A boxing-themed pub - the first I've ever seen. Stopped in for a weekday company lunch. Thai appetizers begin at GBP 3.00, entrees begin at GB 6.50, very competitive for the area. Portions are definitely more than adequate, able to satisfy most hungry, middle aged men. Outdoor bench seating is abundant though not necessarily a great place to carry on a conversation - the intersection is much too busy with foot and vehicular traffic thanks to the Southwark tube station. read more

Excellent location pub right near to Southwark station. So no issues at all organising a meet up here! When I used to work in the area, I'd been here once for lunch It's not very large inside, but there are a bunch of tall seats by the window and tables dotted around the bar area. Food was okay. I'd ordered a hot dog that was supplied by Big Apple Hot Dogs. At the time this was when their popularity was steadily rising. It was a good dog. The wedges were alright. Being seated at the window, it was quite enjoyable people watching. Well apart from the poor person who was obviously having a bad day and screaming down the phone at somebody whilst contemplating whether to take one of the two shots they had sitting on the bench table in front of them. In all, it's an alright pub. Nothing special. Only thing that really stands out is the location. Just at the top of The Cut, it opens up many more a better venue as you stroll further down the road towards Waterloo. read more

Quite frankly this place is stumbling distance from Southwark station, and nicer than we expected, especially with two gin and tonics coming to just a tenner. We were pleasantly surprised. The menu (they do food that looked good too) had a paragraph on the history of the place, and the reasoning for "rocky" on the telly and black and white boxing snaps on the wall. It was a little noisy, though pretty much only down to one rowdy numpty on the next table, but not too loud to have a conversation, full bar, decent bar snacks, and very lovely staff, one in particular seemed to remember absolutely everyone's order, and there were a lot of people in there. read more

The Good: This place was local awesome! We stumbled upon this place after going to a highly rated local pub, just to learn they were closed because of bank holiday! This place was very close to the tube and it was raining so we thought, why not! It was me and my 23 year old daughter and we are American so of course we ordered the fish & chips!!! They were outstanding! The beer selection on tap was great; the bar tenders and servers were perfect. The atmosphere was great. We were enjoying ourselves so much that we stayed for three rounds! Filled with boxing paraphernalia and photographs, the Ring is no longer a boxing club, or an old-tymey pub, for that matter. It's pretty modern and clean and nice but not so modern and clean and nice that I start getting antsy. Best part about the Ring? Like many of the local pubs in the area they serve Thai food. But at the Ring it's good!! Seriously! (I know, I know, who would have thunk it). And the pints are decently priced and there's outdoor seating and there's free wi-fi! If you want more from a pub, you're way too high maintenance for me, sister. read more

Was in the London Bridge area on Saturday and wanted to watch the Grand National,and with not many pubs having sport was glad to stumble across this place. The Ring is ideally located at the exit of the Southwark station and fairly close to my place so i've here a few times for an end-of-the-day pint or two (or three). The pub looks great from the inside and out and the decoration revolves around the theme of boxing, hence the name. Apparently, there used to be a boxing ring right across from its location. You'll find a sitting area outside (it's heated) and a small pub and then dinning area inside. The service is nice and quick. They accept credit cards. I usually order the London Lager, and i would recommend it. In the evening it gets crowded rapidly and you will appreciate the horde thrown up the entrance, gathering around the heaters while smoking and chatting loudly, rather tipsy and stumbling on one another. Having fled the trendy crowds slumming it at The Anchor and Hope, we ducked into The Ring (directly opposite Southwark tube). I had the burger (worse than McDonalds) but my friend had the Pad Thai (surprisingly, not bad). Reasonably priced (comparable to what you would pay in the US for Thai food). The other patrons were really nice -- when our waiter forgot knives and forks (hard to eat Pad Thai without it) -- the girls at the next table recognized that my fiancee was helpless and got some from the bartender without asking (I was hemmed in). read more

