Such a great day! We did the 2 miles tubing trip, and I can't wait to come back. We will probably take a longer trip next time.

Yes, you read that correctly, we surfed on a river in Pennsylvania. Ian's skills in surfing, SUP and teaching produce an experience you will never forget. We were on surf boards "catching a wave" and SUPs navigating the river and when we tired from that we let the river current and eddy take us on a relaxing ride. Ian had everything we needed from booties to helmets. He made all of us comfortable from the moment we met him and assured us we would be safe, we'd catch a wave and have fun doing so; he was right on. A few days later we signed up for the SUPing on the Allegheny River with Ian. Paddling around the Allegheny islands all the way to a large dam. Pretty darn thrilling. Ian's knowledge of the area made the trip educational as well, who knew there was so much to learn about the Allegheny Islands. Thank you Ian for an adventure we will never forget, and all the photos you captured of us as well.

Did the 7 mile trip today for the first time. It was actually the first time I'd been in a canoe in…read moreabout 15 years! The online booking was fairly straightforward. Both the PFDs and the shuttle vans could use some updating, however. The canoe itself was fine, as were the oars. The river route was very peaceful, with the exception of some choppy water occasionally, with some rocks we had to maneuver around. We did get stuck in a shallow section, but that was on us for not realizing how shallow it was. The take-out was fine, if a little muddy. Overall a good experience.

What if one in your group dips out of the plans. Then you have either paid for person and you're out that money or you have an extra ticket that you may or may not use. Accept a deposit at the time of reservation but the whole thing is a little ridiculous. Pre-covid, they passed out flyers on the shuttle out to the river. If you returned the flyer when you returned, you'd get a free scoop of ice cream. Our family used to love that. We'd still buy more ice cream but after paddling all afternoon, we'd love to sit and relax with our ice cream before loading everything back up and talk about the neat stuff that we seen. This by no means is their fault. I just hope they keep it in mind and bring it back in some way. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons. The shuttle that we rode in sounded and felt like it could use some maintenance and because the 2 rental kayaks we rented for our kids-both had tons of pieces of styrofoam, pieces of tree, and spiders in them. You don't have to spray them out after every use but least spray out the kayaks before using them each season.

My earliest memories from the 1970s are filled with the smell of charcoal smoke at the picnic groves and the freezing shock of jumping into the lake on hot summer afternoons. As a kid, that beach felt massive, and a simple day trip with packed lunches (the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches melted to goodness from the sun) and blankets spread out on the grass was the best part of summer with my sisters and mom. As I grew into adulthood, the way I used the park changed, but I never stopped going. I didn't always go swimming but instead would explore the miles of hiking trails. The best part, though, was getting to experience it all over again through my daughter's eyes. Taking her there when she was little and watching her hit the water and run around the playground were special times indeed. Raccoon Creek isn't just a park to me; it's a constant in my life. Over five decades later, facilities might get updated here and there, but the familiar feeling of the place hasn't changed a bit. It's serene, nostalgic, and always feels like coming home.

Raccoon state park offers campsites that are for people like me with disabilities. Everything is right where you would need it to be. Even the showers are designed to aid people with disabilities. Each campsite is very well maintained. They have their own water plant that the water comes from. There is electric and they are a pet friendly campsite. While it would be nice if they had a full hookup. This works just as well. The staff are absolutely great! Whatever you need, they are the ones who can get it for you. The landscape is amazing. If you would rather camp at a site with no tress you can do it there. I personally love the trees for the shading. This is definitely the place to camp. I look forward to making this our special campsite.
