We recently had our wedding at The River Club, and the entire experience from start to finish was outstanding. Angela, Maria, Nicki, and their entire staff were incredibly kind, patient, and welcoming throughout the whole process. Even before the big day, their level of organization really stood out. They answered all of our questions promptly and even brought up planning details we hadn't thought of, which helped us feel prepared and confident. The tasting event was also a fun and memorable part of the planning process. One thing that made the planning process easier was how much The River Club had available for us to borrow, including items like cake stands, easels, table numbers, and other helpful details. These small touches saved us time, money, and stress. They also allowed us to drop off a lot of our decor weeks in advance, which helped us feel more relaxed leading up to the big day. It was clear from the beginning that their team was not only experienced, but also truly invested in helping make everything smooth and stress-free. On the day of the wedding, everything exceeded expectations. As soon as I arrived at the venue, I was greeted by the full staff, which was such a warm and reassuring way to start the day. Weddings can be overwhelming, but they made me feel like everything was under control the moment I walked in. The communication between The River Club and our vendors was seamless, and they executed our vision perfectly, better than we could have imagined. Our bridal party was also very impressed with the bridal suite. We loved being able to use both the indoor and outdoor areas for photos, relaxing, and spending time together before the ceremony. It was a great setup that made the day even more enjoyable. The venue itself is beautiful. It is just 10 minutes from the Scituate Lighthouse, a popular and scenic location for pre-ceremony photos. The space feels unique and open, and many of our guests commented on how nice it was to have room to walk around, mingle, and enjoy both the dancing and quieter areas. The bar area was also a big hit, with plenty of space for socializing. If you are considering dessert, we highly recommend the Grand Finale. Our guests absolutely loved it, along with all the food throughout the night. People also kept mentioning how nice it was to have such a large and welcoming bar area, which added a fun and relaxed atmosphere to the evening. While this review highlights many of the reasons we loved The River Club, there were so many incredibly thoughtful touches and moments of support that went beyond what we expected. Venue is beautiful & food was great. Downfall - Angela is not great to work with. She initially told us we could use our own vendor for donut wall (prior to booking) then once we put deposit down to book, we found out that we could only use their vendor. That should have been red flag #1. My photographers & Dj's had worked with Angela before and they BOTH warned me that she can be very difficult to work with. She gave push back for a few things (like me requesting for my photographer, videographer and dj to go up and eat before me) but I had to just explain this is a wish that I want for THEM so they can eat and continue the job. Drinks are insanely overpriced. My guests complained so much about how overpriced the drinks were that tasted basically like water. I do not recall the price but I do believe above 14$ for a mixed drink. That was not the biggest issue of the night. They overcharged us for children's meals for adult price so when we let them know, they told us they'd have a check on our wedding night. On our wedding night - without telling us directly, they took it upon themselves to "use that money for drinks". We had a "tab". Angela did NOT ask if this is what we wanted instead of a check. This was 150$ that we would have gotten in check form but instead drinks. It was very odd. If this was questioned then we would have been fine for the alternative but it was sneaky to not ask bride and groom if a check or a tab of 150 in drinks was wished upon. Day of wedding - one of her workers who was with us the entire night was so unbelievably rude that I thought he was kidding. He told one of my bridesmaids to "wipe that look off of her face" - she was just standing there watching us while a few of us were having a conversation with him. He made jokes that were so not appropriate and made me (the bride) and my ENTIRE bridal party insanely uncomfortable. One of my bridesmaids asked his name and when she repeated it to understand, he mocked her. He was honestly horrible. My bridal party and parents continued to talk about how disrespectful he was months after our wedding. It was one of those things where if this job bothers you as you are with nervous excited brides and their bridal party? Then this is NOT the job for you. He also "made" my entire bridal party watch him cut the top of a champagne bottle with a knife. This was NOT apart of the wedding plan and it was done about 15-20 minutes before the ceremony. It was not necessary and should have been asked "do you mind if we get everyone together to for ____ to happen".. he also got stern with everyone when they were talking during it. My stepson and his beautiful new bride were married at this gorgeous venue this past Friday, 6/13/25. The grounds and building were just beautiful. The area where the actual ceremony took place was perfect. There were rocks with water trickling down through them as the couple exchanged their vows under a stunning gazebo. To back up for a minute, several wedding guests were staying at nearby hotels and took shuttle buses to the venue. Because the groom's Dad is also my husband, lol, the way the entire staff treated the guests and especially the family was something I had never experienced before....I felt famous, lol!!!! The staff were completely on point all night. Our family especially loved Elaine. She, along with every other staff person we spoke with, were nothing but professional, personable, and beyond nice, but in a genuine way. I don't think any of the family had to ask for a single thing all night, because the staff were right there checking on us (without barely being seen, lol), and we never had to ask for a thing the entire night. The meal was delicious, too. The choices were chicken cordon blue and filet mignon. Both were cooked to perfection. The accompanying mashed potatoes, asparagus and warm rolls were excellent, too. How the staff managed to get all of the plates out and served warm was beyond me, but they did it! The bartenders were on point, too, all personable and fun. I also fell in love with the decor of the place. I especially loved the tiny white lights hanging from the ceiling. They gave off a beautiful romantic glow, perfect for a wedding. Other guests also commented on and loved the passed appetizers and champagne bar set up outside, both were awesome additions. My family attended a wedding at the River Club over the weekend. The Venue itself was wonderful......From there...It's all downhill. The 3 bartenders were rude, condescending and arrogant. Maybe that's what their nicknames were. At least they gave people at the wedding who didn't now each other a topic of discussion....which there were many. I did let one of the doormen know about the bartenders.....he said he already knew as I wasn't the first to let him know. I then ran into the woman who was in charge of the wedding. She was completely oblivious to any issues and defended them. Apparently, she doesn't read yelp. As for the food......Meh....steak was tough 4 oz cut...wife had the pasta. Her words....."inedible". Salmon was "mush". In closing....This would be a great place to hold a wedding (As the venue is beautiful) if everyone in attendance did not drink and had a pot luck dinner. read more

