We rented bikes to explore the GAP and had an easy time getting both a regular bike ($8/hour) and e-bike($25) to rent. Only downside was the e-bike wasn't fully charged (only 60%) when we rented but we weren't going to be out to drain all of it. read more

My friends and and I had an amazing time whitewater rafting on the Lower Yough with Ohiopyle Trading Post! I had only been rafting on super flat water before so this trip was quite the adventure. There are plenty of snacks and water provided, plus at the mid point you can jump off of a big rock. Our guide Andy was the best! He has 30 years of experience and made us feel super safe throughout the trip. We got stuck a few times on rocks and Andy smoothly got us out. Andy was also very fun to talk to. He told a lot of cool stories about his college days and fun facts about Pittsburgh. If anyone is unsure about booking a rafting trip just go for it and book it. All of the guides here are amazing and you will feel very safe throughout the whole trip. Garth was another guide leading the trip as a whole and he was super funny. His safety talks were very engaging and easily kept everyone's attention. My friends and I all agreed that we have to do the more intense Upper Yough next time. We asked for the best rafting guides to take a group of us coworkers down the Lower Yough, and could not have been better taken care of by Caleb, Scotty and Jacob. Our group was in two rafts, we had a couple of beginners with us and they couldn't have been more knowledgeable. Not just about rafting, but about the area, birds that we saw, and the history of the location - it was really nice to know that the guides are passionate about the area and what they do. It makes all the difference. Our guide asked if we wanted to try a few things on the water like surfing, and I'm so glad we agreed to it. We got a chance to jump in the water ourselves in a calm area, there is no graceful way to get back in the raft ha. I felt safe the entire time, especially since Caleb made an effort to point out some rough spots if we were to come back again on our own. What an amazing owner and company! I scheduled a trip but had to cancel because I broke my leg prior to being able to travel to the area for my pre-booked tour. I reached out to the company and while they could have given me a hard time (my tour was booked as not refundable), the owner was very accommodating and was helpful in making sure I was taken care of because of my situation. This is a 5 star company to work with!!!! If they take care of someone who couldn't tour with them the way they took care of me I would think they would take care of those touring with them in the same way. I would certainly book with them again the next time I'm in the area and physically able to do a tour. They seem to truly care about their customers which can be hard to find. We went on the lower Yough yesterday with OTP. The water levels were low but we had a blast. Our trip had 4 boats all with guides which really put me at ease. Family of 8 (4 Adults, 4 teenage kids) spent the day with Riley and Adam for the lower rapids. We were very impressed with both of our guides. They were capable, knowledgeable and made sure we had a good time. Riley and Adam made the break time at the river a blast for the kids and adults. We jumped off a giant rock, and they fashioned a slide into the river from an overturned raft. Our teenagers (and adults) had a day full of memories. Special note: my 16 year old has low verbal Autism. Riley went out of his way to not only make him comfortable, but this nervous Mom as well. He made a special effort to engage with my son and get him involved. He very easily could have just treated him as a quiet passenger, or worse a safety concern. Riley sat my son next to him and kept an eye on him the entire time. He even let my son "call a rapid". His kindness made this Mom happy, and my son very proud. Highly recommend both Riley and Adam as guides. read more

Bike - I rented a bike from here and had an overall good experience; the bike fit well and endured the 15 mile bike ride. I find it useful to mention that the bike I had made a grinding noise when on certain levels. Rental Process - The process to rent a bike was pretty simple. I had to hand over my license and fill out a short form. They charge $6/hour but they multiply it out to make sure you're only charged for however long you had the bike. The staff was laid back about the whole process. Ice Cream - The ice cream here is the generic Hershey's brand ice cream, but it definitely hit the spot after the bike ride. I tried the low-fat blueberry cheesecake ice cream, which was pretty good! read more

Two of us went with OTP Saturday on the Upper Yough, and we couldn't have asked for a better trip! I've been wanting to do this section of the river for years, and it was everything I hoped for. We were the only two customers in our raft - and on the trip - so we got right in on all the action. Our guide, Scott, positioned us perfectly for every run - neither of us fell out of the boat despite some big drops. He also got us ahead of the crowds from other rafting companies, so we never had to wait at the bottlenecks that usually form upstream of big rapids. He still managed to keep us in the high water from the dam release. Safety kayaker/photographer Caleb got fantastic action photos, plus was fun to watch negotiate the whitewater. We got to surf twice, and got to jump off a rock into the river. They even took us to a hidden spring where we could refill our water bottles with the best water I've ever tasted. The boats were self-bailing and in great condition - it's the first time I've been in a commercial raft with the footholds still intact. We had a wonderful time! read more

