Tired of the chain hotels so we found this place driving thru Cortez CO and needing to sleep. Love the retro vibe, slept in the Elivs room 1956 and it was so clean and warm. Warm greetings at front desk. Looking around in the daytime you won't find a more family friendly place. Game room, breakfast, outside grass area, laundry room. Only one slightly neg. was the shower drain did not drain. But I've had that happen in high end hotels too and this being older built not surprising. A must stay and will come back. read more

My husband and I have different priorities when it comes to hotels. My priority is cleanliness while for him (for any human who deals with finances) will always see the cost of the place first. We all know usually but not always, the higher the cost, the newer and nicer the place may be. So why it's still a 4-star? Well, it really depends on the eye of the beholder. To be honest, i actually want to give it a 3-star due to everything being old and beyond refurbished but what saved them was it is called retro for a reason. The furnitures, especially table and chairs could be newer and cleaner but it's not and because well....its retro. The table is the main complaint really. As it was very old to the point, the paint is run-down sticky-ness. Old table stickiness if that makes sense. Like a kitchen air vent covered in oil and not washed in months. In addition, those carpets all got to go. They are beyond old and icky. Aside from that, what matters the most to me and most importantly is the bed. The bed was to my surprise very clean and comfortable and a good night sleep is all I needed which made up for it. So for the clean comfy bed, clean bathroom and sink, i can forgo the rest with their excuse of creative retro idea. Breakfast was an interesting one but descent to get on our day. They have quite a few varieties also do note, most were straight from the pkg. Which was fine with us. They got breakfast burritos or sausage on a cornbread stick or what we used to call it "pigs in a blanket" both in a pkg and to warm up yourself. Boiled eggs that is pre-cracked and individually saran wrapped. They also have yogurts, cereals coffee, tea and hot chocolate. read more

Loved this place. Loved the vibe. Very kitschy. If you're looking for a clean and comfortable hotel room and are sick of putting money into the pockets of the large corporate hotel chains, I think you will like this. And we could not beat the price. As a side note, I really like that we could park right in front of our room - old style. We were ending a skiing vacation with a lot of stuff to take in/out of the car and the convenience was perfect. On a funny note, the "Vacancy" sign on the main sign post was flickering. Idk if that was intentional or not, but I thought it was a great touch. read more

Extremely unnecessarily curt woman at check in on the night of August the 28th. Made me wish I hadn't booked and paid online before I got there. Not every room is going to be really cute. But they are clean and you can tell there is a lot of personal touches and thoughtfulness put into the place. I'm always a fan of owners who keep the old Americana hotels alive. But if you're into being treated like complete crap for simply existing by a young woman this is the place for you. I checked in pretty late so you should be able to catch her then. read more

Why 5 stars when the place is not a 5 star hotel? It's classic 1950-65 and clean, updated and more. A rare find! Bed was very comfortable!!! The room walls were thick. Could not hear anyone in the adjoining rooms unlike most hotels! House cleaning top tier. Normally, I would stay at a Hampton (one right across the street), but this place is better!! Quieter. Prettier. Has a small dog park. Chairs and tables outside your door to enjoy the beautiful night sky. read more

Very affordable and in a great location for visiting the Four Corners region. They still use physical keys, and it is a one-story motel so you can park directly in front of your room. It is within walking distance of a Walmart in case you need any last-minute essentials. There is a front porch with two seats and a small table in between, which adds a nice touch. The rooms are a bit old but clean and nicely maintained. They advertise a continental breakfast, but it's actually more abundant than a lot of hot breakfasts. They have microwavable breakfast burritos and tamales, which is a genius idea: cheap and convenient for them to provide, but very satisfying for the guest. read more

We stayed at The Retro Inn when we came to visit the Four Corners, Mesa Verde, Durango, Silverton, Ouray, & Telluride. It was a great central location for our week of adventure. The room was very comfortable and the retro furnishings were fun. The grounds offered nice grassy areas with outdoor seating, a grill, and safe places for us to spend time with our leashed dogs. The entire staff was incredibly helpful and seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs there. We met some wonderful travelers from other parts of the country as well as many different European countries. Overall a friendly and safe place. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to the area. read more

Clean, fun motel... The rooms were spacious, set up in yeats... we had 1964, which was when the Beatles were popular, so it was decorated as such. They have a game room with a pool table, foosball & big screen TV for watching sports. They also have ping-pong outside, life size chese... its just a good place to stop, explore Cortez, Colorado. I was really looking forward to this place, based on the reviews, but found some things disappointing. First the good: The people at check-in, breakfast and check-out were all very friendly and fun. And the breakfast had lots of great food and options, including a pancake battered sausage on a stick (yes, please!). Unfortunately, our room (1984--lot's of Miami Vice pics on the wall; still not sure how I feel about guys with Uzi's as decor) had a window near the door which had no curtain, allowing people in the parking lot to see right in. And the carpet seemed either overwashed or underwashed, not sure which, but a bit crusty underfoot. read more

a true MOTEL. It was very clean, that is the only reason we didn't leave. our room had cold tile floors with one small rug that slid when you stepped on it. The bathroom had just the one sink sticking out of the wall. The room was also very dark. We stayed in room 1955. I get that in 1955 this is how things were, so just be prepared if you stay in one of the earlier dates. read more

