They are the worst ever. I never use their service. I got it because my husband and brother died and thought I needed it for the obituary that never happened. I canceled and they are still charging my card. I have no money now and they did this last month but refunded my money but now the 2nd time they do this they wont refund it even though i clearly canceled. I have subscribed to this paper for almost 25 years. I have stuck with it through all of its mutations, but I've finally reached the limit of my patience. Today was the first day of mail delivery. I really hate the idea of receiving my morning paper delivered in the afternoon and having to walk half a block to get it out of my mailbox. I really wasn't surprised when I went to the mailbox to today to find no paper. Really, almost $100.00 per month for a newspaper whose content is frequently two days old and access to a website that is practically unusable is outrageous. Tomorrow I will cancel my subscription. I will get my news for free on line and local and national news broadcasts. I'm extremely disappointed. The Stockton Wrecker's motto is: "Yesterdays news tomorrow". I take sunday only paper + enewspaper. Today no sunday paper. I called the automated number, got an automated "dont report missing paper until after 12". So i called after 3pm and got an automated "we have recorded your issue". No sunday paper for me !! Our mail comes between 10:30 am and 7:00 pm Mon--Sat. I guess the recording thinks there is magic Sunday mail. No wonder newspapers are dying. read more

This publication be it online or paper, has been deteriorating for the last 20 years. It's gone from being a full-fledged newspaper to a almost daily pamphlet. At the same time subscription rates have gone up tenfold. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was their customer service, or lack thereof. I paid for an all-inclusive digital subscription but it didn't work. I could only get the record net not the e edition. I wrote the customer service 2 weeks ago and still have not received a response. That's not the customer service of a company who wants you as a customer or that you want to do business with. In the last 4 months we have not received a paper 16 times. You can call and report as no one answers the phone. Seems like fraud to take your money for a paper you have paid for then not get the paper. I am very disappointed with the Stockton record . My mom is in her 90's and part of her daily routine is reading the paper first thing g in the morning . They charge a ridiculous amount for the subscription and had taken Saturday papers away without offering any discounts for the seniors . What 90 year old gets online to read a paper ? Now they are going to stop daily deliveries in the mornings and have the paper come with the mail which comes late afternoon. Not only that but since there is no mail service on Sunday I am assuming Sunday papers will now only be online as well . This is very disrespectful to our seniors ! I came to Stockton today from LA to plan my fathers funeral service. I had no appointment and walked into the office to have an obituary created, Vanessa Santacruz did an outstanding job and was very helpful. She did not hesitate in helping me create a obituary that would be suitable for my dad. She even went out of her way to edit the photo of him and brighten the details to make it even better for his service. Lets start off with you cannot find this paper in Stockton or Manteca. I place my father's obituary in the Record to run today. I live in Manteca which is about 8 miles from Stockton. I went to 18 gas stations and this paper is no where. I went to the Record and they have no way to contacting anyone in the building. I paid $500 for nothing, an online ad. This paper should be closed permanently. Disappointed beyond words, what a horrible paper to basically steal money from people with no consequences. I'll be perusing legal action. read more

There is no actual number to contact to get a response to any questions. The phone numbers just are a run-a-round. It looks like the real-estate sales for the area were discontinued for two weeks and I wanted to know about them. Could not get a correct way to contact a live body to find out the issues. Also when I paid my bill this year there were 3 different prices for the same time. I wrote complaining as I paid a higher one and then later in the mail received a less bill. I sent an email regarding this but never received an answer. When it comes time to renew, I will think hard about that and probably stop receiving the record. I appreciate the Record moving into New technology offering digital subscriptions. I signed up for a yearly online sub. I still don't read it often enough to keep it. It was very frustrating as there is no easy "cancel" point anywhere on my account. I called and finally someone helped my cancelation. I am still paid until March 2021. I am frustrated again as every time I try to open a news article, a cybor add for subscriptions comes up WITH NO "x" to bypass. I sincerely hope these bugs are resolved. read more