Our group of 9 rafted the Lower Yough Aug 14, 2017. We were split into two boats without guides. 4-5 people per raft seemed just right. There were a total of six rafts with us, 2 had guides in the raft, and 2 additional guides for the whole group in kayaks. We were all first time rafters, ages 15 to 50-somethings, and we ALL had a blast thanks to the great guides. Clint did most of the explaining for the 6 rafts, and was an expert guide, very clear with directions, very encouraging and patient. Cody was an excellent guide as well. Hoot and Alex were very helpful from their kayaks providing guidance in complex spots. The water level was lower today than it has been recently which meant there were more stones/rocks to avoid. I was impressed with the level of concern about safety gear and having it on and adjusted right. Helmets were required - as they should be. I was concerned that I would be cold due air temps in the low 70s. But the life vest was surprisingly warm. I wore quick drying material. We were not bothered at all by the rain because we were getting wet anyway from water splashing. Plus 4 of our 9 ended up being tossed from the rafts - no injuries. Tie shoes or slip on water shoes - not flip flops, should be worn. Your feet play a big role in keeping you from falling out of the boat. I just wore regular Nike running shoes and was fine. Don't forget to bring dry clothes and towels (leave in your car) for changing when u return. We will definitely be back. And we will definitely choose Ohio Trading Post, and request the same guides again! This was the most fun we have had in a LONG time! read more

I took my son white water rafting for the first time. Up in ohiopyle there are a lot of rafting companies to choose from. I initially choose this one because the website was very easy to navigate unlike some of the others. I called to ensure I was booking the right trip and spoke with staff who was very kind and full of information.we booked and had the best time! Everyone was so friendly, very professional. They spent a lot of time on safety. Our guide Colby was fantastic our boat as did the others had a blast. We gave our guide a workout! The river was lower today and there were 5 adults and a teen in our raft. Maybe only 1 of us had ever been rafting. We got stuck on a few rocks and our guide had to get out and push and tug to get us off the rock. She was great! We felt bad though and really wanted to try and help her, but we also wanted to follow her instructions so we would only move when she told us to move to one side of the boat or the other. The tough thing is trying to wedge your feet into the sides of the boat to get a good hold on the boat since you have to sit on the sides of the boat. So if you have trouble with your ankles or stiff legs, this isn't for you. Three of our riders fell into the water which resulted in some scraped knees and such. But it was a lot of fun! Even when it rained. I was glad I wore a baseball cap to keep the sun off my face and the rain out of my eyes. It took our group awhile to get the hang of the paddling instructions but our guide was great at leading us. The girls got to get out of the boat and swim around in their gear and at another point, got to climb up a huge rock and jump off it into the water. Definitely memorable! The bathrooms in the parking area are really clean and have showers and changing rooms. You can buy things that you might have forgotten like clips for your glasses. We all brought water bottles that we either wedged into the boat or kept in a bag clipped to a ring. You also pass a point along the ride where they take a picture of you. read more

Rented a bike from these guys. I will consider going elsewhere in the future. I called the week before and asked how they late they were open, I was told "we'll probably be open til 5 that day." Probably? That turned out to be a good predictor for how it would be doing business with them. They were pleasant enough, but they unapologetically said no to every request. Is it possible to get a rack on the back? No. Any other way to carry stuff besides a backpack? No. Can I get a lock? No. I'd have happily paid extra for any of that stuff. They won't adjust your handlebars. I was told I had to have the bike back by 5. When I asked what time they close, she repeated the statement, you have to have the bike back by 5. OK. The first bike they gave me had way too much slack in the chain. When I went back, they did give me a different bike, no problem, and the bikes in general are good quality. So...definitely not a terrible experience, but there are at least two other places in the park that I would check out (though they may all be related for all I know). Confluence Cyclery folks were very nice and seemed very accommodating so I may try them next. read more

Had an awesome time. Mike guided our raft and is the absolute best! We had 2 adults and 2 kids, ages 10&13. Mike was very down to earth and relatable. He gave great instruction and kept us on track the entire trip. The stopover for lunch was well organized. Jumping off the rock was the highlight for our 13 year old. The whole group of rafters had a wonderful time and would highly recommend! The guides really enjoy why they do and work hard to pull it all off. read more

We called around to a number of river rafting/ kayaking places and the people working here were the most helpful and friendly. That's why we booked our kayak trip with them. We rented four of the inflatable kayaks where you sit on top. Our trip was 9 miles and took us 4 1/2 hours including a stop for lunch. We didn't see any bugs other than dragonflies. The river and surrounding areas were very beautiful. The water was mostly smooth with a dozen or so class 1 (easiest) rapids. There were two very short areas where the rapids approached class 2. None of the river was what I would consider 'wild whitewater' and dangerous. I would say the kayak trip is appropriate for young teens up to fit people in their 80s. We had a lot of fun and we plan to do it again some other time. read more

Rented rafts here last weekend. Had a BLAST. So fun. Quick note: I know the shuttle isn't this company's (it's run by the state park I think), but y'all should lobby for the shuttle fee to get customers like me and my friends a bit more than a ride from one parking lot at the take-out to another parking lot at the take-out (where we then have to load the rafts into small cars). Why not just go ahead and drive folks back to town? That so hard? Other than that piece of ineffeciency (which isn't this company's fault), the experience was flawless. There are four options of white water rafting companies in Ohiopyle and we were so glad we chose this one! It is a little more expensive but worth it. We went with the guides your on the lower yough. We probably didn't need a guide but it made us feel better and were we grateful when the boats without guides kept getting stuck on rocks. Our guide Nicole was awesome, she was super friendly and easy to talk to. You could tell she was so knowledgeable about the river and would always be looking way ahead to plan our routes. You stop for lunch after 7 rapids and then hit about 12 more after lunch. All in all it is a 9 mile trail. Lunch was easy and good! The guide set up tons of lunch meat, chicken salad, and cheeses and you build your own a big sandwich. They also had watermelon and cookies. It was the perfect amount. Jumping off of jump lake rock was a highlight of the day! The trip took a little over 5 hours because the water level was pretty low. I probably wouldn't go again in August. These were class 3 rapids but I am eager to try class 5 now. If I came back I would certainly be booking with the trading post again. Tip: it'd be smart to book with a group so your not stuck with un-adventurous duds in your raft like we were. read more

