They are back. We went a weekend before they were officially opened. But we had fun. So many reptiles. Feeding tortoise! Guinea pigs! They have otter experience where you can buy fish, feed them, cuddle them etc for 1 hour. It's $65 per person and booked out till July. The reptiles - snake room was the creepiest. So loud! Because the rattlers were rattling. Crazy loud. Once you walk out, dead silent. They have snapping turtle- massive one! And several crocodiles too. Massive Nile crocodiles. Overall, it's fun. Creepy and all at once. A must visit for once or thrice. Feeding the animals was the best part. read more

Man... I am sad this place is closing down in February but I am so glad we got to see it before closing. Its advertisement on Google says that it's a roadside attraction but it was much better than that. Although it's just two rooms, we spent more than an hour here looking at the animals and then seeing the animal feeding time. The guy who was feeding the animals was super knowledgeable and informative. It sounded like he has spent a lot of time taking care of each animal. He knew so much about it was cool to see full on alligators sitting in the corner in an enclosed area. They had all the different kinds of poisonous snakes. My favorite was seeing the king cobra and reticulated python. So many cool animals. If you can make it out here in the next month or so, you should do it. So worthwhile to come and see. read more

We love the Reptile Zoo! It's a small local zoo, but they have a lot of animals and exhibits in their space. The animals are all well taken care of and many of them are rescues. In the summer, there's a big outside area for tortoises that you can pet (there's an indoor area in the winter). Admission prices are very reasonable and they have a great gift shop. They recently temporarily closed to do a refresh, it's clean and more open. We love to bring our baby here because it's not so big to be overwhelming, but it's great for big kids too. Reptiles like to be warm so it's generally quite warm inside, we love it for a rainy day outing. read more

Super fun place to visit in Monroe! Looks like a small unassuming building but it jammed packed with tons of snakes, turtles, crocs etc. They have a reptile encounter where you can pet a snake or some other reptile. When we went, a huge constrictor named Layla was out and we got to stroke it. The fellow there was very informative and knowledgeable. We got to see and learn about many reptiles. We took our grandson there but ended up enjoying it (or more!) as much as he did. There was a two headed turtle and an albino alligator-cool!! Lots of photo ops and a fun scavenger hunt activity. Just go in unknowingly. Don't look at any photos. Enter not expecting much. You're welcome. I love all animals, but never had a real fondness for most reptiles or snakes. Wow! What an unexpected surprise stopping at this place on the way to Leavenworth. We almost didn't turn around. Even if you think you are not into these kind of animals, you'll be amazed by the largeness of some of the snakes, the small crocodile that sits in the water and lunges up to try to bite your face off, albino alligator, and so much more. There is way too many to mention. You'll read about the diets, ages, names of the inhabitants learning something new and seeing something you most likely have never seen before. I felt a true sense of wonderment and left in a better mood than when I entered. What more could you ask for!? This place literally shifted my perspective and piqued my interest in reptiles and snakes. Parking: large private lot with plenty of parking Outside you many also see a lot of big, fluffy rabbits. We had a great visit to the reptile zoo today! Happy they were open on Presidents' Day. The enclosures seem to be kept clean, and the reptiles seem well cared for. The staff member was very friendly, admission prices were very reasonable and so was the merch in the gift shop! Fun way to spend the afternoon, my 13 and 6 year old thoroughly enjoyed it. We love the reptile zoo. My son, now ten, and I have been going ever since he was a toddler on random days off from school. We always make a day out of it - lunch and reptiles. The staff is friendly and helpful and I love that the animals appear satisfied and well taken care of. We have so many fond memories (and pictures) of us with snakes and him with his various alligator stuffies along side the real alligators. Pete and Repete (the two headed turtle) is one of our favs. I love that this place is around and helps to take care of these animals, and it is definitely worth stopping in and visiting if you have the time. read more

