Garden room shower
Jesse S.

Lovely property in a great neighborhood! The staff is incredibly welcoming from start to finish. And if they weren't welcoming enough, there's two dogs that can often be seen laying on the tile floor in the lobby waiting to say hello. I opted for the Garden Room and found it the perfect size for a short stay. The bathroom is tight, but only poses a real challenge when you're going to the shower behind the door. The inner courtyard is very quiet, and if you sleep in you'll wake up to the sounds of light chatter and laughter once breakfast starts at 8am. Don't miss that breakfast - there's coffee, fruits, baked goods, and one hot entree each morning. Unfortunately, I was out each day during the evening social but hear it's worth sticking around for. Highly recommend making this your home base for you next stay in CDMX.

As a first-timer to Mexico City, I relied on lots of reviews, and the Red Tree House was always a top choice. I never found much in the way of detail online so will share what I can here. The neighborhood: This is in the Condesa / Hipodromo area, which consists of tree-lined streets, lots of joggers and walked dogs, and traffic circles everywhere with cafe's, shops, and restaurants. It's very safe, comfortable, and clean. I would stay in Condesa again, even after visiting the nearby neighborhoods. It's a great place for a morning walk. The rooms: I had to break up my reservations due to a suite not being available for all the nights I was there, so I got to experience four different rooms. The first night was in a garden room on the first floor. This was a very simple hotel style room with two queen beds, both very comfortable, a TV, a chair, and some cube like things you could sit on. Like other hotel rooms, not really where you want to hang out. The french doors opened right up to the courtyard, where breakfast can be had in the morning, and happy hour in the evening. This room was $100 a night. The next three nights we stayed in the Lafayette Suite. A third floor suite with a separate bedroom, a kitchenette, dining area, and sitting area with two small couches and wrap-around glass paned walls. This was my favorite area to sit, with birds and trees enshrouding the space and offering privacy, despite being right above the communal courtyard. I loved this room for its size and comfort. My only complaint would be the smaller shower. $200 a night. Night five was in the Frida room. A garden room but on the second floor. One bed and again, a smaller shower. Still a very comfortable room, but I missed the couches and fridge. $100 Night six, our last night, we ended up in the Terrace Suite. The "terrace" is huge, and offers two sitting areas. One is a bistro set overlooking the street. Lots of planters with small trees and beautiful plants. We loved sitting out here, and enjoyed our morning coffee. (Another couple mentioned the noise staying in this suite from the street, but I didn't really notice anything.) The interior has a kitchen with a seating area for two, and an adjacent sleeping area with large bed and TV. Next to the bed are two chairs and a coffee table right next to the floor to ceiling glass panes looking onto the terrace. The other side of the bed has another small terrace overlooking the courtyard. Through a hallway you will find the very large bathroom complete with dual sinks, centerpiece bathtub, and large shower. This room was an entirely different layout than the other suite, and if I were to choose, I would pick this one due to the terrace, even if the other one offered more privacy and quiet. $200. Happy Hour: Not what you would think. It's beer and wine from 6 to 8 pm, but it's really all about the socializing, meeting friendly world travelers with great stories and recommendations. The staff is always there to greet and welcome, and makes you feel like family. Breakfast: Every day we had something different. All dishes were pretty light, which was perfect, and all were outstanding. They offer a hot dish, but also have yogurt, breads, cereal, cut fruit, churros etc., sitting out on a long buffet to help yourself. Coffee is self service, and good enough to have a second cup. The staff: The best part of the place. Everyone is incredibly warm and helpful, consistently going above and beyond. I've never experienced this level of hospitality anywhere, ever. I can't imaging staying anywhere else on my next visit to the city. If you are even considering a trip to Mexico City, book here well in advance, because it's worth it, unless you are really antisocial, or just plain weird.

The Red Tree House was an amazing find. This was our first trip to Mexico City and we didn't know what to expect. Our friends (David and Adam) recommended we stay here. The B and B is in the heart of Condessa and has a lot of restaurants and shops within walking distance. Everyone from the guests to the staff were amazingly friendly. Breakfast was a journey into Mexican flavor. The art of the wall was beautifully done by local artists. Oh, don't forget about happy hour each night. If you have the opportunity to stay here, jump on it. You will not regret it.

The Red Tree House is a quiet, peaceful, and beautiful bed & breakfast. The house--which surrounds an oasis-like inner courtyard filled with lush plantings, twinkling fairy lights, and gurgling fountains--is stunningly gorgeous and absolutely brimming with character. The staff is lovely and welcoming. There's a delicious hot breakfast of Mexican specialties served each morning, and a beer-and-wine social hour every evening. And the original art that adorns every wall is gallery worthy. Our room was cozy and dreamy and had French doors opening onto a balcony that overlooked the courtyard. Swoon! Our only wish is that we could have stayed longer.

