I really tried to support a local business and they tried really hard to make me change my mind! They are rude on the phone and give no indication they recognize a regular customer. They take a long time to fill scrips and never tell you when they'll be ready, you have to pry. Walmart, here I come! read more

I had my doctor submitted a prescription to Carson Drug on Wednesday because I was low on my medicine and since we were here for a week I thought it would be fine having it sent here. I was told that it would be ready on Friday. Stopped in on Friday and they said did not order it, even though my prescription was confirmed received on Wednesday. Then they ordered it for Monday. Showed up on Monday and found out the meds were given to another person. I was not contacted at all both times that they didn't fill it. It would be well worth the drive to Rapid City if you want your prescriptions ordered and filled in a timely fashion. Avoid this store! read more

I just called to check a cash price on a drug before I drove down and turned in a written prescription. I had all of the information. I do not have insurance as I specifically asked for a cash price. I was still told no. I then told them I would be spending my money elsewhere. Absolutely ridiculous. Small town mom and pop hospitality, NOPE! Custer is so fortunate to have Carson Drug. The store has been going for many years - probably over 60 years or so. It's only had a couple owners, but it always has everything we need ~ gifts, personal items, and prescriptions. The employees are friendly and helpful, too. read more

My husband and I live in Oklahoma. He left his insulin and eye drops in a hotel room refrigerator in Nebraska so we stopped in here to refill his prescriptions. The scripts would have to be transferred from our home pharmacy in Oklahoma. I told the young lady what scripts o needed she collected my information and asked me if I needed FOUR prescriptions. I told her that I did. This was 11:30 am. She told me that transfers take time and I asked how much time. She told me 3-4 pm. REALLY!!!!! When I transferred 18 prescriptions my pharmacy in Oklahoma did it I. Less than 30 minutes. I called my pharmacy at 1:16 and they had talked to them 30 minutes before. My husband went I and they told him they had the scripts but didn't have them in the computer. It would be another hour. We came back at 2:15 ands they only filled three. I asked about the novolog and they told me they filled what my pharmacist on Oklahoma gave them. He didn't give them the novolog because Carson drug told my pharmacist we didn't need it. It would be another hour. Don't know if they are incompetent stupid or lazy. But it is something. At this rate they can only fill about 40 prescriptions a month. People find somewhere, anywhere else to go read more

When I was pregnant with my first born I went into premature labor, luckily the doctors where able to stop my contractions. The day I was supposed to be discharged the nurse came in at about 8:30 am to ask where my prescription should be sent to. ( The medication was to postpone my contractions to prevent premature labor.) The nurse told me my prescription was sent to Carson Drugs and ready to be picked up, a few minutes later. I didn't get back into town till almost 3 pm. When I arrived I went to pick up my medication and I was told they wouldn't have it till Monday. (It was Thursday.) The women told me I had to wait and when I told her that I needed that medication or my son would be born prematurely and at risk of serious health issues all she had to say was, "I know." She did not care at all and when I asked her what I could do she only said wait till Monday. ( At this point I had missed my dose and had already started contractions again.) I then called my doctor and went back inside to talk to the pharmacist and when I asked her to speak to my doctor, to come up with some sort of solution, she tried refusing me and told me several times that she couldn't do anything till Monday. When she finally spoke to my doctor's nurse, they found a different medication to supplement my prescription. However, I would have to wait till 5pm for them to get it ready. I understand when there is absolutely nothing you can do, but she wouldn't even try. Also let it be noted that I couldn't just get my prescription sent somewhere else because the next pharmacy is over 50 miles away, I was already having contractions, and there was no guarantee we would make it in time. Personally, it felt like this pharmacist did not like her job nor actually cared for the people she is supposed to be helping. Just a Nightmare of an experience. read more

Part souvenir shop, and part drug store. Located on the main drag in Carson, the front half of this old drug store is a typical souvenir/tourist store, with the back half still housing a drug store and pharmacy. This place gets a 4 star review from me because of the Pharmacist. After my daughter and I took a spill on the Alpine Slide in nearby Keystone, we trekked out to Carson as this is the closest Drug Store, in search of some over the counter medicine for some serious road rash. The Pharmacist was nice enough to come out from behind the counter and took the time to help us out. Wonderful customer service from a small town Pharmacy! read more

I can't even believe all the good reviews for this place. I am not one to go online to trash small businesses but Carson Drug is not trying to be a drug store at all. They are a tiny little store that is trying to cash in on the tourist T-shirt trade on the street. They are not there for your drug store needs at all. I only went there because the grocery store is very small and didn't offer much. The grocery store had much more to offer. But Carson Drug doesn't have to try to get your business because the closest real drug store is 50 miles away, seriously. People who live in the area either have very low expectations of retail stores or they just shop online. read more