We were driving by on a roadtrip and passed "The Reptile Zoo". After lots of chanting about turning around, we did...and we were not disappointed! As reptile lovers and owners. It was wonderful to see the care that was given to each of their animals. The cages were large enough and clean to safely house all of the pets (most of which were rescued). The owner even took the time to chat with us about our sulcatta tortoises that are constantly escaping...and how to secure them better. To our surprise, the place was big, and had plenty to see. If I were between 5 and 10 years old, this would have been the coolest place ever! However, since I'm a grown adult and have owned reptiles for over 20 years, this place is more akin to a roadside freak show than a zoo. While there is information on the animals and you do see quite a variety, there is a lot to be desired. The staff is friendly and more than willing to answer questions. They have a modest gift shop with some things for small children. Around the zoo, they had televisions playing various documentaries. However, when we were there the documentaries were not actually playing, it was just the menu to the documentary. The building was also in pretty poor condition. As other reviewers have said, there's duct tape holding up portions of the building and parts of the animal enclosures. There appears to be black mold in several areas. The siding on the building is rotting off and something inside the building was bothering the eyes of my wife. (She said that she kept smelling bleach and that her eyes started burning.) The really sad part was the condition of the animals and their enclosures. I'm not sure if they leave the shed of the animal inside the enclosure for the audience to see or if they just haven't cleaned the enclosures in a while but almost every animal had some form of shed laying in the enclosure with it or still stuck to its body. Most reptile keepers will tell you that an incomplete shed means there's a problem with the humidity of your enclosure and many of the reptiles in this facility had this problem. We also noticed a few of the enclosures had no visible heat source. While I can't confirm if a heat pad existed in the enclosure, they definitely did not have a basking spot or a ceramic heat emitter. However, the most egregious thing is the condition of the animal enclosures themselves, having seen multiple enclosures that were filled with feces and urates. If you spot clean, these take no time at all to clean up, especially in an enclosure of a non-venomous animal. Also, some of the enclosures are far too small for the animals that they're housing. Some of the larger animals clearly need far more room than they're getting. Hell, even the care cards posted on the enclosures are specifying conditions that are not being met for the animal in that enclosure. For instance, the iguana had no place to swim... Actually a lot of animals had no place to swim or soak. (Something that would definitely help with the stuck shed.) I really hate to come down on this place like this because the staff was pretty nice and I'm sure that they don't make a whole lot of money being a roadside attraction. But maybe if they cut down on the number of animals they have (do you need 3 Burmese pythons and 3 Reticulated pythons?... 1 is hard enough to care for) and worked on proper enclosure care, maintenance and size for some of the more exotic species they have, they'd attract more business. read more

Load of reptiles for a little area! The kids can probably spend 30-40 minutes there. A decent drive from the city but the kids love this place. It's interactive and they love the crocs. The best place for a fun date! Takes about an hour to get through all the animals. But you're able to be there for as long as you'd like. There's a small admission fee. Under $20 dollars. I have been coming here since I was little and I always have the best time getting to look at the animals, and reading and learning about them. They are always rescuing new animals and even have had the same ones since they have been open. They even do petting hours sometimes, we were lucky enough and got to pet a snake while we were there! I personally don't like reptiles, other than turtles. It was a safe and fun experience for my kids, especially during a pandemic right now. Everyone had mask one, well most. There was a few customers who didn't fully cover up their nose. We came on a Sunday and there wasn't any hands on feeding or experience that day, other day petting the smaller tortoise outside, which my kids loved. The zoo had sanitizers in few spots, where people can wash their hands after touching the reptiles. The "zoo" was a bit small but had a lot of good reptiles, from albino alligator to a 2 head turtle and top 10 deadliest snakes. It's a cool visit if you've never been here before. I understand the animals in this place require a warm, humid climate but it definitely caught me off guard and hit me like a freight train when we walked in. It was so fun and everyone was still talking about it on the long drive home. We saw species we'd only heard about or saw in movies. Super educational and something 'different' to do with the family. The owner was super nice and you could tell his reptiles are his passion by the way he answered questions. He wanted to educate. Recently took my 9 yr old son to the Reptile Zoo for the first time and we both had a great time. They have some really incredible animals that, honestly, you don't even get to see at regular sized zoos in Seattle/Tacoma. I mean, they have a green anaconda! How cool is that? Highlights for us were the VERY large alligator, the snapping turtle, the various snakes (western diamondback and king cobra were very impressive as well), and the tortoises. Things to know before you go: 1) Reptiles need it warm. It is WARM, verging on hot. We went on a cold day outside so it was fine for us, but I would recommend if you are going in the summer to wear shorts and sleeveless clothes and pretend you are going to Florida for an hour or so, because it's humid as heck. 2) They do feedings! My son was elated that he got to see the alligators and the anaconda being fed, but some of them they only feed once a week, so make sure you call if you are interested in seeing that. 3) The animals are really well cared for, imo. The enclosures seemed appropriate for the size of the animals and most are rescues. 4) If you don't like the smell of pee, I would recommend just staying away from the tortoises. That's the only part that I noticed any "animal smells" and it was mild by my tolerance. But if you are sensitive to it, maybe just don't go! Overall, we had a great time and would go again. The price is fair and not a gouge at all, like a lot of places these days. We'll be back for sure! read more

I visited on a Monday morning. The place is fairly small, I was quite surprised. I guess when I think about zoo I had only big zoos to compare to. You can expect for it to be muggy & humid inside. I would have preferred to visit in the winter. I walked around sweating. Also, on that day there were so many little kids from a school/day care/camp. Who knows but there were waaaay to many little kids for the space. I cant even imagine how busy weekends might be in there. It was awesome to see all the reptiles they have & to have been able to pet the turtles. Although, I will say their website was a bit misleading. They only do petting on certain days & can be subjected to change. Not all reptiles were out on that day. & for being a small place & not have all reptiles out was bit disappointing. I did the scavenger hun they have which could be fun for kids. At the end they get a reptile post card They have a small store with toys/ snacks & more. I was there for a total of 45min. & i walked out drenched in sweat! Maybe wear a swim suit if you visit during the summer. If youre in the area maybe stop by. But if you are traveling from far (like me) I wouldnt recommend. Unless youre a die hard reptile lover. The only pictures I got due to all the children hugging the windows. read more

