Driving back to Auckland after the Christmas break we stopped in here for some lunch. The place was heaving with people which we took as a good sign.
Once we finally made it to the counter we ordered the grilled beef burger and the Rueban Sandwich. For drinks it was a trim latte and a chocolate thickshake.
The coffee was good, hot and not bitter. The thickshake was poor. There was only a hint of chocolate flavour and it had a strange aftertaste. We couldn't put our finger on what exactly was wrong with it, it just didn't taste right.
Onto the food! The burger was terrible, and my partner had to give up on eating it. It was very soggy, like it had been made and left for a while and all the Beetroot juices made the bottom of the bun really soft. It fell apart when you tried to pick it up. The pattie itself was over cooked and bland. The Rueban Sandwich was better. The bread was fresh. I did however think there was way too much mustard on it. I had to scrape a lot of it off. The salad which accompanied it was very tasty. The salad was crisp and the dressing light.
I feel like we probably should have ordered from the cabinet as most people were doing. The display was done really well, and the selection of desserts looked delicious.
It may have been how busy this place was which affected the quality of the food. We were here for nearly too hours due to the length of time it took to get served and get the food. Probably best to avoid if it is super busy. read more
