I got the Black Sesame flavor and the smoky, hearty flavor could definitely be detected through the crumb coating. My friend indulged in one of their hot chocolates, which came with a lot of whipped cream and a chocolate bear itself. I decided within a few hours to go to London with no particular plans in mind for my first time in the city, lucked out with a last minute reservation at this very popular cafe for an impromptu birthday afternoon tea. Unexpectedly stayed till close after an amazing time with the nicest waitress who moved me to their best table at start, helped clean off sweater lint off the only nice clothes I scrappily packed for the short notice trip, patiently took so many pics of me all around the cafe's most aesthetic corners fully indulging my basic, and taught me how to properly eat a scone instead of my original brutish ways. When the waitress came to take my card near end of service, I quietly showed her a note I'd written her on my phone (tldr expressed gratitude for her kindness and for making my birthday joyful amidst a gloomy holiday season, offered to do a few things and asked which would serve her the most meaning). After reading the note, the waitress gave me a big hug which I happily accepted, then surprised me with tears streaming down her face as she told me she was actually having a really rough day till this. After she collected herself a bit and closed out the remaining customers, we chatted more in a private section and resonated on our philosophies around how we treat people. Before parting, I encouraged the young waitress (Akanksha) to please retain her precious human qualities that the world always needs more of (indirectly reminding myself the same). You never know when somebody is going through a rough time. For two strangers at Peggy Porschen on this particular day, a scrappy patron and a waitress serendipitously made each other's day a little brighter and heart feel a lot warmer. I was absolutely in awe of the interior of Megan's and how cosy this restaurant is, it looks like a fairytale at night with all those lights. Upon being seated, I ordered my starter, I chose the Gambas Pil Pil, served with Sourdough bread, garlic and chilli. The Gambas Pil Pil arrived piping hot and I had to wait for a little, for the Gambas to settle down. The prawns are fresh, full of flavour and are paired well with the sourdough bread. Tip: I let the sourdough bread sit in the Gambas sauce, before eating, which tastes so good! For my main, I chose the 35 days dry aged rib eye steak (300g), you can choose a variety of sauces to go with your steak and I chose the peppercorn sauce. The steak was cooked medium-rare, so the steak melted into my mouth and was dewy, the peppercorn aided in adding flavour and gave a hint of spice to the steak. When receiving my steak, it was around 7 pm and I noticed that Megan's really started to pick up and get busy. speaking to my waiter he advised coming to Megan's around 7 pm or on a Saturday as these are the best time periods when Megan's gets buzzing. Paired perfectly with my steak was a glass of wine white. La Cote Flamac- Picpoul. I know that red meat is best served with red wine, however, I prefer white and this wine is sweet with a crisp aftertaste, but you are warned as this wine is quite strong and I felt a bit merry just after one glass! For dessert, there was so much choice as Megan's serves as a café during the day, selling beautifully decorated cakes and treats. I finally chose to have the warmed chocolate brownie, which is gluten-free, served with salted caramel ice cream. I did not eat the ice cream due to my intolerance, however, the brownie was decorated with berry fruits, which I ate alongside the brownie. This is a real treat, rich in flavour and taste; it was a perfect way to end my meal and is a definite must from the menu! I accompanied my brownie with a smoothie, I wanted to try out Megan's smoothies, as I heard how amazing they are. I went for the passion fruit smoothie, which is a dairy-free, freshly squeezed and blended on site. The passion fruit smoothie is made with mango, passion fruit, banana and orange juice. The smoothie was so fresh and tangy with the passion fruit but the taste of the banana could be found seeping through. Overall, I loved dining at Megan's, it has a generally nice vibe, where in the morning you can get your breakfast, smoothie and bakery goods and in the evening you can get your dinner and catch up with friends or a loved one. I decided upon an espresso and almond croissant. They even heated it up for me. Within a few short tasty bites it was gone. Perfectly flaky with slight almond flavor.