Apt 102 2nd bedroom

When I told a friend of mine I was considering staying here, he told me if I didn't I was "muy estupido!" And I'd have to agree. This is the best place to stay. Granted I have not stayed anywhere else in Mexico City since this was my first time. But a friend of the owner had come in and said I believe friends of his were staying at a hotel and they weren't happy, so he was checking to see if there was space, and unfortunately for them, there wasn't. We stayed in Apartment 102 which is in the building right next door. It is a 2 bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, living and dining areas, and a great balcony. We've also just been on our own when we stay like this, but housekeeping came by everyday. Any issues with the apartment were taken care of promptly. Great comfy beds, hard wood floors that creak wonderfully, but most important was how quiet it was at night. Breakfast was served from 8-10 am and we came down late each day...yes, it was spring break...Fresh fruit, coffee, juice, yogurt. breads, and cereal were ready for your start, and then a made to order hot Mexican breakfast came when you were ready. Each day had something different. The whole staff is friendly and helpful! Alex helped us with everything for getting around the city. He also arranged a driver to take us to the Teotihuacan Pyramids. Ricardo was the same driver who picked us up at the airport, and he even waited quite a while when our flight was late and customs was a zoo. We met some really nice travelers New York City, Quebec, North Carolina, Brazil, and even the San Diego area and Los Angeles. There was one annoying guest who wouldn't stop talking about herself. The evening happy hour is a lot of fun to talk with other guests, and the owner Craig, and trade information about Mexico City. The Metro was on 5 pesos and we never had to wait long for a train. If you ever visit this beautiful city, this is the only place to stay. If you don't, I say this with much love, "eres estúpido!" LOL!

I screwed the dates up...and they Still took me in! ( Be careful - Mexico speaks in Month / Date / Year. Americans book in Date / Month / Year ) Wow, wow, wow. Was recommended by a friend here in the Castro and it was Magnificent. Located in a spectacular part of the city, La Condesa, the room was so clean, sleek & modern. They put me in the penthouse for final night - felt like a celebrity. Breakfast comes with room in morning. Glorious food. Alejandro & Rachel's salaries should be doubled - above and beyond in accommodations. Cant wait to return and wanna check out the one in Oaxaca. ( Warning: pay your remaining bill with cash/pesos! You'll be STUNNED the tax rate the Country slaps onto your credit card. )

If you're ever in CDMX and want to explore the best neighborhood the city has to offer (Condessa/Roma) stay here! The location is full of artsy restaurants and shops, lined with gorgeous trees and artwork, buildings from a century ago, and more! The actual b&b is a feast for your eyes. The style and decor leave nothing to chance, care is in the details. Wrought iron staircases, 20 foot tall paintings, pianos, indoor-outdoor lounge areas, stained glass... The hosts are gracious and make you feel like you want this to be home. From the first call, to checking out, each red tree house member I interacted with went above and beyond with genuine care and kindness. Don't miss breakfast (yummy veggie omelet was my recent choice) or happy hour From tips for local fare, Frida museum ticket low-down, or helping me acquire muletas from a pyramid ankle accident - they were tops! Two words: stay here

Alex and Pepe. As professional and friendly as it gets! We'll be back!

It's the best place to stay in Mexico City, hands down. The staff - and it's so odd to call them staff, and they become friends - is friendly, professional and will take care of all you needs! Everything is perfect to the detail, from original art on the walls to the breakfast dishes. Don't miss breakfast, you won't get it better anywhere else! We're keep coming back. Oh, they also own Casa Sol in Zipolite! Heaven on earth!

You will not regret staying at The Red Tree House! The location is ideal and felt like a sanctuary after long days! The room was clean, spacious, and had very comfortable beds. Bottled water was provided daily and upon request. Breakfast was bountiful, delicious, and social - don't eat on your patio. Join others! Happy Hour is available daily from 6-8 and is also very sociable. We did not want to leave, and look forward to returning!

