I'll tell you what, I read a lot of reviews before booking my stay at this hotel, and I was a bit apprehensive. To my surprise, I was extremely pleased with my experience here. First I'll mention my only two complaints: 1) the shower didn't have any shelves to set my stuff on, and 2) the kitchenette didn't have any dishes, pots, pans, or utensils. Luckily I didn't need to use the kitchenette, but it would have been nice to know I needed to bring my own kitchenware ahead of time. Now for the positives: the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the breakfast was delicious, and the shower was hot. I read some reviews about the shower not being hot, and I actually had some friends staying in a different room, and they said their shower wasn't hot. My shower actually started off lukewarm, but after a few minutes it was hot, so all good there! I had a fridge, a microwave, the A/C worked great, the TV was good, and there was a coffee maker too! Next, I have to say that the breakfast was fantastic! It is very difficult to know what the breakfast will be like before you're actually there. I had scrambled eggs, sausage patties, potatoes with bell peppers, toast with butter and jelly, coffee, and orange drink. The staff was friendly but not intrusive, there was a cat who belonged to a staff and roamed the parking lot and which added a delightful flair. Check in was easy, the room was clean. The shower had great pressure and drained well which is unfortunately rare for a motel, but a wonderful treat after days of camping and adventure. Safe and convenient spot as well. Edit to add: such a comfy bed and the softest sheets. I slept so deeply and struggled to get up in the morning. Top notch. read more

The night clerk deserves any stars this place gets. I stayed in a different hotel every night for 10 nights. None can touch how bad this one was. The clerk brought us extra towels and wash cloths. We picked the ones that weren't stained and wore flip flops in the shower as it was molded. We would have left, but it was late and had already unloaded the car carrier. I gave this 3 stars because the desk clerk was very friendly and told us where we could park the enclosed trailer we were pulling. I did notice his hands were really dirty. Not cool! He did mention he needed to mow the grass & I agree the outside of the place was pretty unkempt too. The rooms are big and there is no carpet and I think that's a great update! The bathroom needed to be updated and a little more carefully cleaned. I'm not really that picky but the stuff in the corners needs to be cleaned up! We stayed for two nights & the location is really good for visiting Cortez. We were a bit surprised they didn't freshen our room. There were a couple of things that the hotel can't really help like people leaving their barking dogs in the room alone or the loud fighting people hat stayed next to us. I should have Yelped it first b/c on Trivago & ChoiceHotels sites, this place got 7.6 & 8.0+ scores. Seriously?! Dirtiest carpet I've ever seen or smelled in a hotel room. Absolutely disgusting. I had to spread out the bed coverlet on one side of the room to try to minimize exposure to mold & mildew & smoke residue... and I booked a non-smoking room! The pool wasn't even open, un-noted on the site reservation. My cat sat on the window sill & on the bed most of the time, avoiding carpet contact. For an econo lodge, it was clean, quiet and a good rest. It appears that they are updating rooms and the owner was very kind and polite!

When we checked in we found fresh, new stains on the sheets. It looked to most likely be lipstick, but we couldn't know for sure. We asked for another room and the new room reeked of smoke, even though it was a non-smoking room. The third room appeared to be neat, tidy and clean. We checked in and went about our evening. We returned and when we were preparing to go to sleep, we realized there was no way to deadbolt the door. The lock assembly on the door and the lock assembly on the door jamb did not match - it was impossible to set the deadbolt. Whoever installed the door or the lock had to have realized this, and chose to leave it like that. We asked for another room and the fourth room had dirty pillow cases and hair on the pillow case. The manager was extremely rude and not accommodating. We requested a full refund in addition to a clean room and he refused. He offered a 50% discount, and failing that, he told us we could stay or go. He told us we could post a negative review if we wanted, but he would not budge. I highly recommend skipping this place altogether. Very very poor. I recommend spending a few more bucks and staying someplace else, save yourself the headache. This was ridiculous. read more

When we checked in, we were told that we had booked an upstairs room. My response was that I didn't know that we had the option of choosing upstairs or downstairs at time of booking, and asked if we could we have a downstairs room. That is when the clerk informed me that a downstairs room would be an additional $60 dollars, but that they were also very full and it would be hard to make that change. He lied...one whole half of the hotel was completely empty. And there were only about 12 cars on the other side at 11 pm when we got back to our room. He also told us that the prices were going up the next day to $95 per night. Because of Covid-19 they were not offering the continental breakfast and the pool was closed. Not sure why they don't disclose that kind of information when making the reservation. This hotel is dirty and dated. The toilet is about 12 inches high and the vanity is just barely above your knees. Our bedding was dirty and the shower was so dirty, we did not shower during our stay (2 nights). They did not come to clean or make the beds. Since we did not shower, luckily, we did not need towel replacement. There is a safe, but there was so much dirt on top of the safe, there is no way I would use it. When we were leaving, we went to the ice machine to get ice, it wasn't working. Now, for the good. There is a microwave, coffee maker and fridge in the room. Denny's is right across the street, and Walmart is also within walking distance. Next time I am in Cortez, this place would only be an option if there wasn't anything else available. read more