Absolutely gorgeous venue and the food was excellent too. It would be a 5 star place if leadership addressed the issues noted by a number of reviewers specific to the banquet staff. Servers were excellent for most part- working hard and very friendly and helpful but manager was unfriendly and one out of two of the bartenders was curt and didn't seem to want to be there. Fortunately, the wonderful energy of our group negated all bad vibes and we had a great day anyways. As a former people manager overseeing a large staff I recommend leadership work on hospitality and customer relations training at all levels. read more

Waiting a week after the wedding to write this review. The bartenders here are a joke. They are not bartenders they are event managers who have to bartend for the night. As a bartender in Boston, I watched them pour about a half ounce of alcohol into a drink and charge us $14 for it. It legit hurt my soul. They wouldn't allow shots? But allowed us to buy two drinks at once and double fist. It's the SAME THING. Someone in our group tried to order a vodka on the rocks and they said no. Right next to us, another guest asked another bartender for a tequila rocks and the bartender gave it to them. We asked our bartender what the double standard was about and they walked away. An absolute joke. They didn't know how to make a margarita. Hire some real bar staff. Never book here if you want your guest to drink and have fun. read more

Amazing Wedding! My son and his bride got married this past Friday at the River Club. The staff and owner, Angela; were way over the top helpful and wonderful. The venue was gorgeous and pristine, inside and outside. Jean, who was my person to take care of the mother of the groom was beyond words so helpful to me. Makes me cry just thinking of her and having her there for me. Seig (spelling) was my son's person and again, amazing is to overused but I can't help it. Erin; super helpful; Maria and everyone else was the best. I have no complaints at all. The food was plentiful, too plentiful if there is such a thing; and delicious. If you are looking for a place for your wedding or any event, I couldn't recommend it any more than 100% best place. I came here for a concert even though it's a wedding venue. Brides if you are looking for a great place which has a beautiful garden too this is your place. I enjoyed walking around the grounds before the show very much. It was a seated concert, which makes it very nice to enjoy your show. The sound system was awesome, the performer who I had come to see did an amazing job. The staff are very friendly, all together a very pleasant place and good time. We unfortunately had to reschedule our original wedding due to COVID, and Angela was nothing but supportive and unbelievably kind during the entire experience! When we finally got to our rescheduled wedding day, it was truly a dream come true! Angela, Nikki, and the rest of the River Club staff made sure the day ran smoothly, made sure everything we brought was where it was supposed to be, and most importantly, made sure my husband and I always had food and drinks! It took everything in me to hold out on posting a review about here until post wedding. If you are an organized person (or even somebody that wants your special day to be stress free), my recommendation is to NOT use The River Club as a vendor. I did a lot of research looking for venues to see which ones fulfilled what I thought were my must haves. As to many, the venue is appealing due to the straight forward - or so I thought - approach for no rental or hidden fees. I should have caught on from the start but my husband and I decided to move forward with this venue. We ended up arranging multiple face to face meetings. I took detailed notes answering all the questions I came with and outlined items per our conversation. After these meetings, just weeks before my wedding, more than once Angela took back something she agreed upon. She lied and contradicted herself in multiple scenarios which she then stumbled when I called her out but Angela always won and got the final say.I wish all communication was housed in emails as I had to defend myself and use it for backup on more than one occasion. When I would forward this information her way (which is absolutely asinine that I have to do in the first place) she would respond unprofessional, snarky and hostile. The day of ended up being beautiful for us. I wish I had every persons name that helped things come together. This isn't Angela, it's her wonderful staff. Angela helicopters over you all day long. She intrudes on the Bride in an already crowded bridal suite, gets in the way of your photos and comes over to your sweetheart table every 5 minutes. Some advice to the owner - I recommend learning some e-mail etiquette and common courtesy. Own up to your mistakes. You'll continue to look foolish if your Bride/Groom have to keep YOU on top of your responsibilities, commitments and deposits. If you want to promote your venue to be fee free you shouldn't get displeased when your Bride doesn't buy in to every one of your add ons. Also back out of the day of work and trust your staff. You assigned your team to me day of and every 30 seconds I had you trailing behind them asking the same thing. You shouldn't even be there. Learn the difference between being attentive and being annoying. Go do behind the scenes work and have your daughter be the coordinator. You're destroying your business with your fake and unprofessional personality. Brides, read the reviews...people aren't lying. PS - if you rent the house behind the property, the maintenance man DOES live in the basement full time! Don't let her deny this one;) read more

