The program at the Ranch at Live Oak was fabulous. We had a wonderful group of people who were respectful of each other's journey on this retreat yet also a lot of fun. We really bonded. It was challenging, and that's just what I wanted and needed. The Ranch website and follow up emails make this very clear. Every day we hiked from 7-12 miles in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains, had a yoga class, strength training class and massage. There was ample time to take a nap by the pool and relax in the hot tub. I can't say enough good things about the massage therapists and the amazing food lead by creative and technically savvy Chef Nina. The staff has every detail taken care of, all you have to do is deal with yourself and what you want to accomplish. The 2 lunch times at the beach were a joy, I do love the ocean! I was totally unplugged from all technology which was such a wonderful feeling of freedom. I recommend The Ranch to anyone who wants to unplug, work hard and "reset their needle" in terms of how you approach YOUR health and wellness. I lost weight and inches (just as I hoped for) and am going to keep all these good habits that I reestablished. I will return probably in 2 years. It's a little pricey as an annual gig. Wish it wasn't because I would go every year. My only criticisms are that the yoga and strength training classes were inconsistent and did not take into account that we've just hiked 10 miles. The great things were: 1. morning stretching class 2. Breakfast, lunch and dinner!!!!! 3. the daily hikes, of course. 4. the massage therapists are amazing! 5. my little casita was the perfect place to retreat to 6. the swimming pool and hot tub.....they should consider a water aerobics or strength class in the pool. I'm updating my review because I was just reviewing my pictures and notes. Not only is this place amazing because of the food and scenery, but for me, it was a very cathartic experience that helped me when I was at my lowest. The fact that it was all vegan and no alcohol, no electronics, no meat or processed foods, initially scared me. But the food was amazing! But the long hikes each day brought me great peace. At one point or another throughout the week, I had an opportunity to speak with everyone including the helpers and guides. I was also able to share my troubles during those hikes with other hikers. I was able to pray a lot. I said many rosaries while I walked alone. As you walked faster or slower, you get a chance to meet everyone eventually. It was so peaceful and offered a clear mind with which to make life decisions. The yoga and massages each night were awesome! I will definitely go again some day. read more

Just unbelievable_NOT in a good way! I have no idea as to the quality of the retreat. I was unable to make it past the horrific customer service. I contacted the resort twice for information about attending a 2 week retreat. In fact, a friend and her daughter also wanted to attend. I was told twice that I would be contacted. I never heard a word. I find this to be very telling about what I could expect from the retreat. I saw a negative review on TripAdvisor about the indifference of the personnel. My experience certainly bears this out. read more

As the week progressed the instructions were out sick. The food was good. Although the trail leaders didn't listen. My husband wanted to go to the top of a hike but they decided to call him back. Never understood why. Never met the owners until last day. The guests were by and large repeat customers who were either training for a triathlon, some appearing anorexia or didn't need to lose any weight. But very nice people. Rooms sparse, no locks, don't bring valuables because safe doesn't work. Too boot, they we're redoing floors in the next cabin - noise- dust etc. I lost 4 lbs, my husband 6. read more