These guys are great. Very professional, very fun, and make you feel very safe. We did the Upper Yough at higher than normal flows and these guys absolutely nailed the trip. If you get a chance to be in Smithy's boat, then you lucked out. He's the Lebron James of the Upper...hit every line, swan dived off a 12 ft rock onto a capsized raft, flipped it, and eddied out. Great time and great company. I will absolutely be using these guys when it's time to get out of the boat and into a raft. read more

They know the lines, it feels safer, and the bits of info about the area you get from them make it more fun. Our guide was polite and funny. On Saturday the 8th a group of friends did the lower Yough tour. It's an awesome experience. Our guide Kaleb was informative, kept us on track and with a little entertainment. He knew the river and kept the group safe. We are going to make this adventure a yearly event using The Trading Post. After doing the lower a few of us think we might do the upper. The best place to book a guided raft trip on the Lower or Upper Yough. High quality rafts, wet suits available if you need it , expert staff, good food, great prices. This is an efficiently run operation with great friendly people who know what they are doing. They also rent rafts to people who want to raft the Lower Yough by themselves. The folks at OTP help to make your experience in the little town of Ohiopyle the best it can be. Make sure you make a reservation in advance, or get to the shop early in the morning - especially on hot summer days - so that you can be sure to get the equipment you want or on the trip you want to be on. (I would personally recommend reserving in advance - WAY IN ADVANCE) If you are going on the Lower Yough by yourself (renting a raft for you and your friends to take down) make sure you get put-on times from the State Park in advance and organize a shuttle to get you back to put in at the end of your day. The State Park "shuttle" that you have to pay for at the little guard shack before you put on only gets you from the waters edge to the take out parking lot - you need to get yourself and your gear back to town at the end of the day. They also rent bikes!! I don't know much about this, have never rented bikes from them, but they appear to be new and/or in really good shape. The bike path is minutes from their door and goes for miles and mile and miles. Ohiopyle is a great place to spend a summer weekend. Lot's of stuff to do - kayaking, rafting, biking and Ohiopyle Trading Post can complete the weekend for you with all the equipment you need to do those activities. So much fun! read more

My wife and I did the lower Yough tour on Thursday, Aug. 20. The River was very low, but the guide truly made the best of it. We had Caleb as our guide. A 21 year old kid from Florida! 3 in a raft was fun! Loved floating in the River during a safe period. Becca, the woman that checks everyone in, was very welcoming and accommodating. My only advice for Caleb is to slow down a little while driving around curves. That was the riskiest part of the day! read more

We had a blast doing the guided Lower Yough. My only warnings are: wear water shoes!!!! I wore flip flops (the only waterproof shoes I had) and I had to be barefoot the whole time. It especially sucked getting in and out of the raft, as the rocks were slippery, my feet were slippery, and the flip flops would have been dangerous to wear (also being totally soaked). The second warning: wear sunscreen everywhere. Every single person in my group ended up bright red somewhere, most of us got it on our thighs, right above our knees. I though my shorts would cover that area (as did most of us) but we bounced around so much and got soaking wet so that our clothes ended up all mangled and crazy. Sunburn is no fun! Be prepared. Otherwise, have a great time. It's an exciting and memorable experience, and the guides are freakin awesome! read more

I wound up booking this on a day when there was a slight prediction for some rainy weather (was the perfect day). Well, I was the only one to book, so It was the guide and me, with two other guides kayaking down the river nearby. So just in case you are the only one to book when you call, you'll still be going. The guide was very knowledgable and personable, and I felt confident I knew what I was doing by the end (granted, he set up every rapid so that we went through with ease). And you can tell that all 3 of the guides love what they do. The whole trip was under 3 hours, most likely since it was just me there. I would absolutely go again and would recommend for anyone regardless of skill level. Just be willing to follow directions. read more

I was thrown out of our raft (of course on the first rapid) and the leader, Jeremy, came right to me on his kayak to help me down the rapid. Love these guys!! We used OTP yrs ago and were very happy so naturally booked our recent trip w them. Four of us took the Upper Yough trip Monday w various levels of experience from very little to "which end of the paddle do i use?" We were the only 4 guests on the trip and we had a blast!! Our guides, Chaz and the Booster, were so experienced and obviously knowledgeable that they set us at ease immediately. Even at low water levels the river was a challenge and just about as much excitement as I was interested in. These guys go hard at the river and obviously love it which is infectious.