From the moment my wife and I saw this venue we knew it was the one. Angela was all that you could want and more in a venue proprietor. She was very well organized and attentive to all our concerns and needs. Her staff is also impeccable and make sure your day runs smoothly. During the reception they would ask if my wife or I needed anything. It was very professional. We had a late October wedding and it was approx. 70 degrees and sunny. With that kind of weather it made the venue even more picturesque than it already was. Angela added some little touches here and there to make it feel more like autumn such as pumpkins, which my wife and I loved. Go here you will not be disappointed. I've attended several weddings here this past summer and I have to say how completely blown away I was each time. The venue is beautiful, the staff was amazing, and the food- unreal. You can tell that they love what they do. I have several allergies and the staff was very accomidating. The bartenders always had a smile and although the bar was completely packed, surprisingly got my drinks pretty quickly. All around great experiences, from start to finish. Here's a good word to sum up The River Club: novice. Nothing wrong with that, mind you; but if you go, you should go bearing that in mind. The parking lot attendant wave flashlights in a manner that makes it immediately clear that they were not trained on how to direct traffic. That's not really so bad, considering it's a pretty small venue. The coffee service is $2 per cup, and is on the honor system. The opening act is the owner's son. Granted he has released CDs, so it's not like they had their "funny cousin George" kick things off, but he did play for 45 minutes and shouldn't have. The bar is adjacent to the stage, separated by a door, so you can hear bar conversation while the musical act is performing. The main room itself is a mix of giant stone fireplace, fake floral arrangement from Michael's, modern black light fixtures, a chandelier, and function hall chairs all lined up. That said, The River Club is in my hometown, which means that I got to see Lori McKenna in an intimate setting about a mile from where I live. She was awesome. The "club" itself? They could use some help in getting their act and decor together, but I liked sitting on a bar stool in the very back and having the owner ask if he could crack a window for me. read more

Oh, and don't even think about ordering a shot... not allowed. Only over ice or in a mixed drink... actually they said no to that as well after telling us that's the only way they serve liquor. The venue is beautiful, but don't be fooled it's not near any real water. You can see the river and marsh across the street. Went to a wedding reception at the river club recently. The service was very slow and the food came out over the course of 30 minutes, so by the time the people who got their meal first were done eating, others had not received their plates. Bar tending was also very slow. Stood at the bar for more than 10 minutes waiting for a drink at times. Staff did not go out of their way to be kind or helpful. The woman who ran the event was extremely controlling and rude. I would never return there. For the price they charge for these events there is definitely a better value out there! read more