We just got to London wandering around trying to find a different pub that when we got there the kitchen was closed. We walked a couple more blocks and saw the ring. We decided to give it a try. I ordered the pole with chili beef and onions and jalapeños on the side. The hot dog had a wonderful flavor with a nice crisp bite to the dog. It was quite yummy. My husband ordered the raging bull. It was quite massive. Somehow he managed to devour the whole thing. He even ate all the French fries. Our friends ordered the fish and chips it was quite a large portion of fish. It came with smashed green peas seasoned with mint. He did not care for the peas. He liked the fish he said the batter was crispy. Our other friend ordered the burger with the chili. She liked it. I tried to order dessert but they no longer have it. It was a delightful dinner. read more

A group of Qypers popped in here after the Modern Architecture walk last week (and you should check out the events group for more fun things by the way). The initial plan was to end up in the Windmill, but come 8.30 the sun had gone in, the wind was making us gold and this was the nearest pub. And I like it a lot. I'm not a huge fan of boxing, so the memorabilia means nothing to me, but it's not like they're actually boxing in the pub is it? The staff are friendly, the drinks are VERY cheap (three large glasses of wine for £12? YES PLEASE! It was kinda fun ordering each glass a different colour. Yep, this was the night we invented Neopolitan wine. Fun! And the chips were tasty tasty! I'd come back just for those. But I don't think I actually would come back. There's nothing about the place that grabs me, but it's very very good. I guess it's just missing that extra special something. But, I'm fussy and it's a great pub. If you're in the area, you really should pop in. i wouldn't complain to much if you took me for a pint there either. read more

One of my reliable spots any time I fancy a pint in Southwark - you couldn't ask for much more. Excellent selection of well-kept beers, my stalwart choice being Brakspear's Oxford Gold. Pleasant and convivial atmosphere - normally a good bunch of people with a diverse mix - blokes fresh off the building site, to suited office workers, via students and theatre-goers. Outside seating is a joy - there's plenty of it and you can usually slip on the end of a bench if you ask nicely. Thai food (what is it with pubs and Thai food?) here is allegedly of a good standard, and Lina below seems to agree, but I haven't had it so shan't pass comment. All in all, well worth going to if you're in the area, but don't make it a destination pub! read more

Staying around the corner from this cute little place. The first night we stumbled in and it was raining out so the bartender recommended a warm cider, it was served with an orange wedge, and we absolutely loved it. We finished off the night with some of the best chicken strips I have probably ever had and some french fries with a garlic aoli sauce to dip. We also shared the Caesar salad it wasn't our favorite, but still ok. But the service is great and so are the drinks and I hear the hot dogs are the best. Now I have spent many a night (and far too much of my wages) in this little pub on the corner of The Cut opposite Southwark tube. It was tredied up- but in a good way, about 5 years ago, it has a friendly atmosphere, great staff and pretty decent food (mainly thai for around a fiver). Good in the summer with the tables outside. The best bit are the pictures of boxers on the wall from a bygone age. The place used to be an old mans pub with a very bright green carpet and it had, for many years, a boxing ring upstairs. Wouldn't bother with the cocktails, if you are after them ask where Jacks is around the corner - The Rings larger trendier big brother. read more

Quite a lot has changed since I first visited, but The Ring is still a bit of a shrine to the noble art of boxing. The walls are covered in boxing memorabilia, of posters of fights and boxers past. The upstairs boxing ring and gym are long gone and the people who run the bar no longer look like ex-pugilists and trainers. It's a bit of a disappointment on the real beer front, and gets VERY busy early evening. read more

We liked this place so much, we ate dinner here twice while staying in Southwark. The staff was so nice and friendly, the atmosphere was fun and welcoming, the food was great, and the beer selection was good. Plenty of outdoor space, but we stayed inside. A variety of patrons here from young to old, partiers to couples having dinner. Definitely a nice pub feel but with good food, too! The steak and ale pie was divine. read more

