Really casual and yummy. I had the turkey on a ciabatta and asked to have the cilantro aioli sauce substituted with the chiplote bbq sauce instead. Not a problem-- as I am one of those people who can't stand cilantro. The side if the day was fresh deviled eggs--amazing. Stop in and try out this restaurant in downtown Leonardtown. I had a very nice burger (the Rex) with a lot of flavor in the beef and in the sauce. My wife had a special - Cuban tacos (pork with an EXCELLENT flavor profile). She loved them (she's sometimes hard to impress). There was a well stocked bar, a dozen draft beers on tap and some outside seating with small tables. Waite staff was prompt and food prep time was fine. Reasonable prices. We'll go back! read more

I love this place! I've yet to have a bad experience here. The food is always delicious and the menu changes every quarter. I've been there for dinner and lunch and every time it's been great. Drink sizes used to be generous, but the last time I was there, the glass size shrunk. Last time we were there we also shared their theme dessert and it was amazing. Portion sizes are what they're supposed to be. If you're expecting the American-oversize portion, this isn't a place for you. If you like SOMD standards, this isn't the place for you. My wife and I have gone to Rex's several times and have been very satisfied; but the last time I was very disappointed. I don't want to go to a bar and order a burger and then not be able to get fries or onion rings. What's really weird is that not to long ago you could get just that. Who keeps the burger on the menu and takes the fries and onion rings off...whose command decision was that? This is Leonardtown, most folks are not looking for a four course salad with their ¾ burger and beer! Just saying! read more

The worst restaurant I have ever walked into. The stench was my first clue, and the long wait for a waitress confirmed my fear. After a long wait, we ordered the tacos, salad, and a pizza. I was very specific that I wanted light cheese, yet when the pizza arrived after about 25 minutes, it was oozing cheese. The response from the brain dead waitress was, " hey, I don't know what happened." I asked if she could reorder the pizza, and in a huff she walked off. 26 minutes later, we still had no pizza, our drinks were never refreshed, and I just asked for the check. Bottom line, terrible atmosphere, terrible service, terrible food. We will never go there again, and we live right around the corner. read more

We are local southern maryland residents and always happy to support local businesses. First time here was a disappointment. Husband ordered the Rex burger. Tiny burger on a huge pretzel roll bun that came out lukewarm. The homemade potato chips were so overdone they were like brown pita chips. He actually left hungry. For $14 we were not happy. My Cobb salad was good but was let down by the choice of some new wines on the menu not being in stock. Hint to owner- if you don't have it , don't advertise it! Our server/bartender was as good as she could be with what she had . However the real kicker was when she served a sandwich to her table and another server came out and yelled "hey you took my something-something sandwich!" So this server went to the table and took it away!!!! I was expecting Jon Taffer from Bar Rescue to walk thought the door at any moment. The Rex is a wonderful place to eat. The food is the best, with a regularly rotating menu of delicious foods, as well as some standard favorites like the Rex burger. The atmosphere is like that of a cosmopolitan bar, with the intimacy and roominess of a small-town bar. Local and national draft beers as well as cocktails make it a draw for anyone. The wait staff are all very friendly, and the owner is regularly seen greeting guests and making sure they're happy. Definitely a wonderful place to eat. read more

We went to the Rex on a thursday night about 6. The noise was deafening, the place was very dark, and the bartender keep playing cornhole by throwing beer bottles across the bar and them clanking and crashing very loudly every 2 minutes. So the general atmosphere was chaos , loud and dark. we ordered some cokes and what was supposed to be beer battered french fries " seasoned to perfection". we got regular fries with no sign of any special coating and old bay. OLD BAY?? some one needs to fix the menu to say that the fries are seasoned with OLD BAY! YUCK. Old bay is not some king of perfect seasoning unless you are eating crabs!! my wife ordered shrimp tacos and I got a pizza. the Tacos were COLD and the shrimp was probably canned. YUCK. Waitress told us the tacos were not heated. the waitress did take the tacos off the bill. it still came to 29 bucks for fries, a pizza and 2 cokes. The pizza was pretty good. 29 bucks?? should have went to popeyes.. the food, hit or miss, the restaurant.. not so much. read more

