I was really disappointed with this place.
I went there after reading about it in the 'Good Food Guide'. It was listed under the Top 10 new Sydney cafes. The one star is only for the furniture which was pretty darn cool- I like the theme of using recycled bits and pieces, and even the crockery was really cute- but unfortunately this was the only good thing about the place.
When we arrived and had a seat we placed a coffee order straight away, it was the first one of the day so the most important to kick start the weekend.
The coffee itself was so incredibly bitter that it was undrinkable. I wondered if it was just the style of coffee and thought perhaps shame on me for not asking how strong it was; although my boyfriend would totally pay me out for asking questions such as those.
Anyway I decided to ask them about it, I took it up to the barista and said sorry that I didn't realise how strong it was going to be but it was actually undrinkable and would they mind even tipping half our and just refilling it with milk. I think they made me a whole new one, but I think it is something about the coffee that I just couldn't stomach. Even though I had now received a weak one, it was still so bitter that I just couldn't finish it. Strike One.
Now my guest and I were having a good old catch up so the time went quickly, but after a while when our stomach's were grumbling we checked the time and realised we had been waiting at least 40mins and the tables that sat after us had their food. Strike Two. If you have to wait more than half an hour for breakfast - you should be told. We then got taunted by breakfast being brought to us that was actually going to a different table. Anyway it wasn't long after that when the food finally arrived. And man my friends will tell you I am happy to stand in lines and wait for things, but man 45 mins for breakfast is a bit much- especially with no warning.
So the meals arrived, we both got a mix of poached eggs with add-ons. I tried to get something healthier; poached eggs, mushrooms, salmon & avocado. Everything was sitting in oil. The mushrooms, although they were described as 'garliky' on the menu, probably should have said something more like 'sitting in a cup of olive oil with a lil bit of garlic' .... And this just took over the whole breakfast, it meant the healthy add-ons I got all became oily. Both myself and my friend left thinking how heavy and gross we felt which really didn't give us the right oomph to get the day going.
Oh well you win some you lose some- but I will not be returning. read more
