. Turns out that their mix has a fantastic and varied selection of rocks (definitely more on the 1-1.25" average) rather than the sad reject quartz and jasper chips I'm used to. Also, the specific varieties I ordered were excellent, premium samples as advertised. Our little one is beside herself selecting what's going in to the first batch of tumbling. Anyone willing to explain to her it's like a 6 week process??... The Rock Shed would get 6 stars if they offered that service. read more

Excellent prices, excellent service and staff, and quite an array of local and worldwide rocks, gems, minerals, and fossils. We purchased a beautiful piece of South Dakota petrified wood which was then cut, polished, and shipped to us. Everything as promised and at great price. Definitely stop by their store in Keystone and have a look. Rich H. - Lenexa, KS read more

I ordered a new cap for my tumbler on Friday, it came from SD to TN that Monday. Then I ordered grit on Monday and got it on that Wednesday!! Never saw stuff come that fast from any company before. Packaged well, great price and they helped me (Shaun) with all my tumbling questions. Thanks so much to The Rock Shed for your FAST shipping, great products and fair pricing and for helping me! I would highly recommend them to anyone for all their rockhounding needs!!!! Thank you Shaun and Rock Shed!!! read more