Don't stop here. The first room we were given smelled like an ashtray because someone had been in there chain smoking. The carpet had black stains all around the room that looked like someone had tracked in tar from asphalt on a hot day. We asked for another room. The new room didn't smell like smoke, but also had the odd black stains all over the carpet. There was also urine splattered on the toilet seat from the previous visitor, so apparently they do not clean the toilet between customers. The ceiling was pockmarked in brownish dots - I was told this is dried blood from IV drug users who suck some of their blood into the needle then shoot it back up at the ceiling... Truly a disgusting place! The manager is rude and refused to give us a refund. read more

Easy to find location. Helpful staff. For the price it was a good value. Could use a little love and upkeep money spent on property. Room was quite and larger than most properties. I wouldn't pay more than $50 for this place. The walls are paper thin ... you can hear every door, car door, car on the road, and every conversation & television from your neighbors. The breakfast area is dirty and there are only like 3 options (cereal, oatmeal, waffles). The water is hot, but it randomly spews out excessively hot or cold water. That's super fun when you're just trying to enjoy a shower. The towels are all stained up - use some bleach Econo Lodge! Bring your own pillow because while there are 3 on the bed, they're tiny square pillows. They can't even afford normal standard sized pillows? Oh, and the floors inside are absolutely disgusting. read more

Bed bugs in room 115! They told us they had them in that room before. We waited in the morning to see how they responded to it. We watched the maid remove the sheets from only the bed that had the bedbugs leaving the blanket on the bed. They never brought out the sheets for the other bed in the same room that had bed bugs in the room. None of the cleaning staff were wearing masks while cleaning the rooms. We watched the manager make the beds in the room next to ours where the guests had already checked our and driven off and he never put clean sheets on the beds. They are not washing sheets between guests!!! read more

I can't say enough good things about this hotel. We were passing through town during an out of state move and we stayed the night here. They accommodated us and our dog, and were really nice. Much bigger room than I expected, very clean and tidy. Floor was not carpeted, had nice wood laminate; so no issues as noted by previous reviewer. We had a great stay! We were leary due to some bad reviews and our previous night in Albuquerque which resulted in us leaving our hotel in the middle of the night due to bugs. But there were no issues with our stay at all! Listen, this is budget. Maybe in peak season you are paying a premium for the time of year, but be realistic that this is a cheap hotel in a small town. The location is perfect if you are planning to do Mesa Verde or Monument Valley (which we were) and there aren't many other options. Not only was everything easy, comfortable and clean but the front desk staff even helped me recover my jacket that I left at a nearby restaurant the night before. And at 8am no less! They saved the rest of my roadtrip by making a few phone calls on my behalf. I would totally recommend the Econo Lodge in Cortez! read more

Short version: you get what you pay for, especially in an area with limited hotel options. As a light sleeper, the paper thin walls made it hard to sleep with all the road noise and tap dancing elephants that were apparently in the unit above me. If you must stay here, make sure you get a top floor unit. My unit had a very stuffy, unpleasant smell that didn't fully clear despite me leaving the window open most of the day. This hotel is cheaper than a lot of the alternatives in the area, but they are all overpriced for what you get. I want to give more stars for the employees being nice but just can't considering the condition of our room. Where to start? Let's start with the disgusting stench of cigarette smoke. Gag. Next the cobwebs in nearly every corner of our room. My fiancé killed 1 mosquito, 2 spiders, 1 moth, and about 10 ants. The room was not clean AT ALL. They wouldn't move us rooms because they were completely booked. After fees and taxes this hotel costed us around $180. This place is disgusting. The photos online are very deceiving. We would have honestly rather stayed in our vehicle. They also wouldn't accommodate us besides cancelling our room, refunding and have us stay somewhere else. Someone highly dishonest is working at this location and the general manager is no help. I left a few items at the hotel. They were helpful in getting some of them back to me with the exception of a nice necklace that was given to me as a parting gift. I was told it had been found but somehow it managed to disappear before it was returned to me. The general manager didn't want to hear that someone more than likely took it and didn't even offer compensation for his establisment's lack of honesty. If you ever stay here, don't leave your things. Chances are they won't get back to you. Also we had to kill 2 spiders in our room, the pillows were covered in someone else's hair, and the comforters, sheets and towels were covered in stains. read more