I subscribe to a 8-week 7day service. They withdrawal $24.95 from my bank account on 11/28/16 and paper starts the next day or two, so far so good... today Sunday 12/11/16 I have no Sunday paper. I call customer service and they can't find where they took out $24.95, they tell me I was getting some sample subscription the last few days and my paper will start when that payment post which will be 7-14 business days!!! This doesn't make any sense! The said the floor manager named Mike will call me back within 30 minutes and it's been about an hour and a half and they close at 10am. They have major logistics issues. I*** BEWARE*** THE STOCKTON RECORD! "THE RECORD" I renewed my subscription online on 2/21/19 for 13 weeks which put me at an expiration date of 5/24/19. Mid April I started to get renewal notices, so I called to find out what was going on. I had an email to prove my payment stating my payment on Feb. 21 for 13 weeks. Customer service said I had a balance of $ 27.00 .. Confused I said what? I have a receipt for my payment in Feb. for 13 weeks, well you receive premium services and you owe for that? What ? What the hell is premium services? I get the paper Fri, Sat. and Sun. what do I get, the customer service agent went on and on in a monotone voice and I did start to go off, I asked for a supervisor, the supervisor said oh, it's all in the disclaimer! What? The disclaimer states you'll get charged for a premium service? yes ? it's the inserts in the paper.. What? I didn't sign up for that, oh yes, you did , it's a disclaimer on the bottom of your bill or online... So you get charged for something you don't ask for, how is that a disclaimer? they never bill you for it, they charge your account and when you call due to your subscription being cancelled early with no warning they lay it on you at that time.. Slick, that's a Hustle!! This can't be legal.. If they can get away with this, any company where you sign a contract could use such a disclaimer.. The Record is hustling customers !!! they need to be put out of business for good. There is something really wrong here, fees are to be charged up front, I never received a bill other than a renewal for services, never did the statement show a balance owing!! If your charging someone the fees should be upfront and billed at least at the time of renewal, not left to accumulate , that's a Sting! and now they charge for sending out a statement a fee of $9.00 dollars!! Hustlers !!! it's a shame but they need to be shut down. So of course I cancelled the "Premium Services" what a farce.. and then they said I may still receive the inserts as they can't pull them out! I have been trying for two weeks to start a home delivery service and when I contact someone over phone they keep saying delivery start tomorrow. Call the next day they say delivery start tomorrow but that never happens. I even drove to office in Stockton to talk to a human but doors locked and a nice security man is the only person there. What has happened to customer service. If the record treats all customers this way I can see why newspapers are failing. If you want to read more than 20 articles online on recordnet.com you can subscribe for $2.29 a week. You want to know why smaller newspapers companies are closing? Because this crap- get advertisers to pay to put their ad on your website that way local news is free and accessible to everyone. I think reading the news online should be free and there are many other places to read local news online. Your article of December 27th titled "Dangerous Precedent" showed a picture of the beautiful Yosemite Valley in winter. This is a view I have experienced many times... BUT your article had literally NOTHING to do with that view. The Record is so far from "fair and balanced' that the paper is becoming almost laughable if the media were not such a powerful propaganda force for so called progressives in this country. Remember the adage that a picture is worth a thousand words. Needless to say, YOU led off the story with a picture to either create a panic among those of us who care about the environment or you were just too lazy to show a picture of the real area this beneficial project would affect. The power of the press must be used fairly and truthfully. Stop trying to deceive the masses with "Obamaesque" lies and put the truth first. It really bothers me to have to do this, but I just canceled my monthly subscription with the Record. I can't believe that it has gone up to $46.80 a month. I have been a subscriber for over 40 years. But this is just too much; I can actually subscribe to the Wall Street Journal for the price the record charges for two months subscription. Major delivery problems. This is the third time I subscribed to the paper. Both previous times I canceled due to poor delivery service. Subscribed to a special they were offered two weeks ago and have not received a normal delivery yet. I have had to call each day and report that the paper wasn't delivered to even get one. Wish I could give NEGATIVE stars!! I signed up over 2 years ago, requested paper delivered to porch, which they assured they could do. Paper thrown on end of driveway, one time on roof or not delivered at all!! Multiple calls, promises of return call by Supervisor and nothing! Decided to request Sunday delivery ONLY. How can they mess that up? Paper not delivered half of time. Called today because not delivered and was told by Demarcus/Demarius that paper would be delivered. NOTHING!!! But, when holidays roll around delivery person makes sure to leave a card with their information for gifts!! Seriously!?? The Record really needs to consider stopping ALL delivery service due to inept ability to provide rhe service consistently!!! Worse ever and I will be calling to cancel the service indefinitely!! Our local paper. It used to be called the "Stockton" Record but with the change of press affiliation came the new more inclusive name,"The Record"; this I am sure to also expand readership, subscriber-ship, ad sales etc. Good business move? You decide. I still prefer the hard copy edition. Something about holding a newspaper in ones hand, hearing the crinkling of the large awkward pages (to fold or not to fold?) scanning the "whole" page; not having to use a mouse wheel to scroll and roll about the copy. You may say, "That's old fashioned"! Yes, it is! I always enjoy Mike Fitzgerald's column & commentaries. We may not always agree, but it is evident that Mike loves his Stockton and cares about both our history and our future. It shows. I really enjoy when Fitzgerald high lights one of the citizenry. This individual usually turns out to be just an every day Joe. When done with the piece you will see that in every "Joe" there's a unique soul with a story! The Record tends to side with the left in most issues and with candidates that lean the same way. I suppose that's fine if that is your bent. I like hearing both sides of the story. read more