A Blast From The Past! This was a great throwback motel. Check-in was fun and we got to pick the year of our room. 1955, James Dean! The old school Do Not Disturb or Maid Service knob on the door was cool. The phone booth actually had a dial tone and rang the front desk. It was very clean both in the room and around the property. Outdoor seating areas, yard chess game, sit with Elvis, the retro camper is so cool. We went to explore Mesa Verde, and the Retro Inn was a great base camp. Chose this motel on a drive by because it looked inviting & people were sitting around outside in lawn chairs. Staff was great! Rooms are numbered by years, I got 1979. Decorated according to year but not overdone. My experience was as good as it gets. Very clean, comfortable bedding and good towels. There was a small fridge in the room & everything worked. The big + was the fenced dog area. No breakfast due to Covid, but there was coffee machine in the room. I love the old style motel were you just pull up to your room and no upstairs. I just stayed 1 night. Had a quiet and peaceful sleep. Beautiful place to wake up. read more

My 18 year old and I absolutely loved it. Stopped in town after the Grand Canyon and 4 Corners, planning on staying the night to see Mesa Verde Nat'l Park in the morning. The sign outside caught my eye and once we stopped in the lobby, we knew we made the right decision. Young man with a leather hat on checked us in and he was awesome. He suggested a dinner spot right across the road, and helped make sure we knew all about the motel for the night. Gave us the Barbie Room, and it was super cute! Linens are all white, super clean and fresh. Mattress and box springs are encased in covers too. Bathroom and all the kitchenette area items were spotless. The outside areas are adorable and well maintained. Breakfast the next morning I was good with multiple selections to choose from. Would totally recommend this place to anyone needing a place to stay for a night or a week. read more

During our 8 day traveling adventure, we stayed at a total of 5 different hotels. This absolute gem was the best of them all by far! It's everything I expected it to be and more. The front office staff could not have been nicer and more accommodating. At check-in, we were warmly welcomed and felt cared for. Each unit is numbered by a year, at least the ones on the outer perimeter. We were lucky enough to stay in room 1950. I will likely judge future motel room against this one. I can't speak to the size of other guest rooms but this was one spacious room! The 1950s theme was charming without being over-the-top. The "living room" had a dining area and a very comfy couch. There was a kitchen area that offered everything except an oven. The large TV swiveled so that it could be viewed from the living room or bedroom. Before I proceed, I have to mention the bed. It was so comfy! Not too hard, not too soft. Slept like a baby (hooray!). The bathroom had all that we needed plus a rainfall showerhead. Lovely!! Before we checked out, we took a look at the rest of the property. There was an amazing guest clubhouse that offered a pool table, video games, ice, laundry, and an overall cool area to relax in. It's impressive, to say the least. Out back there is a grassy area, patio and swings set up around a TV set large enough so everyone in your party could watch a movie. The whole concept of this beauty is brilliant. We can't wait to return. read more

We have been on a road trip for the last 10 days so when I saw this place online I figured it would be great to try it based upon the reviews. Plus I was tired of the typical hotels. From the minute we arrived until we left it was perfect. Super NICE and welcoming staff. The room was great clean and comfy great night sleep. I liked parking in front of the room I loved sitting right out front of my room in a very comfy chair, played foosball walked around the property, checked out the retro trailer. They have a giant chess set too. Lots of places to sit and they have definitely thought about the enjoyment of their guests. Breakfast was good lots to choose from. The pictures looked amazing and I was excited to stay at this themed property. I was very disappointed. There was nothing retro about my room except a picture on the wall of kids playing a computer in the 80s. The toilet clogged easy. The fitted sheets were too small for the bed and kept slipping off during the night. The beds were tipped so that your feet were above your head and it felt like you were going to roll off the side. There was one working plug, which I was using to work on my laptop for most of the night so we couldn't charge our phones. The internet was slow, and l was taking a test and it lost connection. I about had a heart attack. The tests are worth a lot of points on my grade. The breakfast was pathetic. Frozen waffles, muffins, and oatmeal packets. Pathetic. The tables at the breakfast area were dirty. We didn't stay. Because it was a Sunday, there were only two places in town to go eat and they were so busy that it took us an extra 2 hours to get out of town. Lipstick on a pig! Hey no complaints here! Clean, comfortable, and great show spans bed. The perfect little crash pad. Grill and seating in the well appointed court yard. Definitely stay again. One downside is that Cortez is full of loud vehicles (hot rods). Road noise can be an issue if you sleep light. Walkable to all restaurants if going downtown I would recommend walking the neighborhoods only a block behind the hotel and a very pretty walk in old town USA! read more

This place is a gem!!! Comfortable rooms...numbered a retro year, painted cheerfully. Breakfast is subjective...I loved it. There were green Chile tamales, in the refrigerator and the lovely woman at the front desk knows how long to heat it! There are breakfast burritos, muffins, danishes, granola bars, bagels, cream cheese, milk, juice, coffee, tea, and, my favorite cold weather beverage...hot cocoa. I booked on a site that says 24 hour front desk...not true. We're thankful that a nice lady called us at about ten and provided after hours check in instructions. Really, the customer service was fabulous. The price is super reasonable. The breakfast seating are colorful and clean. I noticed they have outdoor games for when weather is better.
