The cabin was originally built as housing for the local quarry workers but has been beautifully remodeled and updated. The town itself is very laid back and is a nice change from many of the more tourist orientated towns in the Colorado mountains.

My Only complaint was that the mattress was extremely uncomfortable (...like I would of slept better camping) which kind of sucked because everything else was so great about the place. The phone service was no good but that is was is so fun and relaxing about small remote towns. It's nice to unplug. They did have WiFi that worked okay for things like checking email but not for streaming or anything like that. The shower in the bathroom was super nice but it was one of the fancy ones that doesn't have a door, it's just half glass and open the other half but when you did shower the entire bathroom and room got super humid and muggy. Hotel is dog friendly which was awesome for our pups. Also, they only take cash and check but they are super flexible!

Our room was comfortable with plenty of pillows, blankets and an electric wood-fired style heater. The backyard is on the Crystal River and we enjoyed time by the river watching the birds, listening to the river and relaxing. Breakfasts were amazing with fresh fruit, omelets, waffles, stuffed french toast, excellent coffee and an assortment of teas! Lisa, our host was accommodating and friendly but not intrusive at all. She knew so much about the area and gave suggestions to keep us busy. She knew many local business owners and helped us researched a jeep trip, made appointments for us at her onsite spa (facials and massages!!!), told us about horseback tours and tons of local hiking. There was so much to do that we will have to go back. I highly recommend a stay at this B and B. You will not regret it!

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and rented out the Teocalli King Room. The sheets and bathrobes were nice, and the stand-in shower was excellent. It was quite cozy with plenty of room, storage space, and amenities to make it as comfortable of a stay as possible. Not to mention the direct access to the hot tub was a plus, which was a great addition. The host, Chris, is a superb cook and prepares a high-quality breakfast every morning of a variety of delicacies. I'm not even a fan of eggs but his Southwestern frittata has made me a believer now. He's very attentive to allergies as well and will always do his best to accommodate. My wife has a severe gluten allergy and he was always sure to supply a substitute. The only other thing he hosted regularly was beer tastings at 5, which we were unable to attend due to our plans, but he does have a nice selection of brews stored for it. The views from the B&B are great and it's located just a short walk from Elk Ave, where you'll find all the main shops and restaurants. Even closer is the bus stop that'll take you up the mountain. Overall, I cannot recommend Purple Mountain B&B for your stay. For the price point, the amenities, and level of service you're getting, it can't be beat. Definitely staying here again when we come back some day.

We stayed in the Crested Butte room which was cozy and reasonably priced; also took the cruiser bikes for a spin around town that are provided for our use. We LOVED our stay and absolutely will return the next time we head to Crested Butte.

We made reservations for this property to return over Labor Day weekend for the JAS Music Festival. I physically went to this property looked at it, and reserved three nights. They took 50% deposit. Later that evening, I got a voicemail that they had to cancel my reservation because they oversold their property over Labor Day weekend. I called Scott, the property GM. He confirmed that they did oversell and his employee should have never made reservations for Labor Day Weekend. He offered no apologies, no discount for future stays. It was very unprofessional. They have yet to refund my 50% deposit (about $1600).

It looks like the last facelift was at least 25 years ago. The walls are paper thin so don't plan on sleeping in past 6:30 AM. Everything in Aspen is way way over priced. We knew that coming in, but we didn't expect the upkeep and maintenance to be so deferred. Aspen is the typical destination resort. Getting you once is the goal. Hoping you will come back is not. So for the reasons above I cannot recommend this property.

To be fair, my review is focused on Unit #1, the unit we rented for three nights. There were a few positives about this unit. The queen size bed was comfortable, if a bit soft. The small kitchenette was very nice and the unit was very clean and updated. There was also direct access to a lovely shared outdoor space with a gas fire and comfortable furniture right on the Crystal River. Now the bad part...there were no lamps by the bed that were bright enough to use for reading. What was there looked like it came from Great Aunt Gertrude's place when she died - 40 years ago. The TV was mounted on the wall opposite the foot of the bed and was too small to see from the bed. We tried to watch the US Tennis Open finals and couldn't even read the scores. Unfortunately, it was mounted so that the only place to watch it was from the bed. There is a very uncomfortable futon that acted as a poor excuse for the only seating in the room and there was no lighting anywhere near it for reading. In fact, the bedroom and bathroom were both very poorly lit. There was a cheap two-door shelving unit that was evidently intended to be an armoire. The owner accomplished this by adding a curtain tension rod inside for hanging clothes. Unfortunately, the rod fell any time there was more than 3 hangers on it. The bathroom was quite small, but manageable with the EXCEPTION that it had absolutely no storage for toiletries. Would it hurt the owners to hang a small shelving unit over the toilet so that there is someplace to put a toothbrush, hairbrush, and the other toiletries used by anyone traveling?? In addition, the tub was extremely slippery and there was no bath mat or grab bars to help an older visitor to get in and out of the tub/shower. That is a lawsuit in the making. The entire complex is extremely badly soundproofed - we could hear every noise from every room - and I'm sure a family of elephants was living just above us. Supplies were minimal - there was no kleenex in the room and no Saran Wrap or foil in the kitchen to help save opened food. For the price it wasn't much. We won't be back and won't recommend Crystal River Villas to others.

His tone of voice and mannerisms were incredibly disturbing and aggressive. We are not even comfortable contacting the front desk because his demeanor was so shockingly aggressive. I really hope a senior staff member sees this and can address this concern, perhaps get that man the help he is needing, as it has impacted our sense of well-being at this point.

Give yourself another 10 minutes to drive up to the castle, park, and get over to the castle. But it isn't really a castle. No moat. No drawbridge. No turrets or towers. It's just a big house. And considering I live in Boston Metrowest - I have friends who live in larger, more ornate, tackier houses. Most of the first floor of the house has been kept in "original" condition. But since the castle has been operated as a bed and breakfast or inn by previous owners, all of the bedrooms have been updated. No telling if there is any resemblance to the original. Also, most of the furniture is NOT the original stuff, so again not sure if any of the stuff is even period pieces. It is still cool to walk around. And imagine living there 100 years ago. It's really about the coal, not the castle.