London Corner Pub with Hotdogs. Although I felt the barman might judge me for ordering the Big Frank and asking him to smother it in Onions and ram a few chips in there too. He did not. When the Big Frank came I felt I wouldn't be able to tackle the length. But here I am, that Frank got Smashed and I'd even go back again for another although I will probably leave it a few weeks to recover. As I had a few pints of Doombar also. Whilst the food was quite good, the beer is best described as overpriced, and the service neanderthal - if you're popping in for a quick pint - there's nowhere better. A good pub, with a chilled out, relaxed atmosphere. The location is great - the outside area is surprisingly spacious for being slap bang on The Cut. The staff are nice enough. Just one of those places you know that you can fall back on in one of those indecisive "where shall we meet?" panic moments. read more

A nice little pub with a pugilist theme and reasonably cheap drinks. It has gastro aspirations and the food is pretty good. The kitchen and the bar apparently operate independently from one another, so you could sit around for a long while waiting for the loan waitress to emerge for you to place your order. Also, slightly suspect is the fact that you can't pay for food with a credit card, but if you buy £5 worth of drinks at the bar you can get cash back. Not sure how that works. Show up with time to kill and cash to avoid these complications. read more

The pub itself was quite nice, but I was told that to drink after a certain time you have to be over 21. I suppose this policy is designed to keep the students from all the nearby university residences out, but I doubt many of them are interested in paying as much as this pub charges for drinks, anyway. This is the only pub that I've ever visited which enforces such a rule. Don't waste your time going in here unless you're over 21 or you enjoy being turned away from the bar like some underage 16-year-old. read more

We stopped by this place one night and ordered a couple of beers and some food at the bar. I chose the Big Frank, the hotdog they're known for, and my spouse ordered the Ring Burger, a Hamburger. Each of us pointing to the item as we read it to the bartender. We sat down at a table with our beers and waited for our food. Two plates come out, one has my Big Frank, and the other has Nachos. I take my Big Frank, and my spouse, after doing a double take, tells the waiter boy that he had not ordered the Nachos but instead a Hamburger. Waiter boy looked confused and went back to the kitchen with the Nachos. Out of good manners, I will wait until my spouse has his food before eating mine. After a few moments, waiter boy comes out with the Sampler Platter. Waiter boy is even more confused at this point, my spouse has to go up to the bar and point out what he ordered to the waiter boy and to the bartender we ordered from. They both apologize and we sit back down. His burger finally comes out and we can begin eating. Mmmm, hotdogs are so good cold. As we're eating, the bartender comes out and tells us that we owe $5 more because he didn't put the order in right and we were under charged. I ask if they could overlook the difference since they made a mistake, twice. After stumbling with his words and trying to save his own ass he says he understands our point-of-view, but his manager says since we had ordered the Hamburger in the first place, we were already going to pay the full price. So we paid it, ate, and left. Won't be back. The fries were good though. read more

Friendly pub, with old pictures of boxers throughout - the pub stands on the site of a historical boxing ring. Quite small in size but warm and cosy. The outdoor seating is on the main road, but that does not seem to be much of a problem. Standard selection of drinks with one or two interesting bottled beers. They serve English and Thai food, which looks quite nice, but I haven't actually tried it. Great for a midweek get together, or a pre-theatre drink. read more

Ok, I don't drink a lot of beer, but my friends do. Instead I had a Grey Goose vodka with soda. I drank four over the period of an hour and half and did not feel any effect. Also could not taste the vodka. Every time I ordered one, I was asked if I wanted a double shot, double the cost for one drink. Also, they call there hot dogs, hot dogs when in fact they are a sausage. They were alright. The atmosphere and chips were good. read more

Awesome little pub, had a great evening in there recently. Can get really busy so be sure to get in sharpish to bag a good table. Draught ales are very well looked after and the selection rotates regularly. Love the boxing photo's on the walls, a good bit of London history! Great décor, really well kept beer and friendly staff. I'm not a regular there but have often used it as a meeting point before heading out for a night and it's a nice little place with a great vibe. Would recommend it to anybody. read more