The Short Version: If you don't want to deal with an extremely rude and controlling woman, pick another venue. The actual venue is decent, but the staff, particularly the head lady, Angela, was so awful to the bride, the mother of the bride, and to the entire bridal party that this was almost an unbearable reception. The Long Version: The actual venue is very pleasant, although not anywhere near as nice as described on their website. Half of the pictures shown on their site are taken across a main road that isn't even on their property. The actual property is ok I guess but you had better visit to see for yourself if you don't want to be surprised by the misleading online photos. The absolutely worst part of the whole experience was Angela, the manager. She is who you will work with the entire process, so there is no doubt that this is a severe problem. She is not only rude but also extremely controlling. At several points during preparations she raised her voice to the bride and the bride's mother out of the blue The day before the wedding when we were decorating the venue (centerpieces, floral arrangements, etc.) Angela numerous times told those decorating that they couldn't put certain flowers in certain places and that we could not add things around her current decorations. She literally told us how we needed to decorate for our own wedding. After being totally rude to everyone, Angela and one of her staffers decided to show up at THE WEDDING uninvited. If that was all it wouldn't have been a big deal. However, they decided to get up in front all the guest and take pictures of the wedding on their ipad! Moving around the bride and groom, both in front and behind them, like they owned the place. This blocked our photographers and those trying to enjoy the wedding, as well as continually distracted the bride and groom who couldn't believe what they were doing. I will try to summarize the rest of the reception quickly. Angela received two cakes from the bakery; After explicitly telling her several times and two of her staff only to cut the one cake, she cut both. One was not to be cut and caused a lot of problems. Also, she yelled, in front of the departing guests, at two children who were taking a croissant after the "end of the reception" implying that taking a left over croissant was stealing because our time was over. My mother saw this and went over to mediate only to be yelled at and lectured on how "at a buffet you don't get to take anything home with you." It was a croissant...a CROISSANT. She lost her mind at two children and the mother of the bride over food she was going to throw away after we left anyways. The moral of the story is that those running the River Club in Scituate are without a doubt the least professional, least pleasant people in the world and that you can and should absolutely not consider them for your upcoming wedding or event. I recently attended a wedding here. Nice place as far as the venue and location. Food wasn't bad but it did take them forever to get everyone served. What really blew me away was the extremely rude staff. Not everyone mind you, just a few but I think one was the manager or woman in charge. I heard her berating her employees, the entertainment and several others. I would NEVER go here again by choice just because of her. The food was excellent - our guests are still commenting on how good the food was. The place itself required very little additional decorating because its so pretty as is. Went to a fundraiser recently. First time being in this place. I give the layout, decor and service 4-5 stars. But the food was bad! And a lot of people that have been here before say that it has always been bad. The appetizers were decent, but everything else was horrible. I don't know whether it was supposed to be chicken cacciatore, but the chicken was cut smaller than I would cut it for a toddler. See the flower next to the word Yelp? The chicken were that size. Angela, the owner and coordinator, was able to take my husband's and my wishes for our wedding and bring them to life with little direction from us. I had so much anxiety about the centerpieces and decor being set up to our liking, but when I saw the room, I was relieved to see everything was so beautiful and perfect! Angela kept everything running smoothly, coordinating with the other vendors for us, and her team was very attentive to the wedding party and to any of our special requests. We were so thankful she allowed our dog to be a part of our ceremony, too. The dinner was delicious and we heard so many compliments on the food throughout the night. I heard about this venue through my friend, who had her dream wedding at river club last year. She was saying Angela is really nice to work with throughout the planning process and she had all that she wanted on her wedding day. My experience working with Angela is exactly the same way. Although I am changing my plan constantly, she is always smiling and trying to make my dream wedding come true. I enjoyed every minute working with her. I remember I was later for one hour that day for our appointment and Angela did not say anything except telling me she will wait for me and she understands my difficulty. At that time, I was so sure that I picked the right venue! The venue is stunning as you can already tell from the tons of images that they have online. The golden color in the fall is my favorite. Besides that, a lot of venues charge the venue fee on top of the food and drink, some of them even charge a couple hundreds extra for the on-site ceremony, while River Club charges for food and drink ONLY!! Updated review! Last time I posted, it was a review of how the wedding planning process was going with The River Club. We had our wedding and - it was amazing, beautiful, fun, perfect - it sounds totally cliche but it truly was the best day of our lives. One thing that was neat is that the staff wear (very discrete) headsets so they can communicate easily and freely no matter where they are. This worked out nicely when the bus we rented to transport guests parked around the back, behind the gazebo. Angela (the coordinator) immediately realized that we would have had a big yellow bus in the background of all of our pictures (!). She communicated same into her headset, and a staff member that was closest to the bus ran over to it and had the driver move. The bus wasn't in a single picture. I didn't even know that happened - someone told me after the fact. My photographer was also very impressed with The River Club. She said she couldn't believe how fast the staff cleared away empty glasses/plates, and she said that, as a photographer, that is a huge thing, because she hates having messy tables in the background of her photos. These are little details that all come together and make for a beautiful and smooth (or not so beautiful and smooth!) wedding day. So many of our guests were impressed with our venue - and we were too! You picture how everything will look in your head but when they swing those doors open and you see everything set up - wow. My wife and I held our daughter's wedding reception at The River Club last May. Terrific venue and decent food in spite of the wrong entree being served for dinner. However, we encountered a nightmare scenario with the owner, Angela, where she attempted to extort thousands of dollars from us on a bar bill which was so outrageous that we ended up in court. What she failed to realize is that my wife has been in the beverage industry for 20 years as opposed to some naive couple, primed to be taken advantage of. We held a meeting with the owners the following week providing complete documentation and cost breakdown from the wedding but gained nothing accept to have Angela make personal attacks towards my wife and I. One of the owners told us that he never had a complaint in 40 years, however this is a curious claim as there as Yelp reviews from Dennis M. and Jim B. last summer that compromise that statement. What was particularly disturbing is the amount of the open bar which was estimated be x and ended up being 10x. We shared the data from the 90 minute bar bill with 3 local venues and each Owner/GM said the same said after seeing the breakdown from the bar bill. These comments were that the bill "outrageous", "criminal" and virtually impossible to serve that amount of liquor to 165 people in 90 minutes (this was to average nearly 8 drinks per guest). Placing aside the unprofessional judgment and total lack of responsibility, this was criminal. This was a wedding not a frat party. There was no documentation of this as they do not use a Point of Sale system, hence it was impossible to validate the number of drinks. Certainly any reputable venue would use a POS system for such activity but perhaps there are reasons that are between The River Club and the IRS. Finally, to add insult to injury the owner actually sent a text message to our daughter, two days into her honeymoon, requesting the "need to speak". The owner knew that anything financial were handled by my wife and I. We have never seen a more cold, insensitive and classless act. There are a number of great options for wedding venues in the South Shore without having to deal with the ownership, the likes of the River Club. read more

