Every trip to Keystone I make it a point to shop at The Indians for special piece of authentic native art or pottery. The gentleman that assisted me this year was very knowledgeable about the tribes, artists, and history. I selected a beautiful piece of pottery by Carla Nampeyo. The store does carry a variety of souvenirs in various price ranges and age ranges.

I bought items there in 2024 and am pleased with them. I live in Texas and plan to order more items this year.

My husband and I spent oodles of dollars there over the years. I have since moved from the area, and on a recent visit "back home," I was dismayed at the changes to what used to be a charming little store, and a real gem in the Black Hills. The business was recently sold, and the new owners have turned it into a pitiful version of the charming business it was for years and years. They got rid of all of the vintage antiques. They now devote almost half of the store to fabric and quilting supplies. It's ironic that they carry such a vast amount of kitschy made-in-China crap, especially when so much of it touts ultra-right conservative, "patriotic" sentiment. I left the store feeling disappointed, offended, and just downright sad. Because I still have family in the Black Hills, I will come back often for visits, but will never spend another dollar in the store I once loved.

We bought a slightly off-color placard, and while chatting with the proprietor, learned that the saying was something her husband's grandmother used to say. Stop by and get the whole story!