As someone who travels frequently for both work and pleasure, I can say with complete certainty…read morethat La Valise CDMX is one of the finest hotels I've had the pleasure of staying at. Everything from the pre-stay communication and exceptional customer service to the beautiful and tastefully decorated accommodations was world class. My wife and I started our honeymoon with two nights in La Luna suite, one of only three rooms at the hotel. Prior to our stay, I emailed several times with the staff to hammer out some details. They provided a beautiful complimentary bouquet of white roses in our room, which was more of a luxury one bedroom apartment with kitchen and superb bathroom. Emails were returned within a matter of minutes, and always were very pleasant. Our initial flight to Mexico City was delayed for four hours, and we missed our opportunity to visit the archeology museum. When we arrived to La Valise, we were welcomed with a shot of very tasty mezcal and freshly sliced orange. The hotel then delivered our luggage to our room along with the remainder of the bottle of mezcal while we went for a walk in the neighborhood, again complimentary. The attention to detail in our room was superb. The bathroom was supplied with excellent soaps and shampoos, along with fragrant bath salts to use in the claw foot tub. The refrigerator was stalked with complimentary still and sparkling water, beer, and juice. Wifi was excellent, with a UE Boom speaker and Apple TV provided. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, and the complimentary coffee provided by the shop next door was exceptional. The icing on top of our trip happened when we unfortunately left a cell phone in the back of an Uber. We left Mexico City early the following morning, making it impossible for Uber to return our phone to us. The hotel helped us facilitate calling our carrier to turn off service to the phone, and volunteered to allow us to use them as a contact for the return of the phone. The manager, Roberto, communicated with us frequently to let us know the phone had been returned, and is going to meet us at the airport in several days to hand deliver while we have a lengthy layover on our return home... On Christmas Eve Day!! I cannot recommend this hotel enough. It exceeded our expectations.

We booked the El Patio which is on the first floor (our friends did La Terraza which was on the third floor with a roll out to the balcony bed!). We didn't have that luxury but our stay was one of the most pleasant stays we've had at a hotel. Our suite was tastefully appointed. Incredibly comfortable bed, and a darling patio with a swing and a hammock. We couldn't spend much time on the patio because it rained quite a bit while we were there. A special shout out to the bath products - divine. Breakfast was simple but fresh and delicious. Fruits, yogurt, granola, and fresh juice. Room service was catered by Rosetta and El Khalifa. The UE roll added an atmospheric vibe, perfect for lazing around the suite. The only con, if any, is I wish they had more lights in the room. I highly recommend this lovely little hotel. Roma Norte is a delightful neighborhood and you'll enjoy exploring all its little secrets.

And a good friend of mine, when doing tours of Mexico, chooses it, made me want to try it. Walking distance from the Line 1 Metrobus on Insurgentes is a big plus. Ditto its proximity to both Roma and Condesa neighborhoods. Reasonably priced, and perfect for my solo visit. A firm but not uncomfortably hard bed (hard beds can be an issue in Mexico. Hotels buy harder beds to last longer and it can be like sleeping on concrete. Good WiFi. Lots of electric outlets. A great shower with almost immediate hot water. I was once in a hotel or two in Puebla where one had to run the water so long for the hot water to travel to the room that one felt very guilty about wasting all of that water. I loved the walk-in shower because of its ample space and found that this room, number 205, for a single traveler, had an incredible amount of space for me to lay out all the stuff that I had to lay out. Another plus was the plastic garbage bucket which I was able to fill with water and do daily washing of my clothes because I had forgot to pack enough. And in this particular room, everything dried overnight. Dryness. Make sure you've got drinking water. The fan worked fine and I did not have any need for air conditioning. The month was April. All in all, although I am trying a different hotel every two nights in order to find ones to recommend, I would stay here again, but I would probably book a junior suite as traveling with my wife would mandate a larger room for sure.

It's a hugely busy street, with buses, garbage trucks, police, ambulances, and all kinds of other loud automobiles roaring by at all hours. Every time a large car rumbles by, the entire hotel shakes. The room had no air conditioning, was rather spartan, and no screens over the window. Watch out after a long night of drinking tequila! The small fan in the room was nowhere near ample to keep things cool here. It was horrible. The second room was much nicer- for an additional surcharge, you can upgrade to a room with an air conditioner! It had a large Jacuzzi, and a television. This room faced Calle Popocatapetl, which is a much less busy street, so things were quieter. The lights all worked, and the TV had limited reception, with about a dozen channels. The sink and the toilet got clogged easily. The staff at the hotel was on the ball- they were helpful and courteous. The prices were quite low. The internet was out much of the time, and when it worked, it was spotty and slow. The hotel has a restaurant on site, and the place was clean. They take credit cards. Hotel Roosevelt is located right next to a bus stop, but not too close to the subway. It's in a cool neighborhood, and there's lots of fun places to eat and drink nearby.