We took our 5+3 yo boys - they loved it. We planned for 90 mins and came out just under that. It allowed plenty of time to stare and go back to the favs. We got there right in time to pet the alligator and python - a big hit with our older one. I have a kiddo who is obsessed with reptiles and this is a perfect place to visit. Surprisingly, I enjoyed it myself too. There are many reptiles to look at and each had detailed descriptions. It's both fun and educational for the family. The extra $3/pp for the closed encounter experience is s much. Each party get about 3-5mins to touch the giant yellow snake and the alligator. Though the reptiles are really cool the place isn't really a "zoo". All enclosures are glass aquariums. I honestly felt that I was walking around a pet store instead of a zoo. To be fair, the enclosures and animals seemed well kept but the building itself felt more like a warehouse with cages in it. The gift shop and store front is really small. There are doors to the left and right after you pay admission and both are for meandering through. Plenty of parking. During your visit there are designated times where the keepers go around feeding/cleaning the animals and you can learn more about them and ask questions. Great learning experience for the inquisitive child. There are some great photo ops here as well when the reptiles get up close to the glass. There is a flimsy and discreet posted sign that states that all the venomous reptiles have been surgically de-venomized. read more

This is one weird GD experience; I'll give you that! This weekend, my girlfriend and I spend a lovely weekend in a cabin in Index, WA (on highway 2). On the way, I saw this place from the road and thought "hmm, should I?" During the weekend, I got a screw stuck in my tire and had to drive into Monroe to Les Scwab to get it fixed (they fixed it an hour and a half after closing-great job, guys!) and saw this place again. It was calling me. So on the way back home, I stopped in. I asked my girlfriend if she wanted to come in, but she told me she would stay in the car and read instead. So I ventured in and witnessed all the reptiles Reptile Zoo had to offer: from the giant tortoises, snapping turtle, to the cockroaches, to the snakes, including an anaconda and about 20 lizards, ranging in size from small to about 6 feet in length, they were all there for the viewing. It didn't really feel like a zoo; that's the thing. It felt like a room with a bunch of reptiles in enclosures. +1 star for being unique +1 star for being open 365 days a year AND having a party room (I know if I had kids, I'd send them to the little 7x10 room at reptile zoo--hell, I'd send them for Thanksgiving! +1 star for being a part of fading Americana -1 star for feeling creepy -1 star for their treatment of these creatures (for god's sake, at least put them in naturalistic settings---and you surgically removed their venom glands? what if I removed some of YOUR glands??) I have to say that I'm shocked at the good reviews about this place. I give it a star for keeping the animal areas clean and one for being educational BUT: They are kept in WAY too small of enclosures without anything in there with them. They have a fun little sign saying "FAQ: dont the reptiles need more space? --No, reptiles dont need space like birds or humans...". WRONG! 5 foot alligators in the wild do not live in stark bathtub-like environments. The anaconda can barely fit in it's enclosure. There are "do not tap on the glass" signs everywhere, but with so many kids running around it's inevitable. I saw at least 3 tapping on glass, and one knocking on the shell of a tortoise. Poor guy couldnt run away very fast, and even if he could have he was reachable from most places in his pen. The bored/unhappy teenager at the front desk didnt inspire any confidence in me either. Nor did the myriad of reptile kitch for sale. I regret giving them $6 to keep this place going. read more

However, they really do a lot to educate people about the beauty and value of these animals with their school presentations and the zoo. The animals are really beautiful. Minus the strong "reptile" smell, we had a great time, WARNING, this place gets really HOT inside, to keep the critters comfy. Leave your jackets and sweaters in the car! The smell did get to my Dad, he left after a half an hour to stand outside, I found the smell inside strong but bearable, just be forewarned. Snakes are housed in various size tanks and habitats, the only problem I had was with some of the larger critters, the crocs and the huge fresh water turtle. Their housing seemed too small, I did see some signs stating they were in the process of improving these habitats, that's hopeful. For the price you do get to actually see the world's 10 deadliest snakes, which is kinda cool. Those who are not snake fans should also note all the snakes on display have been de-venomized, (is that a word?), just in case one should get out and run a rampage!! Well not run, more like slither about. There are other reptiles to see and a bunch of snakes to hold. I uploaded a picture of our youngest gett'n back to nature, she's 4 and had a BLAST! Well worth a day trip or afternoon to check things out, 4 stars only, the smell can be offensive to some, hence the down grade. For the reptile set, this place is pretty cool. read more
