Great selection, knowledgeable staff. It's great to have a local riding store when you're out of a needed horse supply!

I moved to Madison, so English tack shops are harder to come by in Wisconsin. Though, when I was in Chicago, I still never got the opportunity to come out to Saddler's Row. It's well worth the trip. I went on the second to last day of the sale, so being of average size, I wasn't able to find too many things on super sale. It's a great deal if you don't care about name brands - many breeches were $10. Older style show shirts were also $10. I, however, tend to like nicer brands and I was still able to find some good things! I got a Kastel shirt for $73; I feel like those shirts rarely go on sale. They had a really good sale apart from the warehouse sale on sunshirts, and I got a Tailored Sportsman IceFil shirt for $34. They have a huge selection of tack, grooming, and other items. They also have a really great consignment area. Things are pretty well organized here, and I'm grateful for that. The ladies who work here are super nice! They're willing to answer any questions or help you out with anything. I came on National Helmet Awareness Day, so it was super busy, and they tried so hard to make sure everyone was getting the assistance they needed.

More than 20 minutes to just get in the door, an hour for boot fitting(honestly not that bad, and I appreciate the attentive staff). The issue was with the check out. FOUR HOURS OF WAITING JUST TO CHECK OUT. The line moved exceptionally slow and when we got to the front it was clear why. Only three people on registers. I think there were only two for a while. No sense of urgency or speed. Upon keeping track of time, they were averaging 10/15 minutes per customer. I want to be very clear that management should have planned better for this from the start... you incentivized a mad rush and weren't prepared for moving people through the store in a reasonable amount of time? As a customer, I feel not only irritated but slightly abused and taken advantage of. I love supporting local and a good sale, but there is absolutely no reason that line should have taken four hours to get through. Hire temporary help if you are having a massive sale. Spread the discount into two days. Don't box your discounts into such a narrow window. I felt taken advantage of in a weird way, and 40% off cost us an entire day. I expect better from saddlers row and am genuinely conflicted about ever participating in this again.

We set up lessons for 4 kids initially, which eventually became 5. Shannon was more than flexible and understanding of having to reschedule due to extreme heat on one scheduled lesson day, of one kid not being able to attend a lesson, or wanting to add another kid last minute. At any one lesson we had at least 3 kids and up to 5. Needless to say we have done SEVERAL lessons over the course of the summer. Each of the kids (ages almost 3 up to 9 yrs) has loved their experience with Shannon and her horses at Downtown Equestrian Center. All of the kids came to Shannon as complete novices. Their confidence and abilities have grown with each lesson. So far they have learned how to brush the horse, clean the hooves, saddle the horse (w help due to height &/or age), walk the horse out/in (again, assisted for the youngest), mount/dismount the horse, proper posture and hold, then ride the horse (walk, trot, stop, back up, turn, circle, walk over bars). The 7 & 9 year olds are now able to ride the horse without a lead assisting/guiding. This was a huge moment for them and sent their confidence/self-esteem through the roof. Shannon and her staff are also very thoughtful about their choices when pairing the kids with the horses. They take into consideration the horse's personality, age, size, & work for the day; the size and age of the kids are also factors in pairing. Even though one of the kids might have a particular preference, if that horse already rode for a lesson that day it does not go out again. That said, Shannon & her staff do their best to accommodate the kids, especially when they have bonded with a particular horse. The kids have now learned to ride 2-3 horses; learning their personality, temperament, and ride. I should also note that Shannon has helmets for the kids to use during lessons (also a must), which I appreciate since none of the kids yet own one. Of course, there are moments where Shannon will have to correct the kids; however, she never raises her voice-- she changes her tone, much like a parent needing to refocus their child's attention. Due to the number of kids and lessons, we have also had the pleasure of working with many of Shannon's staff. Each person has been kind and patient while working with the kids; moreover, they have been knowledgable and willing to teach the kids. A family member who has worked with horses & at equestrian centers for years came to the first lesson. She was pleased with the barn, lessons, horses, and overall conditions. Shannon was always respectful, even when their two "styles" differed. To address another review: Yes, it can be confusing upon your first arrival-- Are you at the right place? (There isn't much signage, especially near the entrance) Where do you go once there? (There are several buildings) Who are you looking for? After parking, all we had to do was ask for Shannon and one of her staff politely told us where we could go/wait while she went to get Shannon. (For those wondering, there is a small "office" type room in the barn (with helmets & gear) that we now go to upon arrival.) Overall, the kids adore Downtown Equestrian Center and like having "Miss Shannon" as their instructor (as well as her staff). They are very comfortable there and have greatly enjoyed their experiences beyond words. I have appreciated Shannon's communication, style of interaction & instruction w the kids (she differentiates well for the youngest to oldest), flexibility, and interaction w the adults present. Moreover, I think there is something to be said about the way an instructor treats/interacts with the student relating to how they treat/interact with the horses. Our experience has been very positive; this leads me to believe she is kind and thoughtful when it comes to caring for her horses. I know that more regularly scheduled lessons on our part will allow Shannon to create lessons that further build upon each other. We are looking forward to all that will be learned in future lessons with Shannon, her staff, and horses.

They know how to treat the horses and know how to treat their customers. They genuinely care for both. They normally have a pretty wide variety of horses for sale and have a great eye when it comes to matching horse and rider. Not interested in buying? They will match you up with one of many lesson horses. While primarily a western barn they do have instructors who are more than competent teaching English techniques. There is also a saddle shop on the property that has tack and supplies for your horse along with an ample supply of hats, boots and clothing for riding or casual wear. Stop by and check out the place. You won't be sorry that you did. You can even speak with the founder of the place who still lives on the property. A+ people and an A+ business.

Why is LK Tack Shop simply Western heaven?!? And why did it take me so long to find?!? Yah, yah…read morethey have English stuff too, but they're Western selection is unrivaled by any tack store, equestrian store, farm and feed store, sports store, or flat out use-what-they-got-and-make-it-work store (aka Walmart) in a 30 mile radius. LK isn't tiny, but it's jam packed with clothes, boots, helmets (they also carry Troxels designed by Fallon Taylor if you want something more fun), bits, bridles, blankets, halters, leads, treats, supplements, sprays, brushes, and a million other things I'm forgetting. Their boot selection alone is a reason to head here because I've found everything from a simple design to an American flag and everything in between. The helmet selection makes me want to buy extra helmets just because they have more than just your typical black helmet. But it's the jeans that actually led me here. For one they have true riding jeans, flare legged, boot cut... sized correctly... none of this "size 1,3,5,7,9,11..." baloney that you'll find in stores when looking for flared or boot cut jeans these days. At LK you can find the proper length, the right fit, and great quality. The prices are a little high if you're comparing them to what you'd find in Walmart, but the quality and fit are so much better at LK and it seems like every so often they have some kind of sale going on so keep an eye out for those days. The staff are all great. There when you need them, gone when you don't. And they can make great recommendations on anything in store (they don't jump to the highest price). LK is a gem. If you're looking for anything Western make this your first stop (and English as well). They have a long time customer in me.