We intentionally chose this hotel for its historic location and were aware of the location in the Zócalo area, which we were completely fine with. I will say upfront that the doormen were the highlight of our experience. They were consistently welcoming, informative, and far more helpful than the front desk staff. We booked a Zócalo junior suite and made multiple efforts in advance both by phone and email to request early check-in and a higher-floor room due to potential noise from the square. Upon arrival early in the morning at six am, we were told our room wasn't ready and were handed a key to wait in a lounge area. However, no one directed us there or explained anything the doorman had to step in and assist us. Unfortunately, the lounge itself was not very clean, with crumbs visible on the couches. When check-in time approached (around 2:30 PM, slightly before their standard 3 PM), I reiterated our request for a higher floor. Despite this, we were assigned room 103. We were told no other rooms were available, even though we had been there since 6 AM. Not wanting to go back and forth, we accepted the room. After a long overnight flight (delayed nearly three hours), we went to rest. Shortly after, we were woken up by a window that would not stay shut. There was an event in the Zócalo, so noise levels were extremely high. Additionally, our room was positioned directly below portable restrooms, and there was a noticeable sewage smell. Maintenance was sent to close the window, but we were hesitant to open it again after that. Being on such a low floor also meant we had no privacy and could not comfortably open the windows anyway. The following day, before leaving for the pyramids, I called the front desk (in Spanish) to request room cleaning and additional towels. When we returned around 2 PM, nothing had been done. Upon calling again, I was told that I had requested "room service," which was incorrect. There was no apology only blame. When housekeeping eventually came by, I had to gather trash myself from the bathroom and we were informed (for the first time) that a sign needed to be placed outside the door to receive service. This was never explained during check-in. Over the course of our four-day stay, our room was cleaned only once. The room itself had several issues. The air conditioning did not work properly and made loud noises throughout the night, leaving us waking up overheated. Because of our room location, opening the windows was not a viable option. The shower was also unsafe the handle was loose and nearly came off when I grabbed it, causing me to almost slip and fall. There were also loose electrical outlets in the bathroom, which was concerning. Additionally, our room consistently smelled like sewage, even though the hallways and lobby did not. The lobby itself was often overcrowded with visitors taking photos of the ceiling, making it difficult to move through at times. The room also did not match what was advertised online. The beds were not the four-poster style shown in photos instead, they were standard beds with a detached headboard that repeatedly knocked against the wall throughout the night. Overall, this stay was very disappointing. Between the lack of cleanliness, poor service, and room issues, it did not meet expectations especially for a hotel of this reputation. While we understood and accepted the challenges of the location, the service and room conditions were the main concerns. Unfortunately, I would not choose to stay here again, and part of me wishes we could receive some form of refund for the experience. Tips: For those traveling don't stay here if you don't want to walk to your uber especially late at night. If there are events that will result in street closures you will have to walk even further to get an uber. There was protests in the zocalo when we were there. At night the homeless come out and sleep around the area and right by the hotel. Ask for a higher floor or take ear plugs cus you won't be able to sleep there is a bar or a club somewhere that plays music till 3 am.

This is the best hotel I've stayed at in CDMX on approximately 30+ trips here. This includes the W (nope), Westin (uh-uh), Sheraton (chaos, if there's a demonstration - and there usually is one ongoing), even the St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott - all too stuffy. Santiago from NJ, by way of the NYU Shanghai campus, was excellent and almost everyone here speaks English perfectly. I felt like I was in NYC, except that the service was better and the staff was much more accommodating. Breakfast was included, nothing spectacular, but everything was solid, good coffee, fresh fruit, fresh pastries, good jams and yogurt. Perfect, light start to the day. The room was not big, but well laid out with every amenity, refrigerator, beverages, Nespresso machine, bottled water and a selection of assorted snacks - all complimentary (except alcohol, unnecessary with all the good bars nearby). The gym was literally situated in a single hotel room on the lower floor. It was tiny, but fully equipped for a one-person, HIIT session. The single issue was the incessant bass drone from the bar nearby. Earplugs didn't work because it wasn't possible to mask the low Hz frequency effectively. Every major museum was about a 25 minute stroll through scenic neighborhoods to get to. Some of the best restaurants (Nobu, Sylvestre) were around the corner. All in all this is probably the best place to stay in CDMX. If not for the bass from the bar, which was totally not the hotel's fault, this was probably the quietest hotel I've ever stayed in Mexico (no children or pets, I think, but not sure). No drunk teens shouting in the hallways - idyllic. About $500-$700/night depending on date. Totally worth it.
