This is the perfect definition of a "dive bar." That said, it's not a bad place at all. It's a VERY small place with a comfortable ambiance, if not friendly charm, with only six tables and a rectangular bar that takes up most of the space. They even jammed a pool table in there. Most of the clientele there were an older crowd and seemed to be regulars who all knew each other, and that was cool.
On the night I was there, a live band was present and it was "open mike night." Those who came up to sing did so with great enthusiasm, though lacking a thimbleful of talent. Still, all were having fun and that's the important thing.
The service was good, even though there was only one bartender/waitress to handle the packed building. While she was jumping around like a jackrabbit, she handled the huge crowd with impressive speed and skill.
They have what appears to be a fairly full menu with quite a few items. I had The Railhouse Burger and I was pleasantly surprised to find it EXCELLENT! Its *two* patties are formed from chopped sirloin, so the meat was amazing. Topped with melted cheese, special sauce, and two huge breaded onion rings, it was worth every penny... though for the price, it should also come with fries.
It's not "Cheers," but the Railhouse is certainly a place where everybody knows your name. Give 'em a try. It's not a bad spot at all. read more
