Moto only has about 6 tables so on Friday and Saturday night it can get filled up. They will take a reservation if you are coming in soon, so I often call and see if they are busy and ask them to hold me table if I'm headed there within a short time. The food at Moto has been very consistent over the years. It is simple no-frills Japanese food and sushi. If you are visiting from America you will probably find the selection of fish somewhat limited, however, that is the case with most sushi bars/restaurants in New Zealand so Moto is par-for-the-course in this regard. What I truly love about Moto and why they get my business over and over again is that the prices are very reasonable and the food is served quickly. My personal favourite is the Sashimi box--Miso, Rice, Tempura, Salad, Sashimi and Sushi--for $17. It is just the right amount of food and that is a very hard price to beat. If you are looking for simple, well-prepared, no-frills and quick Japanese in Parnell, you can't beat Moto.

Moto is super small and the staff are lovely. I come here with a friend who works in Parnell once a week or so and the sushi is just too much for me. You get 8 pieces and there is a lot of rice, I guess I am picky so I usually just have the edamame beans. I am always amazed at how quickly the sushi is made. Five minutes and it is on the table, it is like they have it sitting out the back ready made (I'm sure they don't) they're just super fast. There are a couple of other sushi places in Parnell and this is one of the better ones. I find the music choice amusing, they play pop music, often Maroon 5, I'd give them an extra half star for that if I could.

First off, hats off to the owners for doing such an impeccable job on the decor and design. From the intricate restaurant design, the lush comfy chairs, the menu layout, the mocktails, and even the rustic bathrooms were all very impressive. Now let's get down to the food. We started off with the shumai dumplings with peanut sauce. The skin of the shumai was so soft and thin which I truly appreciate because you can taste the stuffing better. The peanut sauce was nutty and savory and extremely addicting! Next we had the salt and pepper tofu with a vinegar sauce. The flavors here were a bit flat and needed more of a peppery taste but the presentation of this dish made it worth it. The chicken satay was super tender and juicy. The creamy sauce with the savory clear vinegar sauce worked really well together. The ribs had a yummy flavor but the meat could have been a bit softer. I recommend doing a broil for the ribs at the end so the sauce gets a nice caramel. To top it off we ended the night with the mango pudding. It was a hard decision but we liked the refreshing flavors. There was a lot of stuff going on in this dessert, but was still impressed with the details in textures. We hope to be back here one day!

It was a great night - the restaurant had a lovely ambience, the service was good and most importantly, the food was delicious!!! So delicious that I really wanted to come back and try their lunch menu. When a recent Grabone deal popped up, it was the perfect opportunity! I booked a table for two ahead of time and I'm so glad I did! We arrived at 1pm on a beautiful sunny Saturday and the place was absolutely packed! Our table was right by the huge windows that open out onto Nuffield Street. They have ample seating, with a great indoor/outdoor flow and it definitely felt like we were in a European city - such a cool vibe! We ordered a Mojito ($14.50), the Mussels ($18.50) and the Moorish Eggs with Turkish Pide Bread ($17.50). The mojito was very refreshing on the hot summers day and instead of being overly sweet, it was minty and had a good amount of lime in it. My Mum had the mussels and she thoroughly enjoyed them - the flavours were a perfect balance of garlic, chilli and lemon. The Moorish eggs were delicious as well. After seeing many Instagram photos of the Moorish eggs, I just knew I had to order them! At $17.50, one would think it is too steep, but it was actually very filling! The dish consists of 3 eggs and 6 meatballs in a rich tomato sauce, plus Turkish Pide bread on the side. It was very yummy and it would make a great comfort meal in the winter! The service was friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our food. Highly recommend Tasca - it's a great place for all occasions whether it be a function, a birthday, a date night or best of all, a lazy Sunday afternoon!