First of all, I found The River Club online. I was so impressed by the pictures that I could not wait to see it in person. It definitely did NOT let me down. From the first meeting with Angela (who is amazing), we did not look any further. This was it and I could not wait. We called her back, set the date, and it was on! Angela went over the changes that were going to be made. They added in a Cinderella staircase (seriously I was a princess for the day!) and they were going to be renting out the childhood home on the property as well. It was perfect! We rented the house in the back as soon as we could give her the deposit. It has 4 bedrooms, 3 living rooms, corn hole, fire pit, grill, it was literally perfect. Thursday before the wedding we had the rehearsal dinner---- we had Italian (delicious!). Friday night the girls stayed at the house with me while the guys stayed at a hotel so we weren't together the night before. One of the propane tanks ran out so we sent a text to the caretaker that stays in the apartment above the house and the guy came and got it, filled it, and brought it back! I told Angela I was ready to write a review without even having the wedding yet! The day of our wedding went perfect! Angela was in control and her staff was amazing! I loved all of them. The food was outstanding as well! If you are looking for your perfect venue you HAVE to stop here and check it out! It would be impossible to not fall in love with it all!!!! I went to a concert here a few weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised. First of all, the venue is landscaped beautifully and I can see why one would want to have their wedding there. Secondly, it was a pretty decent place for a concert. The sound system worked well. The way the seating was set up was the first 6 rows were general admission seating for people who payed $10 extra for their ticket. The rest of the rows were general admission seating for the lower ticket price. I bought a seat in the first 6 rows and I was happy with it. I like to be up close at concerts so it was worth it for $10 extra. The people who ran the venue all seemed pretty nice. Parking was free and easy. I would not hesitate to return. read more

This was our fifth visit and we went to listen to the local eight piece musical group, The Gathering. Great vocal renditions done of popular music. They performance was so very good that they got everybody off their chairs to dance. Great to hear and fun to watch them perform. The venue was not too crowded this time but the band played like their it standing room only. The hall offers great acoustics. Chairs and tables were plentiful. read more

I was blown away by the incredible service at the River Club. I am shocked by some of the reviews I just read because my experience was the exact opposite, in particular the owner Angela. She was gracious and professional to our entire party... a class act. We attended a recent fundraiser and found the entire staff to be extremely accommodating. The food was fantastic, the bartenders were quick and hospitable. The overall atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I'd highly recommend the River Club to any family or friends looking for a top notch venue. read more