This is a great place to have lunch, a snack, dinner, or to just unwind. The food is delicious and they make the best pizzas in Southern Maryland! The servers and bartenders are usually very nice and accommodating. They have an amazing sandwich called the Fenwick, it is basically a Ruben and they make the 1000 island sauce in house with sriracha sauce, it is so delicious. They also offer the best chicken wings that I have ever had the pleasure of eating. The Rex offers outdoor seating when the weather allows but you can still have a lovely time dining inside. read more

We were visiting from out of town for a friend's wedding. To be fair, I will say that we are from a well populated metro area so Leonardtown is very small town living to us. There aren't many other options in the area so you just gotta take what you can get, right? Anyway, the first night we went we were already a little tipsy but decided we wanted to take some shots (which we couldn't really make in the hotel room). Our bartender was as cute as ever but could not make drinks to save her life. Her personality saved it for her but the drinks were awful. I can't remember her name but I would suggest sticking to things like beer or whiskey and coke to save yourself from vomiting in the bathroom after taking one of her shots, like our friend did. LOL! Bless that poor girl's heart. She did say she was new and in training though so more power to her. The next night we went up there we weren't really looking to drink heavily, we just wanted to grab some food and a couple of beers before bed. Well....even though there are pictures of food on this yelp page there is NO food :-( I asked the bartender if they were still serving and she just said "Nope, no food" and walked away (different bartender on this night)....a little rude so we didn't even stick around for beer. I would say if you're just looking for somewhere to hang out and grab a few drinks then The Rex is the place for you. I, personally, actually preferred the pub a few buildings up the street (PS that place actually has food and it's pretty good). read more

I had previously posted a review and deleted it but after so many visits to The Rex with mediocre at best service I thought I would update my review. The food is great and the potential is there. But the service is always lacking. Tonight our server brought drinks and left the menus. She came back 15 minutes later. Apologizing for being busy. Friends joined us and it took 15 minutes (at least) for the server to notice. Another friend joined a half hour later, waited about 15 minutes and finally bought her own drink at the bar. After a while we all needed refills. I looked around for the server, she was sitting in a booth with some guests - where she apparently had been all night! We went and asked her to wait on us. This is just not acceptable. This has happened to me before at the bar at the Rex, too. The servers are always involved in personal conversations, meals and not acting attentive to the customers. . I have been a server. You only sit in your own break area. Don't eat it in the dining area and don't sit with customers!! The servers all need serious training. And need to pay attention to the customers more attentively. I like the food but am going to think twice about going back. read more

If I can give 0 stars, I would. My husband and I stumbled into this place because Salsa's was close after the blizzard from yesterday. We walked in, and the woman said we can sit anywhere so we did. Our server came and no pleasantries were exchange. She took our drinks and came back and didn't offer us menu. I had to call someone else's attention to grab us menus in which she never did. Needless to say, we stood up and left. The servers lack etiquette. They were only focus on the people sitting in the bar. Perhaps they were regulars. Nevertheless, this place has horrible customer service. We wont be coming back! read more

Majority of menu items are sandwiches and I'm repeatedly surprised at how SLOW service is. Mgt is usually seated/congregated at the bar, not helping rectify situation. read more

Walking in to this open street front restaurant you are transported to the 1950s. The Bloody Mary's were tops with Old Bay seasoning and large olives. Our brunch of Creamed Chip Beef and eggs was good and filling. Staff was friendly and accommodating. We will be back. read more

This is my favorite place to eat in Leonardtown. The daily specials are always amazing! I love when they have crab or lamb on the menu.

Both times we went here, once for lunch, once for dinner, the food was sent back as not cooked to order or just plain wrong order altogether. Both times one person in our party sat while we ate and their food was late. Unless you like loud places to eat, do not go here for dinner. Staff is pleasant. I get the old theater vibe and liked seeing the old movies on tv. They show sports later in the day. read more

Decent place. The food was mediocre, the beer selection was ok, but the real issue was the subpar service. We went on a Friday evening before the nightlife crowd so there wasn't anything too pressing to warrant the service received. The overall atmosphere is nice, the remodeling from when it was a movie theatre was done right. We will go back at some point in the future, so our first experience wasn't a deal breaker. read more

We went there, had made reservations for February 14th. Arrived to find that almost all the tables are pub tables. Said if we waited a bit they would move us to a regular table. They were only serving a limited four course dinner menu. Nothing was mentioned about this on their website or when we made the reservations. The choices were terrible. We left. It really is just a bar. There are much better choices if you want dinner, even the chain restaurants would be a better choice. read more