It was clean, everything worked, and there was even a plastic mat for the dog bowls :) Can't comment on the breakfast because we left early, but definitely will stay here again. I won't stay here again. Smelled bad, pain coming off the walls, they told me breakfast was until 10, and it wasn't. When I asked them to refill breakfast items at 9:10 (Inside their window for breakfast), they acted annoyed. The guy at the desk was on the phone and wouldn't acknowledge me (I could wait, but to be professional, he should have made eye contact, and asked me to wait. He avoided eye contact). I made a reservation and had to cancel less than an hour later. The man I talked to at the hotel assured me that I would be refunded immediately. Worse stay EVER!! Weekly people up stairs are so loud and stomping around starting at 3am, then NO HOT WATER for showers! Mother in law got this place for 3 nights, and it's the worse 3 nights in all our stays!! Wouldn't recommend this place for a dog!! They shouldn't put weekly stay people on the top floor, especially when they know they are up at 3am and have been told about the noise already!! Worst stay ever!! Looking for a nice middle of the road hotel, to sleep at, I chose this one, it looked clean etc. Paid for the room and all, I asked if they had wireless internet available as advertised and they said yes it was very easy to connect to, also there was an ethernet cord in the room from the wall for direct connection. Anyway could not get on the internet wired or wireless, was woke up at 530 in the morning by the fire alarms going off for almost 45 minutes, they said it was a malfunction they had been trying to repair. There was no face/body lotion, the soap was about the size of a saltine cracker and it just was not a pleasant stay at all, I would never recommend anyone there or stay again at any Sleep Inn ever!!!!! It was sad, and too boot they offered no apology about the alarm going off. Out right sucked!! read more

After a long drive we checked in around 5pm. We got to our room and the door was propped open. Housekeeping came a few minutes later and was surprised they put someone in the room. She gave us towels and mentioned that they just replaced the AC unit. We showered and left to Denver for dinner and exploring the city. We came back around 11pm to get some sleep before our flight home the next day. The AC was on high the entire time we were gone but it was still extremely hot in the room. The daytime temps were in the 90's and we were on the 4th floor. The front desk sent a maintenance guy up at 12:30am and he determined the AC unit was bad. They said they couldn't move us to another room and there were no other hotels available in the area. The manager came up around 1am and and agreed it was hot in the room and he said he was sweating after 3 minutes being there. He went to the store to purchase two fans to try to make it more comfortable. He agreed to call Expedia the following day to get us a refund. I waited a few days and finally called Expedia to make sure it was taken care of. Expedia support called him and he denied ever saying this. He told Expedia since we stayed there they had to charge us the full amount. We had a terrible stay there and the management was unwilling to do the right thing and refund our money. If he couldn't do it he shouldn't have told us he would. read more

This hotel was very easy to find, and was within walking distance of some staples (e.g. Denny's, Walgreens, Walmart, a gas station etc.) It was dog friendly, and had a couple of nice grassy areas out front for our pup to do his "business". We opted to stay on a main-level room due to convenience of taking our pup out, and did experience some noise from upstairs neighbors. This was very limited, though, and seemed to be just due to folks checking in/out. We did not experience any noise issues during the night from upstairs or next-door neighbors. The breakfast was pretty basic but tasted good (it included waffles, oatmeal, some fruit, coffee, etc.) We ended up leaving early, as Mesa Verde National Park does not allow pets within the park this time of year (the one trail that is dog-friendly only opens up in May), and the front desk employee was very kind and accommodating. All in all, you get what you pay for. If you want to spend an extra $50-$60 a night, you can stay at a place with better views/amenities I'm sure; however, if you are on a budget or not planning to stay in your room very much, it totally does the trick! read more

A friend and I checked in at Econo Lodge in Cortez early May 2019 for one night before heading to nearby Mesa Verde National Park. I liked this motel. Room was quiet, clean, and a good size. People at the front desk were friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. There is a breakfast room located just past the front desk where you can have waffles, cereal, fruit, coffee, etc. Very nice. I pretty much agree with Joshua... not the worst, nor can I say I wouldn't recommend not staying at any Sleep Inn as some are probably managed better than this one. I usually stay at Motel 6's and some are better than other's. This is closer to the lesser one's. I'm not going to write a book.... I'll just say our room wasn't all that clean and I made one obvious simple repair myself, the toilet seat was loose, the housekeeper didn't notice this? The whole place shows lack of maintenance/care including the landscaping. I'll stick with my Motel 6's...... for the money. I did like the showerhead better. read more

Stayed two nights while we explored Durango and Mesa Verde. The hotel was well worth the price and clean. Breakfast was okay with cold cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, and pastries. The staff was very friendly and provided information about the area. There is a Walmart across the street and a very good Mexican restaurant a block away. Some highway noise when a loud vehicle or motorcycle speeds by, but for the most part, we had a peaceful two nights. Would stay again. read more
